He plays for a classless team and he himself is a jerk

Hate this guy but he hit him in the waist.

Typical Raven thuggery.

Baltimore might as well be a prison team

Come playoff time that might be their only choice. That loss put them in last place in their division at the halfway mark. That isn't such a bad thing for the Pats, as the Ravens have given us more playoff trouble than any other AFC team.

I don't see anything but a good, legal hit on a ball carrier who is still trying to move the ball.

Not to be whiny but I didn't appreciate the TJ Ford dive at Gronk's knees last night.

Part of me wishes that they would outlaw shots to the knees...

Ward dove at someone else's knees prior to that as well. Some guys are just assholes...

He didn't hit him on the knee though? It actually looks horrendous in real time but I don't think it looks as bad when you slow it down.

I'm fed up of the whining about low shots. In the case of Gronkowski; If I was 200 lbs and I was going to tackle a 270 lbs Gronkowski, I'd go low. Is it because I am a dirty player? Nope. I'm just smart and I know I'm not winning that battle tackling him around the waist.

It's coached in to players.

Best way to get Gronk down is to chop him down at the knees. Hit him anywhere else and you're going for a ride on the tilt a whirl. Sucks but can't fault ward for the strategy.

Edit the play you're talking about was devlin. He really did launch himself at the knees, but again, it got a much larger man down on the ground immediately in a legal manner

As someone who grew up near baltimore, that city has changed and the Raven are the new identity of the city- just as the Colts were once the identity of the city. The Colts identity was one of blue collar, hard work and some honor. The Ravens do have the identity of a gangster and the town has taken that on. The loss of the Colts was not just a loss of a football team, it was the passing of a era in Baltimore. The irony is that the Irsays were the biggest gangsters and thugs.

For those saying it wasn't dirty, why was it given a 15 yard penalty?

Also, I know in rugby we were tought to wrap people at the knees. OTOH, it does seem dirty to aim a helmet at the knees. Spearing a knee with a helmet is dirty as hell, but hitting/wrapping at the knees is a tried-and-true way to bring someone down who is huge. Don't recall which Ward did last night, frankly. Anyone have a gif? Maybe start a thread so we can pick at it. :) In Rugby you would never try to spear someone with your "helmet" (i.e., skull).

It looks horrendous in real time and in slow motion. If Gronk doesnt pick up his right leg off the turf its over.

Be fed up all you want. It's a different day and age now. The league wants to see passing and points- not helmet hits on knees by irrelevant defensive backs.

In the case of Gronkowski; If I was 200 lbs and I was going to tackle a 270 lbs Gronkowski, I'd go low. Is it because I am a dirty player? Nope.

Pretty damn close. He led with the helmet to the knee. He could deliver a big hit with his shoulder pad to hip or upper thigh.

I'm just smart and I know I'm not winning that battle tackling him around the waist.

Rubbish. With the proper leverage, you can explode into ball carriers by getting your pads below the waist.

It's coached in to players.

Then they are being coached improperly and with intent to injure.

Can't hit high. Can't hit low. Why don't we just make it flag football while we're at it?

That was garbage. Good thing Blount wasn't hurt.

Thank you so much. I loved Blount's dance. More importantly, your little video proved to me that a certain #17 for the Patriots DID exist. (eye roll).

Correct. A defensive player cannot use his helmet as a weapon to tackle a ball carrier that he has lined up.

Its a good question. Unless I've misunderstood the rule, technically it falls under the crown of the helmet rule. Ward lined up Gronk and led with the crown of his helmet.

That hit really doesn't look dirty to me. He led with his shoulder into his waist.

Was the penalty for a high/low hit? It looks like Blount was already engaged by 51 around the shoulders. Suggs went low.

There is no such penalty For tackling, only blocking
