Rob, you're one of my favorite posters, but "word was" doesn't cut it. Is there anything more concrete?

Who cares, really? A player isn't a member of a team until the contract is signed. That's completely cut-and-dry; verbal agreements don't mean anything, and they shouldn't.

most of you guys come out the generation of pink hats.

I resent your sexism. I'm female, but you don't see me making hand-wringing threads about how those big bad broncos have already won the Super Bowl. My god, let the season play out before you tell everyone the sky already fell. We have a team with a lot of heart this year (as they have repeatedly shown). So give them a chance and let's just see where the ride takes us? In the playoffs, pretty much anything can happen with NFL teams that are always so closely matched. If you think you know the outcome already, maybe you should be making millions in Vegas, eh?

From rodney's interviews in the past, he was sitting outside Al Davis room ,ready to talk to him when BB called. He wondered if it was sign and took the next flight out in summer clothes out to NE where BB told him exactly how he wanted to use him. that is the gist of it i remember .The rest is history.

If the Pats don't go deep into the playoffs.
The off season talk WILL be about spending to the cap.
I'm not going to play gotcha. That's not my point.
But a lot more people than I will be asking why.

I'll leave this thread on this.
The powers that be who make up this roster could have done a better at putting this team together with the money they have to spend. I never said it was an exact science or it is easy.
Those who don't see it are delusional.
Go Pats!!

That's the first sensible post you have made in this thread.

Still does not mean he broke a verbal agreement.

The Pats have gone deep into the playoffs the past 3 seasons. If they don't go deep this year, the off season talk will clearly be about why they didn't do so, for whatever reason - personnel, coaching, effort, execution, chemistry. Nothing should be sacred.

They've drafted much better than we have. Most of our draft picks in recent years (especially on offense) have been utter failures.

And I doubt anyone on this board questions that Denver is playing extremely well, has an extremely talented team, and is a legitimate SB threat, perhaps even favorite at this point. It's the implication that the season is essentially decided, or that there is one way to build a team, that some find offensive.
i agree... That certainly wasnt my point of contention. I think the Pats are in great shape... Can anyone really be mad at 5-2?. Pats are a threat to win SB as usual far as i am concerned. The offense continues to look bettet every game.

Precisely how? Well...seems straightforward enough to me. Aquib Talib. TJ Ward. Emmanuel Saunders. Demarcus Ware (7 sacks in 6 games). Each one of those is an upgrade over last year. Doesn't mean they can't be beaten, but to claim that it's the same team the Seahawks blew out is delusional.

Huh?

How exactly is this going to fundamentally change the dynamic of a team that without a gift 17 points last year......would have been blown out in Foxboro?

BTW, Sanders is not an upgrade over Decker nor is any RB on their roster better than Moreno.

Outside of Kontradiction's uncanny ability to not intelligently evaluate talent; it's a complete mystery where exactly the TJ Ward love comes from.

Only on patsfans.com can a 27 point win make one team "top tier" while a Patriots 26 point win over the same opponent make them complete stiffs.

Comparing the past 6 drafts, with the clear hits underlined:

2009:

- Denver: Knowshon Moreno (12), Robert Ayers (18), Alfonzo Smith (37), Darcel McBath (48), Richard Quinn (64), David Bruton (114), Seth Olsen (132), Kenny McKinley (141), Tom Brandstater (174), Blake Schlueter (225)

- Patriots: Patrick Chung (34), Ron Brace (40), Darius Butler (41), Sebastian Vollmer (58), Brandon Tate (83), Tyrone McKenzie (97), Rich Ohrnberger (123), George Bussey 170, Jake Ingram (198), Stryer Sulak (199), Myron Pryor (207), Julian Edelman (232), Darryl Richard (234)

2010:

- Denver: Demaryius Thomas (22), Tim Tebow (25), Zane Beadles (45), JD Walton (80), Eric Decker (87), Perrish Cox (137), Oric Olsen (183), Syd'Quan Thompson (225), Jammie Kerlew (232)

