He was cut by the Rams today. He has some talent as a big possession WR and red zone target. He played for McDaniels in his rookie season. So he is familiar with the Pats' system. I wonder if the Pats would put in a waiver claim for him.

He did have 38 catches for 399 yards and 4 TDs for the Rams last year. In the Rams' offense to a real NFL offense conversion chart, he would probably have 50 or so catches for 600-700 yards and 7-8 TDs.

I've watched a lot of Rams games over the last few years. He's not bad, he's just a guy. Doesn't use his height particularly well. He's one of those guys who makes circus catches and then drops every other ball that hits him in the hands.

He also operates primarily out of the slot and isn't going to unseat Edelman or Amendola. Not for this team.

Why do we need to look at yet ANOTHER wide receiver? His skills would seem redundant amongst Tyms/LaFell/Dobson.

I think he is different than Tyms and Dobson, but he might be redundant with LaFell. He is more of a possession WR than an outside threat.

I don't think there is a good chance he makes the Pats' roster. But the McDaniels connection is the only reason I mention it.

He's very much a poor man's LaFell, and was used primarily in the slot in St. Louis. Any way you look at it, he'd be redundant.

Tyms and Dobson havent done much this season. Dunno how anyone can be complacent at wide out. one injury to edelman and lafell and pats could be in big big trouble. Not saying Tyms and Dobson won't do anything but until they do its worth looking around.

Amendola and Lloyd discredit your conversion.

You're right. If we use the Lloyd conversion factor from Rams to Patriots (1.45 times as many receptions), Pettis would actually have 55 catches.

Played for McDaniels doesn't exactly inspire me...

I don't think that the Pats receiving corps is the most individually talented, but I think it is easily the deepest and reasonably talented throughout the entire receiving corps, that Belichick has ever fielded with the Pats.

Gronk, Edelman, and Vereen certainly rank among the best in the League at their positions.

So, we cut Dobson? Tyms? Amendola? to open up a spot?

He'll be just great having missed camp here. After all we've seen how easily FA WRs adapt to the offense, especially missing training camp.

OMG, Austin Pettis???!!!! I'm beginning to wonder if its possible for ANY WR to be cut by an NFL (most of whom will be worse than the Pats) and NOT wind up being a thread on this board.????????????????????

AGAIN....repeat after me. The Patriots have some holes to fill. None of them happen to be receivers. My god, Josh Boyce would be a better option than Austin Pettis. C'mon man.

I'd be fine bringing Pettis in for a look so that we can have him on speed dial in case someone gets hurt and he's still unsigned. He would be a good shadow roster backup for Lafell. But other than that, no.

I always liked Boyce. I guess there is no way to measure a prospect's courage or heart.

Not if they can't line up in the right position, know the differences of audibles/switches, get the overall scheme down pat, and develop a positive chemistry with our quarterback first.

Josh Boyce may have a lot of heart, but unfortunately he's not using that heart to improve his chances of seeing the field any time soon. Had it not been for the lack of options last year combined with all of the injuries, he'd still be waiting to see the field.

Being late for a meeting in the NFL can be a career killer but so can not producing.

Question: Pettis was the Rams #6 WR & is best known for?
Answer: His Mighty Ducks tat on the back of his neck.

We can't get Dobson on the field + Edelman is backed by Amendola. Pettis is another slot guy. What would Pettis do for the Pats? No

Brandon Lloyd played 11 games for the Rams and caught 51 passes in those games, which equates to 4.63 catches a game, projected over 16 games that is 74.18 catches. In 2012, he had 74 catches with the Patriots. I am not sure what you are talking about, but it seems to be 1 to 1.

Another new guy? Heck, they've barely worked Tim Wright into the offense and we're 7 games in. Who we have is who we have. I'm good with these guys, on the current trajectory.

much like last year, unless a player plays defense we don't need him right now.
