I would cut the bum and utilize the salary cap savings to re-sign Shane Vereen.

http://overthecap.com/player/danny-amendola/402/

That bum singlehandedly won us the Jets game a couple of weeks back. A game most of the team were bums in since we should have killed them. So, while his contract is not matching his performance numbers wise, the guy has talent. He could do that in another game.

And BTW he costs more to cut than keep right now.

I thought dola did better than many gave him credit for last year, but outside of the catch in the Jets game he's been disappointing this year

Yeah, that crucial PI call, the 2 great returns and recovering that onside kick which sealed the win was disappointing.

LOL

Kenbrell Thompkins singlehandedly beat the Saints last year! Oh yeah, Kenbrell Thompkins is no longer on the New England Patriots roster.

Who ever stated to cut Amendola this season, since Shane Vereen is currently under contract?

Don't get me wrong I like what I see from him as a KR, but he isn't living up to his potential that he showed last season. I like Danny as a player.

Someone is a bum then because they are not on the team? Or they are a bum because they are not up to your standards? Or they are a bum because they are getting paid to much? Not sure here...

DA is a disappointment. How is he a bum though? Maybe the bum is the guy who paid him? Or maybe the FO likes what he is doing on the field.

He is probably not coming back next year so stating "cut the bum" seemed unnecessary, to me anyway.

He's paid so much because BB was desperate to sign someone to replace Welker at the time. Danny is good. They should sit Edelman awhile for his drops and Danny will take up the slack.

Amendola since his groin injury looks closer to the 4.7-4.8 forty guy ... his high time was 4.7's in college ... watching him play WR lately he cannot outrun some linebackers ... so unless he's in the slot what good is he except as a KR/PR? If he had size he could still run with those times but he doesn't .. he's a choad.

Okay guys, we get it.

Amendola isn't worth what he's earning and you can continue to harp on it for the next 3 months.

Or...you can get over it.

He's on the roster, he's working hard every day, he's trying to contribute. It's time for the fans to show him some support and make him feel welcome because he sure doesn't seem to be going anywhere for the next few months.

Yes, it may have been a mistake. Yes, we can continue to go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about it. But I'm sure what might actually be meaningful is for those who show up at the games to actually show him some love and root for him.

Hating on him all the time isn't going to make things better. He's not going to start feeling guilty and retire. So let's start giving him some support and hope it makes a difference on game days.

What's your definition of a choad? Because if it's a fool or a jerk, as defined by lots of people, you're wrong.

Amendola is being overpaid. He likely won't get as much next year from us or from anyone.

However, the reality is that Amendola is an asset. He is our #3 WR and he returns kicks. He also blocks.

Amendola works hard and is higher on the depth chart than Tyms or Dobson.

We should be rooting for Amendola to continue to be the best he can, and to be a contributor as the #3 WR (our #6 receiving target).

Unfortunately, many here would rather focus in on the fact that a player is underachieving, as opposed to the fact that we've drastically improved our receiving options upon last season.

Yes, he's being overpaid--but it's also a great thing that he went from our #2 leading receiver to our 6th receiving option. As we've all discussed since the end of last season, he isn't going to be here on that salary next year anyway, so the continued *****fest really gets us nowhere.

It sucks that Amendola hasn't lived up to his hype though.

To me it's pretty simple. He has under performed since he got here. If he was only making $3,000,000 per year, he's under performed. And Knowing BB and how he looks for and expects value, it would be very surprising if DA was still here in 2015, based on his high cost combined with a lack of production.
That said, he's here now and I'd like to see him utilized for the rest of the season, in one capacity or another. Having him return kicks is a great idea and a really smart way of getting him into the flow of games, where he can produce.
Pro football is a funny yet brutal game, where injuries often come in bunches and having him on the team right now, this season, even without his expected production, has some real value. While some fans are barking at the moon over how overpaid he's been (and he has been overpaid when one looks at his production to date) it is not out of the realm of possibility that he could pull another couple of "Jets games" out of his hat before this season is done. Maybe one of these "Jets games" gets us an extra home game in the playoffs? Or home field advantage? Maybe he catches the winning TD in a playoff game? None of these scenarios is particularly far fetched.
It's a long hard season filled with unexpected twists and turns and right now he's pretty good WR insurance against injury. I'll take that!

Well put Belize. The kid's still got burner speed. If he was an UDRFA everyone here would be cheering for him to succeed. Because he came here as a FA for a good chunk of change many here root against him. If he can help us win in the end, who really gives a rats ass what he gets paid?

Dec. 15 '04 McWild. Your old school like me. :D

LOL .... it's not either one of those.

One of the best comments of this thread.
For whatever their ultimate reasoning BB/JM/coaching staff believe DA provides something worthy enough to have him on the field frequently. Whether you agree with BB/JM, whether you believe it is a bad or good decision, the reality is DA will continue to be on the field frequently. So why not hope to see him play the best that he can in what role he is able to?? I guarantee you it is better than being intent on seeing DA fail (as a certain smalls sect of Patriot fans seem bent on)..

As MG stated, DA will be taking a pay cut at the end of this season. It is fact, next year he will either be making a lot less money as a member of the Patriots or as a member of another team. Those that need it can then be satisfied DA got what he deserved (pound of flesh along with it). Until then, again, let's pull for DA to produce in both the STs role as well as the receiving role. Remember, DA put it way out their, way way out their in that Buffalo game last year. That game clearly demonstrated he wasn't there to just collect a paycheck, he was there to see the team succeed at just about any cost.

I agree, mostly.

Should point out, though, that Amendola's line would be 11 catches on 19 targets for 112 yards if not for the ridiculous penalties. I've never seen anything like it.

That's a 58% catch rate, and 10+ YPC, which is more like it...

But still, YES, way below what he needs to do to earn that salary.
Honestly, I think he was only open because LaFell (x3) and Dobson picked off his man, 2 of the 4 calls were legit as the DB was leveled, the other 2 could have went either way, but they cannot be calculated into his performance, because penalties are part of the game and impact every player.

I think Amendola is a luxury for this team right now, nothing more, you see the team moving towards the 2 TE more and more, focusing on LaFell on the outside, as Brady gets older having bigger targets benefits him because the catch radius is so much bigger. I even see them moving the game plan away from Edelman, so given Edelman is cheaper, younger, and more productive he will likely be the only player in that role next season with Boyce as the backup.
