Thoughts on Dominique Easley?

He's so tiny. Not sure what his role could be. Right now my guess is he's a bust. Maybe he loses weight and plays mlb? His arms are short even for a trex.

A bust? Already? Coming back from knee surgery? game 7..he's a bust?

Where do people come up with this ****

Will need to rely on him a bit more with these injuries popping up
Hope we see him just blow through the a gap on manning. Just let him do one thing and one thing only, blow through and sack manning

Ya, his job every play is to pin his ears back and attack Manning (sack him). Can you imagine how awesome it would be if he made contact consistently. I am can dream :D

Dominique Easley's combine measurements: 6'2" 288#; 32 7/8" arms; 9 3/4" hands
Geno Atkins' combine measurements: 6'1 293#; 32" arms, 9 5/8" hands

I've already posted their stats through 7 games of their rookie seasons (Easley has played 2 less games than Atkins).

This is honestly all people need to know RE "T-rex arms, too small" e.t.c

Give the guy some time. If healthy, the lest 2-3 games is where I'm really going to be looking at him to see how he is playing and if there is any improvement.

I forgot all about him until I read an article this morning calling him one of the first round busts.

I assume his pick was off of Matt Cassel? I missed some of that game and like 2 of his 4 picks, so I assume that was his INT. Oh well, I don't expect much from NE rookies anyways.

The fact that anyone is trying to judge a rookie Belichick DT, let alone this early in the season and one coming off of a knee surgery outside the fact that he is seeing the field (which is highly positive) is insane. Belichick has drafted four defensive tackles in his career. One is a hall of famer, one is a borderline hall of famer/first ballot team hall of famer, and the other was an all-pro. Easley is seeing more snaps at this stage in his career than either Wilfork or Seymour did. Let that sink in for a moment. The two best of all time at their respective positions. Warren sat for his rookie year. There is no way in hell anyone can make an accurate projection of Easley beyond the positive indicator of his playing time.

Hear, hear! And your point still stands even if we stretch it to include Ron Brace. As lousy as the track record is at some positions, a high selection of DT or OL is virtually a guarantee of success.

Totally. I should have clarified that I meant 1st rounders on that post. My bad :)

I figured, that's why I said "stretch". :)

Frankly, even if you took your quote literally, take a look at this list:

Seymour(1st)
Jarvis Green (4th)
Ty Warren (1st)
Dan Klecko (4th)
Ethan Kelley (7th)
Wilfork (1st)
Marquise Hill (2nd uggh)
Jeremy Mincey (6th)
LeKevin Smith (6th)
Kareem Brown (4th)
Brace (2nd)
Myron Pryor (6th)
Darryl Richard (7th)
Brandon Deaderick (7th)
Chandler Jones (1st)

Even if you disregard the first rounders entirely, Bill still has a remarkable hit rate on DLs. Out of five 6th and 7th round picks, four were NFL caliber. Oddly enough, the only other guys who were inarguable flops were the three highest non-first rounders (two seconds and a fourth).

I overreacted by implying he's a "bust" through 7 games, but he's a FIRST ROUND pick. Jones, Hightower, Solder, McCourty, Mayo, Merriweather, Maroney, Mankins, Wilforrk, Watson, Warren, Graham, Seymour is the 1st round list. Where would you rate Easley's rookie impact to this point compared to those 13 players? Look up snaps and stats. Compare and enlighten me. I welcome a glimmer of hope for this kid. I'm not hating on him. I just think we need to utilize him now. We need an impact from this rook, and we need it NOW.

If he one time does that roll over thing followed by a gap shot I will go nuts ...

This is NOT the 2003 Patriot defense Warren was drafted into. Not even compareable.

When a player is drafted knowing that he is injured, I don't expect immediate results. Easley is filling in as needed. We may see soon whether he is up to playing lots more.

We all had scheme questions with regard to Easley. We didn't know how he would fit it to our various schemes. He seemed to be best suited as a 43 DT. We still have the same scheme questions.

i had such high hopes for brace being a local kid

He's a classic 'Tweener. That has got to be allure. Too small for 3-4 NT or DE, too small for a 4-3 DT but not long enough for DE and too slow and stout for a 4-3 OLB. 6-2 290 with quickness. Bill needs to find a way to unleash this kid. I'm hoping he shows signs come end season and playoffs as how we can use him. Collins as a OLB is a gimme. Jones can be an OLB or DE chameleon. Bill loves 'Tweeners just like Parcells did. Work this kid in and maybe we have something.

So far unimpressed. Read this Dominique and let it piss you off. Your too small to stop the run and too slow to get to the QB. You're a guy bouncing off other dudes in the scrum in the middle and making no impact. Time to make your mark.

Easley is ahead of where Wilfork, Warren, Meriweather and Graham where at this point in their respective rookie seasons.

Revisionist history. NE's defense was lousy in 2002 and no one expected greatness from them heading into the next year. In fact, Warren was supposed to be a big part of the solution.
