“Tom, how frustrating is it for you to start over every single year?

Has Manning ever had to start over....other than 2012?

Facts remain though and I don't care how you change the personnel ....... Spot the damn Faulk catch properly and we win. Give me a healthy Gronkowski for a Super Bowl or two and we win at least one. Let Welker make the catch he makes 9/10 times and we win the other anyway.

Screw it------ Were on to 2014 / 2015 in that horrible desert in Az, the one I swore I'd never go back too, only this time, we finish the job.

Nice article.

Or....BB could have made sure Brady had someone else on the roster other than a short / slow WR when you throw more than 15 yards downfield

Didn't Simmons say Brady doesn't belong on Boston sports' mount rushmore?

Simmons wrote that Manning over Brady in 2012-2013.

I rate 2012-2013 as Brady's best regular season. Take rushing TDs into account, 26 with 4 for Brady. And the 3rd highest scoring offense of all time.

People have rewritten the last 3 years and have forgotten how good the Patriots were.

The Pats had basically the same receiving corp from 2003-2005 and then from 2007-early 2010. This whole starting over every year is ridiculous. If Hernandez wasn't a murderous scumbag and Gronk didn't hit a bad string of injuries, the offense last year and this year probably wouldn't have been radically different than 2011 and 2012 other than the loss of Welker who was replaced by Edelman.

Give me his 2010 season. IMO, I think that is the greatest regular season performance by a QB ever in the NFL. Honestly, I dont think its even t close to any other. I dont remember all the particulars, but some of the things Brady accomplished that year, and against the level of teams/defenses he faced is truly mind blowing. We all know the stats from that year and the records he set. But a few other factors:

Faced 7 playoff teams
He faced something like 7 out of the top 10 defenses
He faced 7 out of the top 6 passing defenses (faced # 6 overall twice)
Lost his #1 WR (moss) after week 3.
Best o lineman (mankins) sat out half the season in contract dispute.
Two rookie TE's (Gronk and Ahern)
Undrafted starting RB (lawfirm)
No strong #2 WR (Welker being a slot)
Welker coming of major off season knee surgury and was not up to 100%

And his accomplishments that year:

  • Named an AFC Pro Bowl starter and was the top vote getter in fan voting
  • Became the first player ever to be unanimously selected as the Associated Press Most Valuable Player
  • Named Associated Press All-Pro (unanimous selection)and Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year.
  • Was first in the NFL with a 7.3 touchdown percentage, a 9.0 touchdown-to-interception ratio and a career-low and franchise-best 0.81 interception rate, which was also the third best in NFL history and best in NFL history among quarterbacks who had at least 250 pass attempts.
  • Finished the regular season with 11 consecutive starts without an interception - the most by a quarterback since the 1970 merger. Also set an NFL record for most consecutive pass attempts without an interception, which currently sits at 335 pass attempts
  • Threw a touchdown pass in all 16 games of the regular season for the first time in his career, joining five other quarterbacks since the NFL went to a 16-game season in 1978 to have at least one touchdown pass in each game
  • Had two or more touchdowns in 12 games,
  • Started all 16 games finishing the season with 3,900 passing yards, an NFL-leading 36 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

Nice article, though I take exception to the idea that Manning has had the upper hand in the rivalry at any point. No doubt, some could say, justifiably, that he's got the upper hand, having won in the AFCCG and having the "better team", but in the grand scheme of things....

10-5

I remember when I used to like Simmons. Probably before I ever heard his voice.

Simmons is an embarrassment to every rational Patriots fan. It pains me that he is considered by most national readers to be representative of how Pats fans think.
I wish I could agree with that a billion times.

I agree on TBs 2010 as his greatest. However, I think statistically speaking, the 2012 offense was the most proficient in NFL history.

Who is this Nerdborg of whom you all speak?

What a bunch of flotsam and jetsam. Wouldn't be allowed as a junior high essay. you could pick any quote tyou wanted out of that mess, it zigzagz and self contradicts.

I guess He doesn't know the Broncos first choice was Lafell and he turned them down to come to the Pats, makes me question how much of that article are his assumptions and not facts.

Simmons is 99% opinion and assumption, 1% facts and even that 1% is generous.

Football is a sport that requires the active participation of at least 60 players. Then they have to work in harmony, like a symphony, while they are hammering and getting hammered. It's not basketball, Bill; you don't give Lebron two supporting stars and call it a season.

I like Simmons ... but the piece must be read knowing he's a bit biased to the Patriots.
