Report: Tennessee Titans LB Akeem Ayers traded to the Patriots

My only concern is that from reading about the surgeries, he's likely just one serious injury away from retirement. But we shall see.

He didn't rupture his patella tendons, which would be major. It seems like, from what I read, that he had some "cleanup" in each knee to address tendonitis, which isn't anywhere near a tendon rupture reconstruction, like what Victor Cruz is facing. It is more than nothing, but not exactly what typically threatens careers.

edit- gee, I said what ^^he said^^^ at the same time!

Are you trolling? just asking, no biggy

No. I watch the games. I check my opinions/observations against what others have seen.

Collins has had this same problem since college, FWIW.

Edit: Here's Bedard on Collins, so far this year, from the film review threads (I didn't look at the Jets one because that got a bit snafu'd, but you're welcome to look for some there):

Bonus:
Collins - blown up in the running game, only 20 snaps

Jamie Collins: growth hasn't been there, and isn't playing well, also should be playing SLB, not WLB

Jamie Collins - "He is pretty useless", may need to play one of the nobody linebackers and just bring Collins in on subpackages

Collins - Struggled again, not so much physically, but he had a tough time out there

Collins is a problem, because he should be strong side over the TE, but he can't play there because he gets run over.

a few years back i ruptured the triceps tendons in both elbows. if that were the case with ayers he wouldn't be playing until next year.

so you watched him in college? i never knew you were so on top of everything. your original post was almost on par (but not quit) with the one a few years back when you kept agreeing with borges that the pats shouldn't sign wilfork to an extension cause he had a family history of diabeties and could croak before his new contract was up

Ahhh.... the old "misquote the poster" move. Fascinating.

Thank you. That link proves my point. Nowhere in that thread did I recommend not signing Wilfork.

You certainly didn't disagree with the notion, though.

Since I never commented on it at all in that thread, it would have been impossible for me to do so.

Here's something to note though: How old Reflexblue was claiming Wilfork to be in 2010 v. how old Wilfork actually was in 2010.

Could this mean he is here to help ease the pain of losing chandler jones and provide lb depth?

Bottom line is that it can't hurt to give him a try. We got him for chump change and maybe he'll succeed here.

Along with the Branch signing, it looks like a switch to the 3-4 is incoming. If that is the case - do you play MLB Ninkovich/OLB Collins or MLB Collins/OLB Ninkovich?

Ayers appears to be best suited to a 3-4 OLB if you look at his height & weight and Branch is a solid 3-4 DE.

Ninko is far better as a DE, than OLB.

Very nice pickups if they are healthy and focused.

"In the offseason, the 25-year old Ayers underwent surgery on both knees, having the patellar tendon in each repaired about six weeks apart.

That, coupled with the Titans’ switch to a 3-4 defense, meant Ayers had played in just two games so far this year, with 10 total snaps on defense. He was credited with three tackles."

Doesn't mean he ruptured them.

Tendinitis happens in the "gasp" tendons.
