Bedard film review: Patriots vs Jets

Per Betrand: Patriots/Broncos will not be flexed

AWTE, Jay Shields, and Andy Johnson are the 3 best film analysts on the 2 message boards, IMHO. All far better than any of the regular "professional" analysis that we get.

What are their backgrounds with regards to football?

Who moved the Bedard thread?

Mazz on the other hand I think simply doesn't understand football on a fundamental level. He's a ball watcher.

Mazz is a lifelong baseball guy, has a hall of fame vote and everything. I love baseball, but it's a sport where one guy throws to one other guy, and if the hitter is better than the pitch thrown, the result is a play where one defender throws to another. Every play is in a vacuum, and is a series of one on one matchups where individual skill wins out.

He simply lacks the capacity to understand a sport where the fate of one play is a tangled web of assignments and efforts spanning 22 individuals, and if ONE guy is off in the wrong place at the wrong time, it can foul everyone else up. That concept is completely foreign to him. He breaks it down like every trench battle is one OL versus one DL, and a pressure is the result of a failure on that one OL. Or every receiver is covered start to finish by one DB, and that's why zone play is stupid.

Mazz actually just said something smaht: If you want to beat the Patriots, run at Collins and throw at Chung.

But imagine if we could somehow merge the two. A Collins who could play the run like Chung, and Chung who could cover like Collins. The stuff that dreams are made of.

Someone must have mistakenly merged the earlier thread, so I'll pick this up from here

On the Percy Harvin trade, "It's a little late for the Jets". They already have Kerley. Going to eat up cap space. Does make them faster.

The Pats weren't in the mix nor should they have been. If they are going to go after a receiver, they should go after Vincent Jackson.

He doesn't get what Idzik is doing. Protects the cap and then breaks strategy for Percy Harvin (with a negative connotation in his voice).

Persistent, I'll give you that.

Doesn't get what Jets were doing by making the Harvin trade

Persistent, I'll give you that.

I do this as a service to the board. I could be out making some runs for work right now, but I'm putting them off until 4 in order to do this.

Back in the day, all Brady had were small quick receivers that he hit within 3 yards of the line and they ran after the catch too. Now they still have a few who can, but that isn't the offense anymore.

Lafell has shown decent promise in this area.

?????

I do this as a service to the board. I should be out making some runs right now.

I'm very grateful to others for listening to that crap and giving us the salient points. I'm just amused, as well.

Miguel merged the 2 threads.

Bedard:

Would still take Brady over Manning

Peyton was, by far, the least pressured QB in the NFL last year. No question in his mind that Brady would be as good, or better, if he was in that offense.

A caller calls in says that Manning is worlds better than Brady right now. Bedard still says he would rather have Brady. Felger and Mazz babble on. Bedard says that Manning was by far the least pressured QB last year and has tons of weapons. "He has everything you want. And there is no question in my mind if you put Brady in that offense and he is as good or more."

Felger says that Manning is better at reading defenses. Bedard disagrees.

Tom sees the game as well as anybody. Brady is just as good as Manning on the line of scrimmage.

I think you may have Rob on ignore, so I'll point out that he's doing the same thing in the thread that yours was merged to, which makes some sense. I don't mind the two threads, but they're covering the same topic and it would be easier to follow both view points in one thread. That said, carry on, I'll let the board decide where things should be.

There's nobody better than Rob Ryan at defensing the Patriots
