2015 Draft Prospect Thread

Rob Hollomon is from my alma matter Central Connecticut State University; which is an FCS school but he has become the schools all time rushing leader and he is an exceptional Kick returner too. I know its a FCS school but a number of places have Hollomon as a small school player to watch. He is probably a borderline NFL player much like Roy finch due to his small size (he is only 5'8 to Finch's 5'7) but I would love to see a guy from central get a chance in the NFL. Most sites do put him in the top twenty for running backs especially with his 40 time at 4.50. Here is some highlight tape

Thanks for the small school insight meatface.

Tony Pauline's website with some info on eligible underclassmen likely to enter the 2015 draft:

I always think its funny when guys get listed as underclassmen, I mean this is Melvin Gordons 4th year but it gets called declaring early because he still is athletically eligible despite there being no real reason for him to continue going to school.

SI.com's Chris Burke touts 4 prospects to watch, including RB Jay Ajayi and OL TJ Clemmings:

1. Jay Ajayi, RB, Boise State (vs. BYU, Friday, 9 p.m. ET): Looping in one of the four Friday night games because SI's Pete Thamel and Thayer Evans reported this week that Ajayi, a redshirt junior, now is "expected to leave early for the draft."

The six-foot, 215-pound back is in the midst of his second standout campaign as Boise State's lead ball-carrier. Headed into Friday, Ajayi is approaching 1,200 yards from scrimmage -- he has 867 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground plus 35 receptions for 317 more yards.

That every-down potential will boost Ajayi's stock should he head for the NFL after this season. The stats are no fluke, either. Ajayi can do damage between the tackles or beat defenders with moves on the outside.

He has a nationally-televised opportunity to show off Friday night.

2. T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh (vs. Georgia Tech, 3:30 p.m. ET): Clemmings has not joined some of his fellow tackles in the early Round 1 buzz, but his name is one to remember the closer we get to the draft.

Right now, the former defensive end is mashing Pitt's opponents from his right tackle spot. Clemmings (6-6, 315) is coming off an extremely impressive performance in the Panthers' win over Virginia Tech last Thursday. And one of the main reasons NFL scouts are keeping an eye on him is that, because of his rather recent move from defensive line to offensive line, there looks to be a decent amount of potential here.

As one might expect given his background, Clemmings moves well at the point of attack and is able to get outside, pull or clear to the second level. Guard or tackle could be in his NFL future. Either way, he could wind up an early-round pick.

Right now Ajayi and Tevin Coleman are my favorite day 2 RB candidates, and Clemmings is leading the pack of possible day 2 linemen candidates.

Iowa DT Carl Davis appears to be slipping significantly according to Draftniks. Tony Pauline had him as a week 4 faller, and recently wrote about Drew Ott having a much better season. Matt Miller adds this:

Iowa defensive tackle Carl Davis looks the part of a stud NFL prospect, but his film has been so-so this year. Said one area scout, "...Most frustrating guy I've had to write yet. Incredibly inconsistent in all phases of the game. His flashes are very intriguing, but I question his toughness and wiring."

Davis has the physical gifts to be special, but he's not yet put those tools together on the field to make an impact. A former first-round prospect, Davis is now moved down near the bottom of my top 100.

Davis will have a chance to rise back up the board, but concerns about toughness and work ethic shouldn't go away no matter how athletic he shows himself to be at the Senior Bowl or Scouting Combine.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2241989-2015-nfl-draft-matt-millers-scouting-notebook-for-week-8

Davis was someone a lot of people were considering as a 1st round option for the Pats. He might still be a good option at this point, but only if he he's available at our likely 3rd round comp pick or projected early 4th from TB.

CB hopefully won't be a major need going into 2015, if Darrelle Revis is extended. But the 2015 draft class looks like it could have 5 very good big CB prospects depending on the underclassmen declarations, with Alex Carter from Stanford (6' 200#) and Jalen Collins from LSU (6'2" 195#) joining PJ Williams (Florida St.; 6' 196#), Marcus Peters (Washington; 6' 198#) and Trae Waynes (Michigan St.; 6'1" 183#).

Matt Miller notes this about Carter and Collins this week (see link in above post):

One name that keeps popping up on my talks with NFL teams is Alex Carterof Stanford. The big cornerback has blossomed under new secondary coach Duane Akina. As one NFL scout told me this week, Carter has the talent and athleticism to shoot up draft boards.

NFL scouts dream about finding a 6'2" cornerback with long arms, quick feet and the hands to make plays on the football. And that's why Jalen Collins is a hot name in NFL circles right now.

The junior corner did struggle against Florida with a hamstring injury and a touchdown allowed (post-injury), but he has shown the versatility to play all over the field in coverage. He's strong enough at the line of scrimmage to frustrate wide receivers and has the instincts in space to be a threat on the ball.

I'm very much down on Davis. Not really interested at this point.

so a few days after leaving Ameer Abdullah out of my mock draft, he puts up over 341 yards from scrimmage. His vision and reaction times are extraordinary.

Abdullahs better than both of those but, he is a bit of a luxury pick..and a lot of a luxury pick if we re-sign Vereen.

Any seen Sam Carter SS from TCU ? CBS got him at 351... Edelman on defense? Former QB, very hard worker and very smart. Going on day 2 wouldn't surprice me, but getting him late in 3 round could be a steal.

Incredibly I think tcu hung 82 points on texas tech this week. That is amazing.

