Let's honour Manning on the TD record...

Here's what I admire about Manning. His work ethic. His study habits. His longevity. His love of the game. The man has performed at a high level for a LONG, LONG, time.

Here's what I don't get and hate. Why is his playoff inadequacies are completely forgotten. Sorry, but if you can't even manage a .500 record in the most important part of the season, how can you even be considered as the GOAT........ ESPECIALLY when you have a contemporary (Tom Brady) who has excelled head and shoulders above you. 18-8 vs 11-12 is a significant stat. Tom Brady can lose his next TEN playoff games and he'd STILL have a better percentage than Manning.

If someone wants to say that Manning is the greatest regular season QB of all time, I'd have no problem with that description. Anything more than that is a strictly a media fabrication. You can't be the GOAT when there are a half dozen QB's most people would rather have playing in a big playoff game.

BTW- In both of Mannings superbowl losses, he had the ball with tjme and a chance to win and FAILED. In Brady's 2 superbowl losses, Brady not only led 4th quarter drives to take the lead in both; he never had a real chance to make that last drive.\

BOTTOM LINE: We SHOULD honor Manning for passing a significant milestone, but the asskissing media has made that impossible for me. I guess, I'm not the man I should be, but that's how I feel

Obviously, I disagree, since I pretty well already said it. I'd take Elway or Marino on Manning's teams and imagine they'd have a couple Bowls each at least, and probably less embarrassment in playoffs too. Just my opinion, but the point is the claim is certainly up for debate. After more time to think than my initial post, I'd also take Steve Young over Manning. So there's 3 on my list I'd have above him in addition to Brady in the past 40 years. Manning's constant choking and throwing teammates under the bus are both fatal flaws, imho.

Manning's playoff stats are much better than Marino and Elway's and better than Young's. His postseason QB rating is actually better than Brady's. All of these guys have had terrible moments in the postseason, you're just choosing to emphasize Manning's and ignore the others'. Let's not forget Brady's virtual pick 6 against the Broncos, brutal pick against the Jets in 2010, implosion against the Ravens in 09, and momentum swinging pick and critical misfire to Welker (YES, Wes SHOULD have caught it, but the throw was not Brady's finest) in SB 46. Brady is 8-8 in the postseason after starting 10-0 (Manning is also 8-8 in the past 16 after starting out 3-4). Does that mean Brady has become more of a "choker" or less "clutch", or does it simply mean that, in a competitive league, most playoff games are coin flips that are not decided by one man and come down instead to the vagaries of fortune? To me, given the exact same personnel for all the marbles, I'm taking Brady, then Montana, then Manning, but it's very close.

Of course his stats are better. In addition to stacked teams (his Broncos squad last year was immense) and rule changes literally designed to be in his particular favor- stats are what he does. They're the only thing he does. What he doesn't do, pretty much ever, is win big games. And not only does he come up small, but he's often involved in the nature of the actual loss. And I'm not just talking SBs here either. Some of his playoff exits were almost hilarious.

Brady/Montana/Manning are not close. Nuh uh. I'd forgive someone saying Brady, Montana, and then... tier 2 and if you want to plug Manning in fine. But I'm sure as heck not going to put him 3 even if someone wins the Elway concept with me there's no way I'd take him above Marino. (I also wouldn't take him above Unitas, Graham, or S. Young, or Baugh either.)

It's an opinion game so I get to feel that way. And that's why I say it's not "clear." I don't know what the makeup of this board is, but there's statistically no chance I'm on an island putting him further down than #3.

I dare anyone to name me one QB who has had more offensive talent around him in NFL history.

You could put Mark Sanchez on that team and i think he could go deep in the playoffs. People think it's all peyton and his wobbly passes...but look who he has around him. He doesn't have DT or JT. That O would not be good

my goodness. elway is montana's ***** ( so is marino )

Go look up the defenses Montana played with. People forget the 49ers were loaded on both sides of the ball. Their D's were often better than their offenses (not that people remember that). Montanta never won a SB without a dominant D, reminds me of another QB.
