Would we consider Marshawn Lynch?

Highly skeptical until I see Marshawn in Foxboro.

That being said, does the offense get stopped if they had another Beastmode
Given the Branch sighting, I would still be skeptical.

I heard from Dark Helmet's cousin's sister's former roommate that its true!

If right (in the head) he is a beast. But I find it hard to believe that Seattle would trade him and that the pats would give up a second round pick for him.

"You know a guy"?

I think I'd puke if we traded a 2nd round pick for a 28 year old RB who has shown absolutely no intention to take less cash in the future.

His monetary cost is basically irrelevant.

Part of me only wants this deal to happen just to see Patriot hater nation drooling and foaming at the mouth. :D

Pure comedy gold...

OP if this is true you have major patsfans.com street cred...if not then you are a boob, win win really...

I think my Patsfans street cred should speaks for itself.

That being said I am just passing on what I see. We all know what Barstoolsports is about so take it with a grain of salt but also remember how far reaching stoolie nation is. IMO barstool has proven to be worthy of linking to but part of that is in the knowledge that we all know what the sites all about and groundbreaking journalism isnt it.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Marshawn with Brady at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

He's signed through next year :

3/4/2012: Signed a four-year, $31 million contract. The deal contains $17 million guaranteed, including a $6 milling signing bonus and all of Lynch's first- and second-year base salaries. Another $1 million is available through incentives in the final two years based on 1,500-yard rushing seasons. 2014: $6 million (+ $500,000 in per-game roster bonuses), 2015: $5 million (+ $2 million in per-game roster bonuses), 2016: Free Agent

Yes, but nobody's going to pay him that money. Whatever team has him at the end of this season is going to cut him; that's why Seattle is even talking about moving on in the first place. It's not like Michael or Turbin has made him expendable.

If it's true, the pick would be a little high for my liking but I wouldn't hate the trade. He's still one of the best in the business, and he excels in every facet of the game. The tweet definitely seems like a joke, though, and if they're interested in trading a 2nd for offensive help I'd rather they use it on Vincent Jackson.

Much rather have a #2 that will likely suck and get cut after having no impact on this team. The Pats don't need beasts....just value deals :)

I would rather see a front 7 defender. I agree though, a second for a second half rental is too much to give up, better to just act like you are going to make the deal and let Idzik go after him.

Maybe it's just me but $7M next year for Lynch seems reasonable to me. Not saying we should trade for him but that's not crazy money for what he is, assuming he doesn't fall off the cliff like some RB do.

Makes total sense. I mean, Seattle must be ready to give up on the season by now. ...

The theory would likely be about the locker room issues. Given that Seattle already moved money into this year for Lynch and he's still running fine, that would have to be the reason.

2nd rounder in 2017? If it's next year's, it's too much. Or maybe they get back a 3rd or 4th.
Was the #2 spent on Corey Dillon too much?
IMO....that trade completed the roster on what I consider the BEST Pats team in history. With Dillon...they were dominant....and unstoppable in 4th quarters. With Dillon, every lead was safe. We saw the power of a beast at the end of last season with Blount carrying the offense.....that is a valuable weapon during the grind of a season. Blount was a very poor man's Corey Dillon...and Lynch is better...and younger than Dillon was.
I vote....HELL YEAH......one word we all need to remember....WINDOW

I don't go much for these "fantasy trades". But of all the wild ideas that have been floated, the one that most appeals to me (though it will never happen) would be Jason Pierre-Paul. Can you imagine trading for JPP, signing Alan Branch, and getting Chandler Jones and Sealver Siliga back. Jones and JPP on the edges with Nink and Easley rotating, and Wilfork, Branch, Easley, Jones, Siliga and Walker at DT? That would also allow the Pats to use Nink more creative as a DE/LB, along with Hightower, Collins and Ayers.

Again, it's just a fantasy trade, and will never happen. But it's one that I'd actually consider making if it were an option.

Setting rumors aside....I have a hard time believing BB wants to enter the playoffs relying on a 3rd down back that gets brought down by arm tackles ...and two rookies. The pass-only version of the Patriots, as seen in losing efforts come playoff time, gets destroyed by time-of-possession imbalances. Can this current defense that wilts against sustained ground attacks survive in the playoffs considering the attrition they are already dealing with? Sure it is fantasy trading, but IMO, Lynch is what the doctor would order.

I'm assuming Lynch will be in Seattle through this season, a solid target could be Steven Jackson, he doesn't have much left but he'd be a solid veteran who can do all three jobs (run, catch, block) and would likely be very cheap given the Falcons' season and he's cheap this year and next.

This is all strictly my opinion and I don't have a lot to base this on other than perception, but I think the base is essentially dead. I think BB has decided that we see so much 3 wide that the new challenge for his defense is to figure out how to stop the run from the nickel. I think he has played more and more nickel, even when the opponent or situation doesn't dictate it because he sees teams on the schedule where we will play nickel on every 1st and 10.

That aside, in response to your comments above, what I would rather see is a ILB brought in who can take on the majority of the role Mayo played, so that Hightower can go back to being a weapon used in multiple ways to attack and offense.
HT has been an absolute beast this year, and the move we can scheme him to be disruptive, the better we will be, but at this point he needs to be the steady anchor on the second tier.
By the way, if you did not see the read and play HT made yesterday on the WR screen (Jeffery I think) go back and watch it. It was awesome.