Shout out to my PSU defensive guys. OSU was averaging over 500 yards per game. Scored over 50 in four straight. PSU held them to 257 yards in regulation and 17 points. With the help of some very questionable calls in OSU's favor to boot. Watched the replay. Mike Hull isn't big enough to be a starter in a BB defense. But, he's a better version of a 3rd down lb than Dane Fletcher was. Amos did a good job on Huerman and in run support. Red-shirt junior to keep an eye on is Anthony Zettel. The DT with the pick six. Maybe, a rotational 3-tech dt with a few more pounds. Would love to hear a Pats crowd that loud.

Sorry I've been missing for a while.

Interesting name for people to keep an eye on is Pittsburgh OT TJ Clemmings. He's a former DL that converted to RT last year and at 6-4 and 313lbs sounds like a potential interior lineman. He has just made it into Todd McShay's top 32 prospects at no 25:

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draf...-spot-ranking-top-32-prospects-2015-nfl-draft (insider only)

Based on limited watching (i.e. this highlight video of James Conner in last years bowl game), Clemmings looks like a potentially nice prospect. Excellent drive blocker that nails his block and wins with length and strength and also has some nice athleticism and agility.

You are looking for the RT, no 68.

I came across this recently on Clemmings:

It was two years ago and [Pittsburgh coach Paul] Chryst was coming off the field at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., after the Panthers had defeated South Florida in the final regular-season game of 2012. Chryst ran into — or perhaps made a point of running into — defensive end (at the time) T.J. Clemmings, who hadn’t played in the game. It was then that Chryst first suggested Clemmings consider a move to offensive tackle.

“His uniform wasn’t dirty,” Chryst said Wednesday, recalling the conversation. “I said, `You should think about it.’ ”

He said, `Coach, I’ll do whatever I can for this team.’ ”

Almost immediately, Clemmings started working on offense during practices prior to the bowl game, and by the spring he had ascended to a starting position. Clemmings struggled with the transition last season, but he started every game. And guess what?

“He’s one of our better players right now,” Chryst said.

Recently, graduate assistant Hank Poteat addressed the team during training camp, he talked about some of the lessons he had learned while playing at Pitt and in the NFL. “One of the things he talked about was being selfless,” Chryst said, “And you couldn’t have a better example than T.J.”

Which brings Chryst and his team to the brink of the 2014 season when players voted Tuesday night on their co-captains. Clemmings, safety Ray Vinopal and linebacker and special teams whiz Nicholas Grigsby were overwhelming choices, Chryst said.

“They’ve earned it,” Chryst said. “It’s the way they work, day in and day out, how they handle their business on and off the field. I thought the team made a great choice, and if they wouldn’t have, (I) would have made sure it was a great choice. It was all them. It was authentic as it could be and that’s what made it pretty neat.”

Tackle/guard versatility. Converted DT, with good upside. Team captain. Physical. Unselfish player with a great work ethic.

Clemmings is quickly becoming my second favorite OL prospect in the draft after Brandon Scherff. Good call, Manx.

Kentucky versus Missouri this weekend, or as I think of it, Alvin Dupree versus Shane Ray. Might have to try and watch that one.

From Dane Brugler's week 9 stock report:

LB Bud Dupree, Kentucky, rSR (6-4 | 267 | 4.63): Kentucky is a program on the rise, but it didn't have enough to upset Mississippi State on Saturday. However, it was a good showcase game for Dupree, who showed why scouts are leaving Lexington with high grades on the Wildcats' pass rusher. He led all defenders with 10 tackles Saturday, adding 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack and two quarterback hurries. Dupree is a wild-card in Mark Stoops' defense, lining up with his hand on the ground as a defensive end, two-point stance as an edge rusher and then standing up off the line of scrimmage at the linebacker level. When dropping in coverage, he looked natural on his feet with fluid hips and footwork to easily redirect his momentum in space and adjust to coverages. But Dupree is at his best rushing the passer when he can show off his awesome first-step quickness and edge flexibility, collecting himself on the move and closing in a flash. He still needs to improve in several areas, but the natural athleticism for his size is why he currently appears in the first round or my mock draft.

Oakman - Fowler - Ray - Dupree. I would be VERY happy if we got one of those 4 guys to add to our existing group of defenders.

Also from Dane Brugler's week 9 stock report (see above post for link):

RB Josh Robinson, Mississippi State, rJR (5-9 | 215 | 4.60): Entering this season, Robinson had one career 100-yard rushing game, but he has four already this season, including a career-best 198 yards rushing vs. Kentucky. He averaged 8.6 yards per rush and looked like he was doused in grease with the way defenders allowed him to slip out of their grasp. Robinson, also known as the "Human Bowling Ball," is short, but thick and used his balance, low center of gravity and compact power to keep his feet and scamper away from defenders. With his shorter legs, he doesn't have elite speed, but sure looked fast enough in the fourth quarter when he beat a defender to the hole and motored 73 yards for a TD to extend the lead to two touchdowns. QB Dak Prescott is the face of the program and deserves the Heisman consideration he receives, but Robinson showed Saturday he is just as important to Mississippi State's success and a player NFL scouts need to know as well.

Did Brugler read my report on Dupree? LOL:)
No question Dupree is electric when rushing the passer, I still have concerns about how he is going to hold up against the run.

Also, when I was watching tape of Randy Gregory, Duke Williams, the RB from Miami really stuck out in a positive way.
