We need a RB

People refuse to put statistics in context. Nobody is going to keep running the ball against Peyton Manning, because you need quick points to even compete.

Unless you possess an Offense equally awesome.

Of course it's a combination, but a decent runner needs to make something out of a hole, not just get the minimum and go down with an arm tackle.
It was taking more than an "arm tackle" to bring Gray down. Go back and re-watch the game.

How do you think Denver feels...sheesh, Hillman had 10 carries for 16 yards...against one of the bottom-of-the-barrel run defenses in the NFL.
When you are 2"" smaller and 15 lbs lighter, than Vereen what would you realistically expect.

Aside from the PR mills run rife in the Rockies, where the thin air affects mental aquity.

And you need to realize that even when the Broncos aren't up 2-3 TDs, teams aren't getting a lot of yards rushing on them. Terence Knighton, Demarcus Ware, Von Miller, Derek Wolfe and Menelik Jackson are extremely stout. You are down-playing how good that group is.

If total yards was your only metric, I would wholly concur, but Denver went into that game 5th in defensive ypc at 3.5 and 3rd in rush defense DVOA.

I like what I've seen from Gray. To me he looks NFL caliber with the potential to even be a viable - albeit average - starter.

Way too early to make that call. Gray ran vs the toughest run D in the NFL.

Way to early to call on Gray. I would have liked to see Blount stay, but there were many here criticizing his play early on. He may have ended up with 5 ypc last year, but his first games were 2.1 and 2.8 ypc. Some times it's the player and other times it's the blocking and/or quality of opponent.

If BB saw a better free agent option for this system, then he would have added that player after Ridley went down. I liked what I saw from Gray against the Bears, and am not inclined to dump the guy after lower numbers against a good run defense.

jeezus krist....look, Jonas Gray ran hard today. He took VICIOUS hits with Broncos defenders ripping at the ball. He MAINTAINED possession every time. He busted an 8 yard run in the 4th quarter that broke Denver's back. In essence, he did what the team asked of him and the Pats WON 43 -21? How do you people NOT see this? Denver is number one at plugging the A and B gaps, their LB's are stellar at run defense...and until they got ripped apart by Brady today, they were upper echelon pass defense too. Gray provided the threat of a running game that opened the game up for their passing attack. I see other rookie running backs with high draft slots come in to games like this and STB, put the ball on the ground and put their teams in positions to LOSE the game. Gray is playing over Bolden because he has EARNED IT. Stop with this idiotic "grass is greener" syndrome BS.

Finally a voice of reason. Was this thread started by Squeaky Macaroni of 98.5 the sports hub?

I may have been engaging in hyperbole, but he's supposed to be a downhill runner. When he gets a crease, he doesn't break tackles. It's not that he's bad, he's a mediocre power back.

If you're saying i don't think that group is the best in the league against the run, you're right. They are the best statistically, because peyton puts up so many points.

Would adding Corey Dillon or John Riggins or Jim Brown help this offense at this point? No one will dispute that.

Does the team "need" it at this point? Time will tell. But with Gray very early in his learning curve, and the short, medium, long, and inside/outside passing game working so well, it doesn't seem to be essential.

This has already been refuted; points only impact total yardage. Denver also came into the league as one of the best on a per-play basis as well, which is the exact opposite of what you would see if it was simply scoring related.

Gray is a fringe NFL player, but so is anyone they would replace him with. At least he's young and knows the system.

FYI, Blout rushed 5 times for a whopping total of 6 yards in the AFC championship vs. Denver.

The key point there is 5 times. With that said, again, I don't think the Pats need another RB but if the Pats had Blount back on the team, I think it would be a good thing.
