He actually addressed that. Said for flexibility. They have a lot of talent they need give contracts to, and don't want to be tied into a corner which he says is the worst situation to be in.

Can't wait for that cap space to be spent on a Geno extension.

They are scheduled to be about $50 million under the cap with probably only Mohammed Wilkerson needing a contract in the near future. It isn't like the Pats who have less cap space in 2015 and several key players who need contracts like McCourty, Revis, Vereen, and others.

Wondering if as Patriots fans hopes that Rex is fired, as it may help the cause of keeping Revis?

Francesa is carving Idzik up like a Thanksgiving turkey.

Sadly that can't happen until the start of the 2016 league year.

Francesa's post conference rant was must-hear radio. I can't recommend it strongly enough.

Errr, one of those wins would be against the Pats no?

Yikes! Good catch. OK, they should win every game but the Pats game.

And now the JEST fans are turning on Idzik. :D

The Chargers have apparently cut Richard Marshall. The Jets are desperate for CBs....

I think only the jest would pick someone with NO actual football knowledge/experience to run the franchise. May it continue

So a press conference to say that he is a Rex Ryan supporter

Full steam ahead green beans.............

Fortunately for Marshall, the Chargers released him before the trade deadline, so he doesn't have to go through waivers.

In case anyone missed it, this is well worth repeating...

Don't forget that the QB rating imposes floors and ceilings—you can't get below a 0.0 rating.

If you remove the ceilings and floors, here's exactly how bad Geno's day was:

COMPLETIONS: (2/8 - 0.3) * 5 = –0.25
YARDS: (5/8 - 3) * 0.25 = –0.59375
TD's: (0/8) * 20 = 0
INT's: 2.375 - (3/8 * 25) = –7

Summing all of those up, dividing by 6 and multiplying by 100 to get a QB rating, we have a scintillating

(–0.25 + –0.59375 + 0 + –7) * 100/6 = –130.8

In comparison, in the 59-0 blowout against the Titans back in 2009, Vince Young and Kerry Collins would have put up combined only about –50. So yeah, you could say Geno had a rough day at the office. :D

... so I'll repeat it:

When you remove the floor that creates a minimum of 0.0,

Geno Smith had a passer rating of negative -130.8 yesterday.

Has an NFL Quarterback Ever Had A Worse Quarter Than This?

- Of Smith’s eight pass attempts in the game, two went to his team, three went to no one, and three went to the Bills. To put that in perspective: If the Jets and Bills had randomly switched uniforms for the day and not told the second-year quarterback, he might have had a better day than he actually did.

- Smith was on the field for just 11 snaps, encompassing four possessions, and the best drive was the first one — because at least the Jets got to punt the ball after going three-and-out instead of turning it over.

- When he was pulled, Geno was on pace to throw at least 17 interceptions in the game. The way Smith’s day was going, Rex Ryan benching him for Michael Vick should probably be seen as more merciful than embarrassing. At least Smith’s propensity for giveaways didn’t go into the history books.

- We’d recommend that maybe it’s time to give the third-stringer a look, except, well, there are only two quarterbacks on the Jets’ active roster.
