As far as "delusions" go you are screaming about the ineptitude of the most successful franchise in football, that speaks for itself.
The only delusion I had was the delusion that they kept up with Denver before the beginning of the season.
And yes I am screaming about the ineptitude of the most successful franchise in football. Thanks for making my point. This year will not be a high point in that history, unfortunately. And I ask who what and why. I'm invested in this team both emotionally and financially as much as anybody who post here.
I'm not one of these guys who when someone is pissing on their back believes its just raining out.

Whether they "kept up" with Denver or not will only be determined at the end of the season, but like last season at this point it looks like the bronco's are a better team, but that doesn't mean they will be at the end of the season. Football is a game of attrition and right now the Patriots have suffered some really significant losses and are still winning, how the Bronco's fare when they lose some of their best players will be determined down the line. Right now the Cowboys are the best team in football, but I doubt there are too many here or anywhere other than Dallas who would bet they will be when the Lombardi is hoisted.

Imo how the Patriots will ultimately fare will come down to two major things, the OL, and how well their defense as a unit performs. If their OL shores up then they will have another good season offensively, but it won't mattert unless the defense manages to turn into the unit we all hoped it would at the beginning of the season. Losing Siliga and Mayo has obviously hurt them significantly, but they will have to find ways to deal with those losses, and if history matters they should figure it out. How any is playing in September and October rarely has much to do with who wins the Super Bowl, other than to rule teams out, and in this case they are leading their division and should win it. Like any other season i will watch it unfold and hope they are fairly healthy and ready to make a run come january, you can declare them DOA if you want, i have no intention of doing so.

You do realize that in 2007, the Giants were considered one and done in the playoffs after going 4-4 in the second half of the year for a 10-6 record? They beat the 18-0 Pats in the Super Bowl. In 2011, they went on a stretch of losing five out of six games (four of them in a row) and had to win their final game to get into the playoffs at 9-7 on their way to another Super Bowl win against the Pats. The 2011 Ravens lost four of their last five games to stumble into the playoffs as a Wild Card team and won the Super Bowl. In 2010, a completely injury depleted Green Bay Packers with a 10-6 record won the Super Bowl as a Wild Card team.

Stop acting like the season is over. Since the Pats last won the Super Bowl, the best team in the league during the regular season in any given year has won the Super Bowl twice. The 2011 Saints and last year's Seahawks are the only teams to have the best record in the NFL during the regular season and win the Super Bowl since 2004. And in that time, six of the Super Bowl winners played Wild Card weekend which means they weren't even in the top 4-6 teams in the league going into the playoffs. A few weren't even considered top 10 teams.

Stop acting like the season is over.
I'm not but they got a tough road to climb. If they get into the playoffs which I know that they will they got a good a chance as anybody.
They lost Mayo and Jones through the toughest part of the schedule. And they pick a couple of guys that look like they are part of my thanksgiving day table, an overweight drunk and a cripple..
They could done a lot more with the roster than what they did. Look the Bruins got rid of guys because they went over the cap the Pats got rid of guys because they don't want to spend more than they have for any position. Which means it going to be very tough signing Revis and McCourty going forward.

The Pats are almost definitely going to win the division.

Jones may miss two games. The Pats only play two games between the October 17th and November 15th. If he is going to miss a month, he could be back by the Colts' game.

I don't think Jones as big of a loss as most for the Denver game because you beat Manning by disrupting his receivers' routes. The pass rush is secondary.

The Pats have plenty of room to re-sign both McCourty and Revis. Plus, they can franchise McCourty if they need to. But you called Revis the "Asomugha from the Jets". So why would you be concerned about re-signing him if you obviously think he sucks?

I swear I am getting convinced you are just a troll stirring crap up for your own personal jollies.

Wrong poster

They have plenty of room but will they??? I don't know how you dare carve that in stone.

I'm a footy pajama guy like the rest of you. I know enough to check to see if their soiled once in a while when something starts to stink.
I'm not going to swallow the company line when I hear they did all they could to put a competitive super bowl contender together.
UP TILL NOW. They don't pass the eye test with me. But it does not mean the seasons over. But its my opinion and you got a right to disagree and give yours.

That explains this thread much better now.

You can take medication for that.

No, you just think they suck and have no chance.
Wrong again.
I think they should be better and have a lot less chance than they should at winning it all.Playoff teams don't suck they WILL be a playoff team and I'll be watching with my heart racing and swearing my head off on every play.
With that said I am a betting man (not fantasy) I will not be betting them to win the SB.

Instead of asking why this year won't be the high point in that history you should be asking why they were so good the previous 14 years. The answer is because they used the same team building principals that you are railing against now.

That does not mean they don't make mistakes or over estimate or underestimate within that system. Part of that system is coaching up chicken shiit into chicken salad when it fails you you got a chicken shiit and huge holes and lot of unemployed receivers, again. The system has been great, this year not so much.

You must have had some pretty bad coaching.

Maybe, maybe not...we shall see. Regardless it is silly to trash a system that has produced an unprecedented amount of success in a salary cap environment. I understand you would rather scrap that system and go with the Jets/Broncos system of "Go for it" but then again neither of those systems have produced anything worth while yet.
