Emmanuel Sanders wanted to be a Pat

Of course it is. If Sanders was playing in Denver how he played in Pittsburgh, nobody would be bringing it up. He's having a break out season.

Again, Sanders was being discussed last year. He was also discussed this offseason, and early this season.. This is not a hindsight discussion.

Not the discussion itself, sorry.

The narrative that some huge blunder took place in him not ending up here like his 2014 numbers were a certainty.

Also THERE is no way to guarantee that sanders would have the same success here or any success. NO ONE can say that sanders would be putting together the same or better campaign here that he has done in denver. Yall are in a pissin match over nothing. Go do something else productive.

pats were too slow to sign sanders. i'm guessing brady probably wanted a taller receiver like Lafell instead of more pygmies....

Pats **** the bed originally. Steelers were cash strapped on the cap and could have offered a little bit more $. Then could've locked him up with DA deal. Homers need to stop searching for reasons to say the Pats couldn't have signed ES for a particular price. They were wrong, admit it, and move on. Honestly, I think the LaFell signing made up quite a bit for missing on ES

Every time someone uses the word 'homer' in a post, it immediately discredits what they are trying to say as biased and inflammatory. Just Sayin'. Not relevant whether I agree with you or not.

If Thomas and Sanders went down in Denver, why exactly would Denver NOT be in trouble?

The real question comes down to Wright and what's going on there. If the offense can get the 2 TE thing going like against Cincy, the WR talk is somewhat moot.

No defense currently can deal with that.
I said either or. Denver could survive an injury to a wide out, Pats would be in trouble. Edelman, LaFell, and Gronk (and to an extent Vereen too) are the only ones who can be relied on on a game to game basis. I agree, Wright getting involved would be huge. Hasn't done much since that game but we'll see Sunday.

It needs to be a discussion not a dissfest

A discussion about what? Sanders being full of crap?

Sanders should keep his comments about our team to himself. If he truly liked it here he could have signed with us.

I also think it's totally disrespectful of him to bring Amendola's name up. I think there might be some racism behind that remark.

Disagree.

An injury to D.Thomas would be devastating. He does a lot for that offense.

All it will take for this offense to go showtime is for Tim Wright and Aaron Dobson to develop and begin to consistently produce. Perhaps then, people will complain why the Patriots didn't trade for Megatron and why they didn't sign Jimmy Graham.

Agreed. He is their #3 option with two other guys the D has to worry about. Here he still may have been 3 option..but outside of Gronk no big play ability with our WR..having that threat helps him a lot.

LaFell probably could have done really well in Sanders' place. Trading LaFell for Sanders might not do too much for us. We would have needed to grab both.

Dominant? Plenty of times. How do you define `dominant`? A winning record? He hasn't even been `dominant` in all his years with Denver, like 2012.

I didn't even think they were dominating anything last season except Fantasy Football.

This year, however, they're unfortunately legit.

109 - 35 with the Colts, a year off, then 26 - 6 with Denver...

On what planet is 135 - 41 NOT dominant? And that includes years when they rested their starters cruising into the playoffs. A Manning team wins (in the regular season), period, usually by wide margins.

They brought in Sanders, Talib, Ware and Ward this year.

They lost Decker, Moreno, Bailey, DRC, Woodyard and Vickerson.

Their net gain was nowhere near what people seem to think. And they're playing pretty much like every team Manning has QB'd...

Sanders, Welker, Talib - all piss me off in a Broncos uniform

Can we snatch up 1 of their big 3 FA's this off-season? Miller/Thomas/Thomas

I'd rather have Edelman, welker all done after this year, didn't play much last night and hasn't been these days there.

I'd rather Revis over Talib and we beat denver to the punch with that signing.

I'll take the combination of Lafell and Edelman over just sanders, and that is how it player out.

Felger and Maz have snatched so many minds over here these days it's pathetic......those two clowns are fanning your flames for ratings and you saps buy in every day. Try listening to NFL radio for unbiased football talk, not BS.

Thinking about what could have been is depressing. We can't change the past so what's done is done. Just gotta move on with what we got and hope for the best. Lafell has shown some promise so hopefully the Brady- Lafell combo gets better as the season comes along.

Did the Pats not spend to the Cap this year? (I mean give or take a few bucks for in-season replacements?)

If they did, as they usually do, how can anybody talk about "cheapskating?"

The Pats still seem to maintain more solid middle-class guys than a few superstars, overall. So we will always boo-hoo about not being loaded at 5 or 6 really visible positions.

So yes, I would also like to say "the answer is, both!" It looks generally like Amendola was a plan that didn't pan out. I'll wait until end of season to just say, yep, that's the book on Amendola. Sanders as of right now looks like he was a great choice (right after a 2-TD game and a hot start in general.) That's probably how the verdict comes in at the end, but we'll see.

You can say the Pats picked the wrong one, but you can't say they're cheapskates. Their spending pattern just does not jibe with some players' self-evaluated worth.

:)

Agree, except with more hope for Wright than for Dobson. I am afraid he's beginning to make his way to Chad Jackson territory...

Wait, so they really wanted him but waited too long... but Brady overruled the FO and said they needed someone taller? o_O

I'm sure brady had some input...

Several things:
  • This article just highlights that the Broncos were more lucky than strategic to get Sanders. There were multiple things from Sanders changing agents, the ridiculous Decker deal, to LaFell not accepting the Broncos' offer that fell into place for the Broncos to get Sanders. Any one of them going differently and Sanders is on another team, possibly the Pats.
  • I am getting tired of the *****ing about the Broncos spending. So far their spending has done nothing to achieve their only goal for their "All In" strategy - win a Super Bowl. Anything short of that and their strategy is a failure for them. They were already a team that went 14-2 last year and went to the Super Bowl last season. They did this strategy much why the Pats went all in back in 2007. To get over the hump after failing the year before. They didn't do it to be the clear cut best team in the regular season.
  • Speaking of 2007, several things about that:
    • That year shows that going "All In" doesn't guarantee you anything even if you are the clear regular season best team in the league.
    • Many of the same people who are complaining about the Pats not going "All In" this year also complain about how the Pats "haven't won a Super Bowl in 2004" because of Belichick the GM. They don't give the Pats any credit going "All In" in 2007 and are killing him for not following his 2007 strategy.
Personally, we will not know whose strategy was ultimately better until the Super Bowl (or when both teams are eliminated from playoff contention). If Talib and Ware get injured again and their defense tanks and people stop their defense in the playoffs, this "All In" strategy will be a waste.

Ultimately Belichick was actually right for moving on from Welker. He just isn't the player he was anymore. He is a good role player at best. The Broncos got about 3/4 of a good season out of him for their money. If his name wasn't Welker and the Pats signed him to the deal he got in Denver and produced like he has, he would be slightly more popular in New England than Amendola right now.

Now you can kill him for getting Amendola as his replacement, but ultimately that position worked out because Edelman did replace Welker.
