2015 Draft Prospect Thread

Anyone get a chance to watch the Louisville/FSU game last night? First look I've gotten at DaVonte Parker - WR - Louisville - 6'3" 209. CBS has him at 72 overall. Very impressed. 8 rec 214 yds. He did get away with one obvious push-off when they went down 28-24. But, it did ignite the go-ahead touchdown drive. Some horrific defensive play by Louisville let Noles come back. Noles have a decent secondary. Headed by Ronald Darby - CB who is 47 overall. Looked like a man against boys. That big outside the numbers type of wr to pair with LaFell. Would be hard to pass late in 2nd.

I personally still want to go DL-OL with the first 2 picks. But Parker has a nice skill set. With the return of more TE sets and less 3-WR sets and the emergence of Brandon LaFell, I think we are 1 WR away. There's still time for Danny Amendola or Aaron Dobson to seize that role, but the odds are going down quickly on both. If neither steps up, finding that 3rd WR is definitely one of the tasks for 2015.

I agree in terms of need. But, I don't think there is that big of a difference in the type of guard who will be available late 2nd as opposed to late 3rd. While, there seems to be some pretty good wr's who have been going in Round 2; Nelson, Cobb, T. Smith, J. Gordon(Supple),Jeffrey, D. Jackson. Some late 2nd's and early 3rd's very recently; Keenan Allen, Allen Robinson and Terence Williams look good. Most colleges are using 3 wr sets and throwing the ball. The better high school athletes are gravitating to wr now. It's kind of mind-boggling how poor we are at identifying them. Deion Branch and Givens were drafted 12 years ago. While Edelman was a great pick. He was a qb in college.

Like you, Scherff on a move up is my top preference. Don't see it though. With the number of de's available. Some decent ones fall into the 20's.

I agree on DE in the 1st. Parker is up to #42 in NFL DraftScout's latest rankings, BTW - not that it means much, especially this early. Though that was BEFORE his big night against FSU.

Some rankings of interest:

7. Shawn Oakman, DE, Baylor
8. Brandon Scherff, OL, Iowa
10. Shaq Thompson, OLB, Washington
11. Shane Ray, DE/OLB, Missouri
19. Shilique Calhoun, DE/OLB, Michigan St.
21. Dante Fowler, DE/OLB, Florida
23. Bernardrick McKinney, LB, Mississippi St.
25. Bud Dupree, DE/OLB, Kentucky
36. Arik Armstead, DT/DE, Oregon
39. Lorenzo Mauldin, DE/OLB, Louisville
42. Devante Parker, WR, Louisville
54. Cam Eving, OL, Florida St.
55. Josue Matias, OG, Florida St.
67. Jay Ajayi, RB, Boise St.
70. Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana
86. Hauoli Kikaha, DE/OLB, Washington
88. TJ Clemmings, OL, Pittsburgh
94. Eric Kendricks, LB, UCLA
95. Jaquiski Tartt, S, Stamford

I'd be thrilled to get a DE in the 1st, TJ Clemmings, a RB or WR or another OL, and Jaquiski Tartt.

I'm right there with you on Parker. Hopefully he won't climb into the first round. Similar to what Mayo says, I want our 1st spent on the best DT we can get.

FSU TE Nick O'Leary continues to impress me. I'd love to add him to our TE depth chart. But not if he's gonna cost a 1st round pick, which I think he might by next spring.

Another guy who intrigued me was Louisville RB Michael Dyer. I like those short, stocky RBs. They tend to have great balance and low center of gravity and can also hide behind to the OL until they explode through the hole. And I think we're gonna be in the market for at least one RB next spring.

A few years back Michael Dyer was one of the top recruits in the country. Started at Auburn. So, there's some talent there for sure. Another highly rated former elite recruit to keep an eye on is Keith Marshall - Georgia.Came in with Todd Gurley and played well as a frosh. Has had some injury issues since and hasn't had a chance to shine. UGA brought two more great frosh this year in Chubb and Michael. He might as well declare and get on with his pro career.

Josh Robinson gets my vote.

There's plenty of discussion, on Twitter at least, that Parker isthe best or second best WR in the class. I think his relatively low ranking is an outcome of being injured for the first half of the season. Cooper-Funchess-Parker-White make for a very nice first round receiving class.

Agreed. Last year's class was exceptional, but that would be a very respectable group. Not that I would personally take any in the 1st, of course. :p

Seems to be a good year for skill position players. Which is good news for teams looking to build up the trenches. Should be 3-4 qb's in addition to the wr's you mentioned; Winston, Mariota, Hundley and Cook. A couple of backs like Gurley and Gordo. Quite a few db's.

Cook has said he's returning for his senior year.

Here's a bit of deja vu for you.

Last year Kevin Pierre-Louis was a favourite for some on this board, particularly me, and ended up being drafted by the Seahawks. well bizarrely, there's potentially another "KPL" this year at Colorado State. That's right, their safety is also called Kevin Pierre-Louis and is eligible as a RS Jnr. He's got fantastic size at 6.1 and approx 215lbs but looks like he might struggle in coverage. But for those of you who like hard hitting safeties, you might enjoy this video.

Every year we get all jacked up about potential pass rushers and almost every year bb passes on them.

Is this the year he takes one?

It's such a potentially strong class that it will be hard not too in the first two days.

And yet during Linebackerpalooza in 2006 (9 went in the first 40 picks), Belichick looked at it and said "Meh."

Getting my first real good look at TJ Clemmings. He is not going to be there for us in the 2nd round and I'm not convinced he'll be there for us in the first round. In fact, I'm starting to think we might have a better shot at Scherff than Clemmings. Clemmings is very good in space, a dominating run blocker and he's an outstanding physical specimen. Scherff is the finished product but Clemmings has so much upside. I really can see him climbing into the top half of the first round. The one note of caution is that he's going up against Duke so there is a competition level question.

That's always been the elephant in the room, as it is with so many prospects that we identify early on. I was on the Dontari Poe bandwagon in October 2011; by the time the Combine was over he was a legend, and went #11 overall. You led the Ziggy Ansah charge in 2012; he ended up going top 5. Kyle Long (#20 overall) is another guy identified on this board when he wasn't even ranked as a draftable prospect.

Clemmings and Dupree could both be fast risers and go top 20, easily. If so, someone else will slip. I've always felt that Brandon Scherff would potentially slip a bit in the pre-draft evaluation phase because he doesn't have elite measurables. We'll see. I'm happy with a list of guys who I would want, and Clemings and Dupree (like Scherff and Oakman) are high on that list. There's a lot of time between now and the draft, and I'm fairly comfortable that we'll come away with a couple of solid linemen.