- Patriots: Devin McCourty (27), Rob Gronkowski (42), Jermaine Cunningham (53), Brandon Spikes (62) (+/-), Taylor Price (90), Aaron Hernandez (113), Zoltan Mesko (150), Ted Larsen (205), Thomas Welch (208), Brandon Deaderick (247), Kade Weston (248), Zac Robinson (250) (Hernandez was a clear hit at the level he was drafted; no one anticipated the level of issues that would later arise)

2011:

- Denver: Von Miller (2), Rahim Moore (45), Orlando Franklin (46) (+/-), Nate Irving (67), Quinton Carter (108), Julius Thomas (129), Mike Mohamed (189), Virgil Green (204), Jeremy Beal (247).

- Patriots: Nate Solder (17) (+/-), Ras-I Dowling (33), Shane Vereen (56) (+/-), Stephen Ridley (73) (+/-), Ryan Mallett (74), Marcus Cannon (138), Lee Smith (159), Markell Carter (194), Malcolm Williams (219)

2012:

- Denver: Derek Wolfe (36) (+/-), Brock Osweiler (57), Ronnie Hillman (67), Omar Bolden (101), Philip Blake (108), Malik Jackson (137), Danny Trevathan (188)

- Patriots: Chandler Jones (21), Dont'a Hightower (25), Tavon Wilson (48), Jake Bequette (90), Nate Ebner (197), Alfonzo Dennard (224), Jeremy Ebert (235) (some may disagree about Ebner)

2013:

- Denver: Sylvester Williams (28), Montee Ball (58), Kayvon Webster (90), Quanterus Smith (146), Tavares King (161), Vinston Painter (173), Zac Dysert (234)

- Patriots: Jamie Collins (52), Aaron Dobson (59), Logan Ryan (83), Duron Harmon (91), Josh Boyce (102), Michael Buchanan (226), Steve Beauharnais (235) (plus pick part of the LeGarrette Blount trade)

2014:

- Denver: Bradley Robey (31), Cody Latimer (56), Michael Schofield (95), Lamin Barrow (156), Matt Paradis (207), Corey Nelson (242)

- Patriots: Dominique Easley (29), Jimmy Garoppolo (62), Bryan Stork (105), James White (130), Cameron Fleming (140), Jon Halapio (179), Jemea Thomas (206), Jeremy Gallon (244)

Comments:

- 2014 is obviously too early to judge, and probably 2013, though Sylvester Williams and Jamie Collins are both solid starters.

- I underscored players that I felt their respective teams would clearly pick over that spot, or even pick higher. I gave +/- to players who were solidly productive for the level at which they were drafted, but who weren't clear-cut "likely to be redrafted by their team if they could do it over".

- Von Miller at #2 overall was a pick that should have been and was a home run.

I personally don't see a huge drafting advantage to Denver. They made some excellent picks on all 3 days (Miller, D. Thomas, Beadles, Decker, J. Thomas, Trevathan). They had some major early misses (Tebow, Moreno, Ayers, and Alfonzo Smith, for whom they traded a 1st round pick). But I'm not sure I see more hits than for the Pats (McCourty, Gronk, Jones, Hightower), especially given that they didn't have nearly as many early picks for the Broncos.

Saunders IS better than Decker. Decker is softer than butter. And TJ Ward is replacing Champ Bailey who was clearly on his last legs. I notice you don't mention Demarcus Ware. If you don't think the additions of Talib, Ware and Ward, not to mention Von Miller being back fundamentally change that defense from the one that played in the SB, I don't know what to tell you.

None of this reflects on my opinion of the Pats, who I still think can give the Broncos a run for their money if they behave as they usually do which is to continually improve as the playoffs approach. But pretending that the Broncos aren't a very strong team that will be a challenge to overcome is, frankly, whistling past the graveyard.
