Total hankies? 30. Accepted hankies? 22

How the F does Seattle only have 1 penalty in the first half? (Sad that we are going to say stuff like this now)

The first quarter didn't seem all that bad to me...that's about all I watched though, will watch the game again in the am when little man wakes me up

No the first Q was fine...after that is was horrible.

Seattle has yet to be called for.a.defensive holding. The team that probably caused a lot of these new flags...how is that possible.

You guys expect flags to be a issue Sunday? I am preparing myself for worst case...

Penalties Called Week 1
Defensive Holding, Illegal Use of Hands, Illegal Contact

2013 17
2014 48 (through 13 games)

They missed one at 6:20 (Miami's third and two from our thirty to forty before they went up 30-20). Chandler tries a spin, left tackle stays in front, then gives him a punch to the left side of his head, follows through and tries to wrap him up by his neck. So much for emphasis there.

Was there a renewed emphasis on touching the qb? That call on Hightower was pathetic. The way I remember it was you couldn't wrap and then pick up and drive the qb into the ground. Hightower lunged while the ball was in hand, and his feet never hit the ground. The late call on Chandler while tannehill squirmed like a fifa player...Lol.

The opi on Thompkins? "The league" is b.s.

I even saw some calls go in the Patriots favor and said "you've got to be kidding me"

the most minor of contact down field resulted in calls

Sweet mother of God, the officials must have had a rough time seeing the field with payton's willy bruising the back of their throat. Even my wife couldn't believe how bad it was, and asked (with some dread in her voice) if/when we play against the officials...err, manning. Thinks she might bring the baby to her friends to avoid the ranting and screaming at the television.

Wanted to pick up tickets this year, but if this garbage officiating keeps up in going to have to do my best not to get to into the game.

Got to love the the defensive holding call a couple seconds after the pick, one play after Wes clearly runs an illegal pick, legally engaging the defender as if run blocking.

One of my favorite things about the NFL is its pace, and these penalties destroy the rhythm of the game..

I was under the impression that the refs were going to back off as the regular season began, cannot fathom how this is making the game better.. for whom Manning??

Interesting stat, as bad as it seems it ain't all that bad.. unless it is what they call.

# penalties 2013 through 7 games 1383
# penalties 2014 through 7 games 1464

81 more penalties league wide for the first 7 games of '14, seems like more.

Penalty yards are about the same.. 12305(2013)... 12426(2014)...

The biggest problem that I have with the penalties this season, and I have really only felt this way this season, is that I feel my emotional response to each play has to be delayed until I wait and see if there is a penalty on the play. When I do finally determine that the play DIDN'T actually result in a flag (shocking at this point), I'm not as involved with the game. This is nothing specific to being a Pats fan, but just a fan of football in general.

I think that this is the real dangerous area the NFL is trending into - that they are messing with and muting the emotional response of fans. Instead of being directly and passionately engaged, the flags are making us take a step back and be more emotionally cynical and reserved, and this is exactly what will ruin the NFL's product if it continues or gets worse. Fans HAVE to be able to emotionally connect, and to be honest flags are ruining that for me.

The NBA has happened to already go down this path, and I just don't watch the NBA anymore because I can't stomach the last three minutes of each game dissolving into a wild drive down the lane resulting in a bail out call and foul shots. I grew up as a child in the 80's and wish that the NBA were still watchable, but it isn't, and the very reason is that you can't celebrate or cheer without first waiting to see if there is a foul, and that is exactly where the NFL is trending if it continues.

I've turned off about 6 games this season off the top of my head because the pace of the game was so unbearably slow due to the amount of penalty flags that were flying. Normally, I would have never turned off a professional football game to watch something else, but this is horrendous. I also came very, VERY close to turning off the blowout over the Bengals because the flags were ridiculous. I say this as a football and Patriots die hard so if I'm getting tempted to turn even great Pats games off due to this, it's only a matter of time before me, and people like me, turn off the game for good unless the league pulls it's head out of it's ass. I can't think of a single person that wants to see the game slowed to a snail's pace so grown men dressed like zebras can throw their gay, little flags all over the field because a corner or a LB even so much as breathed on a receiver. And no, I'm not going to apologize for using that word to describe the over-officiating.

We need to do a poll on this issue of turning off or not watching games. I think a significant % of posters here have changed their behavior.

However, us stalwarts don't really count.

NFL popularity is surging especially with those younger folks who pay $$$ for those NFL mobile apps. This is where the league makes big new money both from subscription royalties and from selling the game advt time to the mobil providers, a twofer! However casual, as long as these multi-tasking casual viewing high paying folks keep buying, the ref situation will not hurt owner revenues. The league could not care less how emotionally committed we are as long as Neilson (sp) etc. ratings capture the times we do tune in enough to encourage advertisers and the yuppie scum keeps buying those mobile subscriptions.

They said when they were showing the refs on what they want them calling none of the examples had Seahawks defenders on it.
