Let's honour Manning on the TD record...

Did anyone hear in the post-game press conference, when a reporter asked: "Peyton, how many of those touchdowns would you give up to have won at least one more Super Bowl"?

Neither did I.

Nobody on this forum should care about this record.

It's a nice little Peyton milestone for his fan boys, but in the end, nobody cares.

No question the playoff failures are part of the legacy, but also no question he stands with Montana and Brady as the 3 best quarterbacks of the last 40 years.

peyton is not better than john elway.

Peyton is a (paper) Champion. Seriously though, he is easily the greatest regular season QB of all time.
Unfortunately, to win Superbowls you need a balanced team and Manning has always been on pass happy teams loaded on offense but no so much on defense.
ps. I personally think it's a little embarrassing when he turtles when a defensive player gets anywhere near him (took a page out of the Tony Eason playbook).

another manning stat.

3 sb appearances...peyton has 3 td's and 4 picks. 5 td's if you include the ones he threw to the other team. nobody ever mentions these numbers though..his postseason failures don't count yet when tom got eliminated by the ravens in 2012 he was crushed by the media. imagine if brady was one and done 9 different times? lol

No question? Even with Unitas missing the cut by only a year (last year 1973,) I'm not sure I wouldn't want a Marino or Elway before Manning. (Even, perhaps, Steve Young. Although I would want to give a list more thought before throwing him in.) YMMV, but there is question. And if you remove the "past 40 years" stipulation he's even further down the depth chart relative to Brady.

I'm not saying he isn't an all-time great QB. Since Brady/Manning are the best 2 CURRENTLY, we keep trying to make it seem like they're close. But Brady deserves more respect than that convenience, I think.

A few things, though

1. Peyton worshipers can't whine about balance and then boast about his offensive stats in the same breath.
It's called a... con-tra-diction.

2. Peyton had balanced teams. He still lost.

3. The Colts were almost always favored going into the post season. Manning didn't lose to `more balanced teams.` He just choked to under dogs, and began to wilt at the first sign of adversity.

49ers were missing bowman, aldon smith, and patrick willis. they didn't have a chance tonight. one of their starting cb's was also out, another had a hamstring problem and had to leave the game. no dorsey as well so they double teamed justin smith. jimmie ward also out.

seattle will be fine. as for the afc, lets see what happens. baltimore looks pretty good. flacco's great in the playoffs. already has 9 playoff wins. while peyton has 11 i think.

Seattle isn't the same this year defensively. They just aren't. Maybe they can turn it on. I expect they'll got 8-2 at the worst the rest of the year. But you don't have to be far off your game to get burnt by the Denver offense.

Peyton is the Dan Marino of his generation.

Eh. Elway suffered some epic meltdowns in Super Bowls before they rebuilt the team around a running game.

OK, that seriously makes me want to puke just to get the concept out of my system. Can you imagine Brady stopping play and prancing in the spotlight like that, let alone PLAN it ahead of time? Forehead Omaha has no sense of grace.

But but him and Edelman choreographed that TD spike.

Guy hits 50k yards passing and he didn't even care about the ball. He was more worried about the refs resetting the playclock.

Set the regular season record for TD passes and immediately was trying to get the team lined up to go for a 2 point conversion.

He can have all the records in the world, the only one that matter though is Championships. Passing stats in todays NFL mean jack ****.
