I really don't mind the media being critical of the Patriots if they are playing badly, as long as their criticism is based on football.

But here is summary of what the media were saying and writing after the KC game. And this was the national media, with many of the local media acting like sharks with red meat in the water as they beat these subjects to death.
1. Brady is in decline
2. BB has never given Brady weapons to work with
3. BB and Brady are not getting along
4. The Patriots are looking to trade Brady
5. The Patriots are cheap and care only about $, and not winning.

These are a few things that I remember off the top of my head. There were also some "fans" that bought into all of the above hook line and sinker.

I'd like to see if those in the media will admit they were wrong, way over the top, and perhaps had an personal agenda. Please post any of any of those admissions on this thread. I have a feeling there won't be any but just in case. They will act as if they never said or wrote the things that they did, standard operating procedure fro them.

My favorite, from that sage Trent Dilfer:

"Let's face it, the Patriots just aren't good any more"

Don't hold your breath. People in the media 1) are there for a reason, to give their 'hot takes' and make outlandish claims that cause controversy at the water cooler, and 2) are there for a reason, they're not good enough/qualified enough to play the sport or coach the sport. They're dumb, they show it week after week, year after year. Remember Tom Jackson's 'the Patriots have quit on Bill Belichick' moment after Milloy was traded?

Don't listen to them, they're dumb and they're only drumming up controversy. Oh, and as I say that I'd also like to point out that many here were talking about the decline of Brady, there were chicken littles all over the place after the KC game. At some point the decline will come, at some point Brady won't be his usual GOAT self...that time is not now. This team is as good as anyone in the NFL, just need to hope they can perform down the stretch because a rematch at Gillette would be infinitely more winnable than going to Denver.

I'm just waiting for the "analysis" of the Broncos post-last night to equal what was said about the Pats and Brady after KC. Well, wouldn't say I'm actually waiting ...

If you're under water while waiting, you'd better have a snorkel. Media members love to see and portray themselves as the courageous souls holding teams, players and coaches "accountable." Correspondingly, any attempt by anyone to hold them accountable is met with disdain and contempt and a "how dare you" reaction.

Media has lost their credibility a long while back, not just sports but in every aspect. Everything needs to be a drama, intrigue and its all about the ratings. true journalism is long dead !

so forget the media, enjoy the hate.. also enjoy the Reddit game day threads if you can. man its pure gold !

That reddit thread posted last week was gold.

Of all the mediots out there Felger is the one that I despise the most. When it was Pats vs. Indy he talked about how much more money Indy spent on 'weapons', how they spent big to keep their best players. Well Indy had to tank and luck in to, well, Luck to get over a down period, the Pats never had that luxury. Then it was the Jets (LOL...how's that one working out?). They traded up for the guys they wanted, they were aggressive in the draft...and it bit them squarely in the ass, Sanchez is gone and they have zero depth because of that strategy. Then it was the Niners, who are looking more and more like an average team. Now it's the Broncos, bringing in all these weapons and aggressively trying to 'win now' (he loves that phrase, as though the Pats are just trying to field a 53-man roster and see what happens)...well the Pats just smoked the Broncos and their line doesn't seem to be missing Mankins (nevermind the long-term implications of that trade, it's looking like a clear win even in year one), they've made smart depth trades and look like another #1/2 seed come January. Wash rinse repeat, but that's boring and doesn't get ratings.

Whatever...I obviously listen to him (more out of hate than anything) so he's doing his job. But his 'hot takes' have proven to be hot turds over and over again.

To his credit, Dilfer did do a mea culpa yesterday and sorta say he was wrong. He spun it that he was right at the time, but the Pats are vastly improved. But he did more than most media members will do.

That is the great thing about being a talking head on TV. You can make definitive statements one week and be proven wrong the next and never have to take any accountability for it.

Did you hear the reporter ask:

"Coach Fox, do you expect that the quarterback position will be evaluated this week?"

me neither.

Manning's stats in this game were much much better than Brady's in the KC game. But I get what you're saying.

For all the hype last week you'd think that the number one topic of conversation with the national media (BSPN) would have been this game, this morning. But no it was the steelers ravens and rothlessrapers six td's. I kept flicking through the channels and not that much was said relative to the ammount of hype the game got last week. Now if Statman and the donks won the game i doubt that would have been the case. So, so far they seem to be avoiding talking about the game, at least early this morning.

Watching SC early this am in the gym and they highlighted the show with a long piece about some young female basketball player. Didn't see anything about the Brady/Manning showdown.

Steve Young this AM praised brady that he works with players who he has never heard of. Didnt offer any mea culpa for the irresponsible rant that MNF.
Problem with Dilfer was not killing the pats performance. But he went overboard insinuating that the pats only want to fill seats in stadium and not committed to winning. That was outright stupid thing to say.

I like the Dan Marino strategy better. When commenting on a game between teams A and B, he'll pick A in their market and B in their market.

That's from Trent "where's my play book?" Dilfer.

This represents a return to classic form for the Patriots. The big media are drawn to the glitz of the individual. "Big Ben this" "Peyton that." They're not equipped to communicate complex happenings like what the Patriots did last night. There wasn't just one showcase headliner. Brady was great; Edelman; Gronk; the defense on third downs; special teams. (I don't usually watch the network pregames but I got the final minutes of CBS's yesterday. They were talking about how excited about this game and I think it was Bart Scott who actually mentioned special teams. The others were incredulous — "Really? Excited about special teams?" Very telling.) Like BB said last night — this isn't fantasy football. It's vintage Pats football.

That segment's file was saved under the "Play if Manning chokes" folder.

There's no accountability in the media. The standards are so low. The average intelligence of the people in the field is average to low, and it's largely self-policed, so errors go unnoticed. Add in sports, it gets even worse.

So, no, no one in the media will be taking back their comments. It'd be like asking if McDonald's is going to apologize for their meat quality on a Big Mac you ate last week.
