Vincent Jackson on the trade block?

You've got not real point, since

  1. You don't know the asking price
  2. His salary can fit under the cap
  3. The team has nobody of his proven talent level/skill set currently at WR

so why are you arguing against it anyway?

Because every player in the league could be traded for. Why would we assume a player, who the article says is drawing tons of interest around the league, would be affordable?

Now in fantasy football, I suppose you trade mostly for WRs, i don't know. In real football, i'd be pursuing maybe a DT only for the type of compensation he'd draw and what are present and future needs and abilities to acquire that type of player are.

Yeah maybe nobody else is willingly to give much. Not saying trade the farm for the guy. Who knows how interested these teams may or may not be. Plenty of teams just doing the old "due diligence." Contract is low risk so if he can come for a 4th or 5th then it very well may be worth the risk. All depends on how familiar he is with a playbook like the Earnhardt-Perkins and or ability to learn.

Why would we be willing to offer more than other teams? what is it about our needs, salary cap and past talent decisions that would make someone think we'd be the top bidder. Is he damaged goods or something?

Your argument is that the Patriots shouldn't trade for Vincent Jackson because RayClay doesn't know what Tampa would demand in trade?

We've had success with our yearly steals from Tampa Bay. Bill should seriously try to trade them for someone

What!!? Pats should only trade Amendola for Jackson+McCoy. Bucs should throw in a 5th rounder to even out the trade. Still pretty lopsided trade in favor of the Bucs. ;)

My argument is, with all the NFL players at different positions under contract, why would we trade for a receiver?

As I said, I'd be happy to trade a 7th round pick and pay vet minimum, or negotiate from there. For some reason, I don't think that's going to get it done.

Would I consider a trade for McCoy knowing it would be difficult and expensive? Yes. There's a huge difference in the possibility of gettong such a DT and our needs now and in the future, in actual football.

All for it if it makes the team better.

what makes you think we can outbid hypothetically team for hypothetically DT difference maker? That argument works both ways. I believe you can pursue multiple positions at once last time I checked. Perhaps not in fantasy football Ill get back to you on that. Obviously both lines and LBs are more pressing needs but its good to always be on the look out for upgrades. An injury to Edelman or LaFell would leave very little proven talent behind them. I dont think they'll pursue it because its hard to plug and play wide outs but worth a call. im sure teams call all the time about players doesn't mean there's an offer on the table. Anyways thats just my 2 cents.

Maybe they called already, it said there were tons of calls.

If a deal can be made that will make the team better long-term, then we should make it. This is true for players at many positions.

And no, we shouldn't decide not to improve the team at WR because we need a MLB.

The notion that receiver is not still a need position is contrary to reality.

The team needs* a DT
The team needs a WR
The team needs a S2
The team needs 2 LBs
The team needs a RB
The team needs an OL
The team needs a DE

The smart GM looks at all possibilities for all those positions.

In order to avoid the "but they don't NEED need" type arguments, consider the word "need" to include the concept of "could certainly use a player who improved the position".

@RapSheet: Who else could be traded? I’m told #Bucs are getting tons of calls on WR Vincent Jackson. TB loves him as a player, but considers everything

Thoughts?
How good is he at playing left guard, or maybe left tackle?

Spiller broke his collar bone so he is done.

can he play OL? Rush the passer? hold the edge against the run?

How about Jackson for a fourth round pick.

Oh my god I would just about die, what a dream that would be. Holy sh*t. I mean, I like our receiving corps, but this would just be ridiculously good...

I wanna say it's not real likely, but I think it could definitely happen, especially if the Pats did a player swap again of some kind with them. They have been very amenable trade partners several times in the recent past.

I can't even think about this, holy hell.

Jackson, LaFell, Jules, and Gronk with Vereen in the backfield as a base? Then go no huddle, split Vereen out wide
