Simmons nails it!

I remember when I used to like Simmons. Probably before I ever heard his voice.
I loved the guy until I saw what a key board athlete looks and sounds like.

I liked him when he called Goodell a liar... other than that he is just another mediot.

I think it was Adam Carolla that pointed out that he is no longer from Boston. He has lived longer in L.A. than in Boston.

Technically, so have I. It shows up in certain things, for sure. I'm not a Bostonian in any real sense... except sports fandom. If you've grown up a Boston fan, you can live somewhere else for 50 years and that's not going to change.

Good to know. With Ian moved to FL and Miami winning today, I was starting to worry.

Simmons is an embarrassment to every rational Patriots fan. It pains me that he is considered by most national readers to be representative of how Pats fans think.

He's made many veiled (for him, not particularly veiled really) references to never meeting your sports heroes. Considering how chummy he is with Doc and Larry Bird, I'm pretty sure he's not talking about basketball (unless it turns out that Pierce was a jerk to him or something). He seems to pretty much idolize Papi as well, so my guess has always been that he's primarily referring to Belichick when he says that. While he's a Patriots fan, I think he genuinely dislikes Belichick, and that bias informs what he writes re: the Patriots at least as much as his fandom does.

Simmons is no different than a lot of other mainstream sports fans and sports media in that he believes in stars. Just look at his favorite sports: basketball and, to a lesser degree, baseball. In that world view, you win by surrounding your stars with other stars. That's the antithesis of Belichicks approach so his focus on Brady and dislike of Belichick is not surprising at all.

"Yeah, Manning leads on every scorecard. For now. Just make sure you don’t count out the little brother with three sisters yet."

What?

Their career statistical averages-per-season are nearly identical and Brady's post-season/head-to-head success is the ultimate tiebreaker.

Simmons' analysis of the Pats has been pretty poor for a while now. I remember a month into the season last year he wrote "I have to accept the Patriots are no longer a good team". In comparison, he makes Felger seem like a homer.

Is 4 MVPs nearly identical to 2 MVPs?

MVP is an award given by writers, not a statistic. Brett Favre is tied second with most MVPs (3) in NFL history.

For a more accurate comparison, take Brady's best 4 years vs. Manning's best 4 years.

The one thing about Brady is that he lives for big games. Question him. Give him no shot. Tell him is is over the hill. And he will punch you square in the mouth.

Next year, when the Pats lose a game. Remember this game. Remember who the QB is.

I think he's more saying in the court of public opinion, due to lead in volume stats, manning has the lead.

News alert: every team starts over every year.

Facts remain though and I don't care how you change the personnel ....... Spot the damn Faulk catch properly and we win. Give me a healthy Gronkowski for a Super Bowl or two and we win at least one. Let Welker make the catch he makes 9/10 times and we win the other anyway.

Screw it------ Were on to 2014 / 2015 in that horrible desert in Az, the one I swore I'd never go back too, only this time, we finish the job.
Where as I predicted the Pats will meet the only team to ever have HFA in the Super Bowl. It will be "The Redemption in the Desert" with meaning for both squads. The Pats lost to the underdog Giants; and the Cards were shafted in the last seconds of their SB, too.

They will play at the only football Stadium named for a College that has no Football team...

I have no intention of doing the leg work, but I'd love to see the statistical breakdown of Brady v. Manning for every NFL venue. Brady's got better numbers in domes. Brady's got better numbers in bad weather. Brady's the better postseason player, even in the "last 10 years", which has somehow become the latest pro-Manning argument. I'd like to see if that sort of trend holds up to a stadium-by-stadium, team-by-team type of analysis, or if Manning's numbers win out in the middle area(s).

as love letters to TB go, I enjoyed it
