Would you trade Rondo to Houston for Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, and one or two 1st round picks? This seems to be all over the news recently.

pros: get even more picks, get younger, possibly sell high on Rondo who is still a wild card back from injury (plus his personality).

cons: give up your best player, one who could be a championship player if you somehow find 2-3 other championship players

I dont see the point. Idea is to accumulate players of Rondo's caliber. Need three of them to be convincing, with Sullinger hopefully as a convincing 4th man. If we can get one player in trade (Kevin Love?) and one player in the draft (Parker? Wiggins?), then this very quickly feels like an elite team again. We've got the assets to make that happen, seems to me.

Houston is 5th in the west and Phoenix is 8th in the West.

Phoenix has 3 first round picks in 2014 but they are all lottery protected.

Here's a great link for pinks ... some of the links suck to view.

Trade Rondo for more "chips"?? I do not see it.. they have a ton of draft choices and the NBA draft is never that deep..

Finding "two or three" other championship players is a crap shoot at best...

Celt fans well overrate what Rondo is worth in a trade. Now that he's come out and refused to sign an extension, he's practically worthless for the coming year in a deal. Plus add in he's gone into a hideous 4 year tailspin from his peak (including his on ball D which started to go to hell before his injury), he's injury prone (beyond his latest injury), remains a poor leader, and past the mid point of his career is still an erratic tool who takes off about 20 games a season. On top of that the PG is the strongest position in the NBA. No, we're stuck with him, hopefully his good traits will rub off on the kids next year and then he can walk. If he goes to FA and we sign him for anything over $10M/yr for 5 years, we're wasting our money and putting off the day that we can compete for the ECF and Finals again.

I can't see us getting Love and Parker/Wiggins will go top 3. I don't know much about the Australian kid Exum, but if he's as good as they are saying maybe he can be the answer

if i knew that the celtics couldnt sign him i would trade him. you have to get something for him. hes got one year left on his deal.

Time to revive the Rondo thread with camp opening Tuesday ...

Everyday I check the news I am hoping I hear rondo traded ... so tired of rondo ... make him gone.

Why draft Marcus Smart 6th overall otherwise, but to trade Rondo later?
It will happen either before Opening Night or on Deadline Day, but it will happen…I think.

Rondo breaks his hand jacking off to close to a wall ... what a douch*bag.

Now that Rondo is hors de combat for 2 months, it's time for Stevens to launch Full Tank mode.
In order to facilitate the process, I suggest the following starting lineup:
Bradley - Thornton - Bass - Anthony - Green
and hope that maybe 2 of these stiffs play well enough to spark some deadline day interest.

Rondo's days wearing the green are numbered, he "fell in the shower"... gotta do better than that.

On the heels of this.. coincidence??

From Deadspin..

On Tuesday, Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeckcalled the point guard "stubborn" and said he wasn't sure how "coachable [Rondo] really is."

At this point it seems like Rondo wants out and management is not keen on giving him a big contract.

We should trade him to get some sort of value. I don't think we'll get as much as we want because he's a UFA. But perhaps we can get something off of a desperate team

Stubborn is underselling it. Rondo is a massive douche bag.

We just need to get Ainge to wake up one day and say Evan Turner is looking good enough and Marcus Smart was a good enough selection to get 60-70 cents on the dollar for Rondo. We value Rondo too highly. The mark of a great player is one who makes those around him better ... Rondo does not do that and never will. But he'd be a great #3 or #4 star on an established veteran team. No young team in their right mind would or should trade for him ... he's too much of a douchebag to help a team grow. But he's plenty good enough to help a veteran team go to the finals.

I think everyone's being a bit harsh toward's Rondo - somewhat understandable with the broken hand thing going on, but he'll bounce back from that, and he already looked pretty decent coming back from injury last season

Now is Rondo the type of guy who "makes those around him better"?

Well, averaging just about a double double isn't anything to sneeze at - and a guy providing double digit assists by definition is making guys around him better in my opinion (though I do recognize that Rondo isn't at the same level as say, Chris Paul)

So what's Rondo worth - in either trade or for re-signing? Is he a maximum guy? Will a team give up quality players for him (because I agree, Ainge needs players and has ample draft picks)

And is Rondo interested on anchoring a team (double entendre intended) that is rebuilding assuming he gets paid what he's worth, if he's not traded?

I don't know the answer to any of these questions. I think Rondo would be happy to go/stay anywhere giving him a max contract. And I'm not ruling out that Ainge would effectively overpay to have that happen - because he DOES need players to build around and even if we consider Rondo the third tripod of what we'd need in a 3 all-star team to contend (and a good point guard especially is key to that) that's not insignificant.

I'd say a lot comes down to what Ainge thinks of Smart.

Overall it would not surprise me to see Ainge pass on trading Rondo, especially if the offers are not up to par

Perhaps Ainge lets Rondo's agents test the waters and avoide paying top dollar for him - even Rondo has to admit his injuries and own behavior are not helping his case for a max contract.

That may be the best scenario - though again I'm sure Ainge is listening to any and all offers for Rondo - just a question of what players other teams would offer.

I would be shocked if Rondo is traded before the New Year. Danny needs him to re-establish his value,
which as of right now is not very high. If the Cs are crapping the bed at that point, then keeping Rondo
makes no sense. If they are in PO contention and players like Sullinger, Olynyk, Zeller etc. are improving,
then things become very interesting.

Rondo looks very good right now on a team that is mired in mediocrity. He says he wants to stay, I don't know what will happen. The only thing is when I look at the top teams that would want him, i'm not sure what we will get.

Houston - no tradeable assets and will pick late. He would fit in perfectly there.
Dallas - If we get Ellis fine
New Orleans - I don't want Holliday, Evans or Gordon
Miami - Napier? Cole? Chalmers? that does nothing for us
Charlotte - maybe we can get some assets there

If Danny does trade Rondo, he better receive a legit Center in return, for starters.
