"chosen to punt and lose" That's a deceiving way to put it. It's not automatic they would've lost.
It was a stupid play and I stand by that.
You are 100% wrong. The defense just let up three straight long TD drives and all Seattle needed was a FG to win. Punt and you are almost certainly signing your death certificate.
Even had the play backfired and the Hawks got the ball deep in Ram territory, it would have led to a short TD with plenty of time to mount a comeback. Something they wouldn't have had after a punt.
It was a brilliant call.
I thought similarly. Unlike 2009 though, lining up to punt brought the element of surprise that probably helped make it work. They almost had to do it. If Seattle got the ball back..game was over...ST louis knew this and went for it...loved the call.
Exactly! When you are bad you play other percentages so sometimes this leads to different decisions. Kudos to the Rams for knowing that.So it was a good play because they're 1-4 and suck?
Poker can actually be statistically modeled whereas football can not.
That's terrible reasoning and way of thinking.
The issue is this: what happens if STL punts? That's terrible reasoning and way of thinking.
No, it's a good coach's way of thinking. Any play that puts your team in position to make plays to win the game is a decent move.
Remember the 2003 game vs. Denver?
That was such an incredibly stupid call.
The punt return for TD, and the fake punt (*Given the circumstances) are 2 rare plays you'll be lucky to see again. Very lucky win IMO.
