Patriots interested in Vincent Jackson

I'm not on any "Got to have Jackson!" crusade, because I could certainly understand someone who'd prefer more LB, HB or DL help, for example. But, there's a difference between thinking you could use upgrades elsewhere more than what you might think Jackson would do, and bleating out inanities like "chemistry suicide" and the like.

When was the last time a team brought in an offensive weapon at the trade deadline and it worked out right away?

You can only have 11 people on the field at once.

5 o-line
1 brady
Gronk
Edlemen(slot)
Lafell(or Vjax)
Running back

Then you have the second tight end(wright/hooman), Devlin, or a third WR.

I guess it would be pretty typical to see everyone here clamoring for a shutgun only 3 Wide set after spending weeks clamoring for the patriots to run the ball more.

You know it is possible to want them to stay committed to a consistent run game and also improve the passing game by the addition of a proven outside WR.

The emergence of Lafell and the return of beast Gronk sort of puts a damper on the Vjax scenario. But hey, you never know.

That's one of the best non answers I've ever seen. Bravo.

How do you cover Gronk, VJax and Wright in the red zone? Good luck with that.

Now try imagining a Gronk/ VJax stack. Or about thirty other plays/formations.

VJax is smart. He would pick up the offense quickly.

Too good to be true.

I haven't really followed the debate or examined the consequences of trading for Jackson so I don't have a dog in any fight. I do think we have the picks to expend on upgrading the roster, I do think Lynch would be the better upgrade and I worry about bringing a receiver into this offense considering the troubles we've had at that position. However, if Jackson can be had relatively cheaply (third or lower) then I have no problem with such a trade so long as any money owed to him doesn't stop us from making any of our important re-signings.

Lynch is a player I'd hope the Patriots would take a good look at. Having a big time RB would potentially be a huge addition to this team.

He'd have to help the passing game too because you really do have to stack the box with Lynch. And then of course there's the play action threat he offers. He's expensive for a RB but I think he's the one move that can improve our chances of a SB run.

But from reports it sounds like Seattle isn't likely to trade him this season, and if they did, not sure they would do so to a SB contender.

I'm a little concerned about Lynch's amount of wear and tear, but there's no doubt that he would add a dimension that we haven't really had since Corey Dillon in 2004.

They probably won't but the dream is nice. Lynch is just what this team needs right now to put us over the top assuming there's no decent defensive upgrades to be had.

Ayers look solid today considering that he just arrived. I'm still hoping that Branch will sign and firm up the run D. I don't see any impact defensive players. I'd be more than fine with Lynch, I just don't see it happening.

My query was for any team, not just the Patriots.

I honestly can't think of one.

No Doubt VJax can help this team ALOT.

The question is how much will it take to get him?

I dunno if I would give a second, but I would give a third (since the fourth we already got from them will be a borderline third anyway)

I know the rumor is a 2nd. But Bucs are now 1-6 and in play for the #1 pick. My guess is if a team were to call 2 hours before the deadline and say "3rd", he is gone. Hell I could even see it being a conditional 4th that could become a 3rd type deal.

Bucs have Evans and will probably have a top 5 pick and just signed their DT to a $98m contract they want out from Jackson's contract and right now is the only time to get any value for him. Because teams will just wait from them to cut him in the offseason.

Plus belichick is good buddies with jason licht...

If he restructures his contract, then I think this would be a good trade. He has a 10+ million cap hit for 2014 and 2015. This would make re-signing Revis and McCourty much more difficult.

On the other hand, we can never have enough weapons because we never know what may happen injury wise as the season unfolds

He has a $10 million non-guaranteed base salary, and a $9.8 million non-guaranteed base salary in 2015

Considering it would only cost the team about half of that to rent him (since Tampa has already paid him for 8 games)

This is a no brainer. Screw a third round pick. Bill will probably squander it away on some no name scrub anyway.

Anyone know off the top of there head who our third round pick were over the last 3-4 years? (Serious question).
