Vincent Jackson on the trade block?

Agreed, that should be the top priority and I would spend money in a pass rusher DE before spend in a receiver, but this possible trade for VJax makes a lot of sense and I believe the timing is also favorable. I believe VJax improves this offense immediately just being on the field demanding double coverage or at least the best CB from the other team. I'm almost giving up on Dobson, unfortunately. Having him and Gronk in the offense will make DC's lose their sleep, and then you have Edelman/Amendola and Vereen also in the mix with probably more space.

The problem in recent playoff losses is that the absence of outside the numbers and physical receivers is that defenses completely shut down the middle of the field and you can't expect Edelman, Amendola, Welker, etc...will win these match-ups. I would include that we don't have a RB capable of creating his own shot but that's for another topic.

If i thought that Vincent Jackson would somehow "put them over the top" e.g.. Moss then i could see doing it and trying to figure out Revis and McCourty other ways, but i don't see that, and even Randy Moss didn't "put them over the top"in the final analysis. I don't think anyone disagrees that they need the over the top receivers but they now have a bunch of receiving options over 6' and it is showing in Brady's downfield numbers as the season progresses. I am in the camp that they need help at LB and on the lines more than another receiver and i would use whatever capital they are willing to part with to shore up those areas. If there is a really good inside or middle LB that a team is looking to part with then that would be at the top of the list, second would be a Guard and the third a DL.

What I want to know is how signing him would affect the salary cap going into next year when we need to sign Revis and McCourty...

You can cut him or trade him at the end of the year, if you want to.
