Kind of like a Madden rating.

Let's say 100 is the best possible rating, perhaps only achieved by Revis or Deion Sanders in their primes, 95 is all-pro, 90 is pro bowl, 80 is average starter, 70 is a borderline player, and anything below that is Darius Butler territory. I would say that Aqib Talib last year overall was roughly an 88-90. Where would you rate Revis's play this year? Has he lived up to your expectations? And do you think he is worthy of being the highest paid CB in the league?

Right now...85-90. But not all of it is his fault at times. Lots of zone first 3 weeks ect. Tough since he has been up and down it seems

I think you are constraining the space between "average" and "pro-bowler" a little too heavily. He is obviously above average, but not nearly pro bowl caliber to date, meaning the only acceptable range is roughly 83-87.

You'd probably get a more interesting conversation if it was...

100 - Perfect player
90 - all pro
80 - pro bowler
60 - average
50 - meh
40 - bad

Or something to that effect.

Only those with professional game tapes--with the know-how how to read them, should assess.

So I cannot. What to hell can I see on TV? The cameras sometimes cannot even follow the ball action let alone defensive movements. In fact, the play by play guy seldom even mentions the identity of the tackler, let alone the success of the coverage. There's time for 500 ads (esp in the prime time games) but little time for commentary on anyone but the stars. (JJ Watt gets more coverage than all the other players and coaches combined)

Plus, it's hard to judge his effectiveness without knowing what he was supposed to be doing on each and every play. Unless and until we know what was called for the defense each play, and what Revis' particular assignment was, we'll never have any honest sort of look at how he's performing.

That's why I try, for the most part anyway, to stay out of these discussions.

Like people have mentioned, it's been hard to judge since they played him in a lot of zone schemes early on. In my book Revis has 2 INTs on the year. He's only faced 1 real elite WR and 0 elite QBs. I honestly think he'll look better when we play better competition. The elite #1 WRs coming up will get balls thrown their way a bit more often than some of the average guys he's covered so far. And I believe Revis will rack up a few INTs over these next 6 games.

I'd say 85 for now. But this will go up to 95 by the end of the season.

Off the top of my head, there's only 1 player in the league I'd trade Revis for and that would be JJ Watt.

We share an agreement. 85 was the number that popped into my head but that's largely due to the fact that Belichick and Patricia seem to love putting Revis Island into zone coverage. This, I do not like.

I think Revis is similar to Talib but I don't think he is anything like he was in his prime. As long as he does not pull a Talib, I am happy.

I don't care at all about regular season... Pats will win the division. I care about postseason, and at least he'll be there, unlike Talib.

How many better corners are there in the game? If there are only 1 or 2, then he is an all-pro and worth a 90.

this and I would say you have maybe one corner in Sherman who's been better this season. Any talk of Revis not being elite is horse shiet. Anybody expecting 2009 Revis might want to remember that we aren't playing with 2009 rules.

I want to make it clear that not resigning Talib was the right move because he burned us in championship games seemingly on purpose imho. With that said, Talib seemed to play on our team better than Revis has. Not to say Revis has been bad but not quite elite. And for a time, Talib was elite.

In Madden, I'd give Revis an 85.

Interesting. I was thinking this earlier but I was being totally delusion and paranoid watching the Denver game. Could you elaborate on this?

Greg Bedard echoed your thoughts the other day by saying that he'd take Aqib Talib for "one game with everything on the line." He also pointed to his unfortunate health concerns as well though.

Knowing DEN's luck, they'll be the first team to get a whole season out of him--LOL.

Welker is a small guy and the hit didn't look devastating. Talib said over and over he was alright after the game and didn't need surgery etc afterward. It just felt like he made little effort to come back especially when I see Dennard out there playing hurt after a hard hit to his shoulder.

I too may be a little delusional on this, but I see Talib as a guy that is accustomed to being on vacation during the playoffs due to his Tampa days. Plus I am bitter because I feel that we probably win BOTH afc championships if he plays in their entirety.

No CB is worth a 95+ rating under the WNFL's current rules.

as a single player I said it would be pretty hard to play any better then Aqib Talib did at CB last year in todays NFL but revis is someone that gets a lot of respect around the league and the DB's on this team have Stepped up there game to gain his respect, the pass defense over the last 4 or 5 years has been the worst in NFL history and I know they have not faced a great QB yet this season but they are ranked #1 vs the pass after 7 games so I would say his doing his job

It is difficult to judge from our POV, as we do not know all the assignments and expectations... nor do we know the safety assignments...

Several years ago there were whines on this board about how Richard Seymour was invisible and a non-factor, only to have BB ascend to the microphone and tell us what a great game he had. This has happened for other players as well..

The eyeball test that we employ is not all that reliable.. but with that in mind will give him an 89.

Revis and Sherman are the 2 all pro CBs. Peterson and Haden haven't been quite as good this year.
