Seattle Seahawks trade WR Percy Harvin to the Jets

Apparently stuff coming out now about how bad of a cancer Harvin was at Seattle. Got into a bunch of altercations with teammates, including punching and giving Golden Tate a black eye during SB week, and almost coming to blows with Russell Wilson this year....

Apparently he still has some support with guys like Avril and Lynch, according to some of their tweets...
If he has behavior and self-control problems, he's going to exactly the right coach and organization. Undoubtedly, they'll provide him with the disciplined environment he so desperately needs. Yeah, sure...

Rex Ryan must already have his bags packed......I'd take him on as our DC

looks like the circus just found its third ring.

I'll get my popcorn.

undoubted talent. Will improve them. but Gen is still Geno.

Now if Vick where the starter..........

Hawk fans are not happy with the conditional pick given what they paid for Harvin, but this nugget on their board sort of sums it up nicely.

"Sometimes you have to cut your arm off before you turn into a zombie."

Some athletes with immense talent are just jerks/talent wasters. Dwight Gooden. Harvin.

This may be the Patriots homer in me but:

Take away Harvin's contract, attitude problems, and injury risk. Just focusing on the field, who's a better football player: Harvin or Edelman? Edelman's a better WR, better PR, tougher, and can still run those reverses and whatnot.

Teams fascinations with Harvin really is strange.

One of the best DCs out there

I'd take him over Patricia....anyone with more than half a brain would

So essentially you are saying you want Ryan over Belichick. Because that's what defense Patricia is calling Belichick's.

Harvin was like a repeat of the Branch deal for the Seahawks - high expectations with little to show for it.

In this system, JE is clearly the better player. Generally, I would say as a WR Harvin is quicker with higher potential physically - potential only. I wouldn't trade JE for Harvin. Given the fact he is still gimpy this year and has an attitude, I am about as impressed with the Harvin move as I was with Santonio Holmes. He is an underproducing diva that brings the team down. In short, he is a Jet. Welcome home.

Any claim of not focusing on stats rather than Harvin's game-changing ability is easily offset by the notion of not focusing on history/past performance rather than what is on the field today. In the last 3 seasons, he has played in 15 of 37 games, in the last two 6 of 21 games for the Hawks. Those with short memories of Pats accomplishments should probably consider the reality that this guy last played a full season (and more than single digit games) in 2011 when the Pats went to the Super Bowl. Total his entire performance in all games played, and he cost the Hawks about $3 million per game, $667k per reception and $9 million per TD. Worth it? Not hardly.

Here's my take on this trade:

1. Assuming all this crap is true about his paint I believe the Jets are going to get the best of Percy Harvin....at least for this season. Harvin HAS to understand that he'll never see that 2nd year of his contract unless he says and does ALL the right things when he gets to the Jets. If he proves a malcontent with them, NO team will every put up big money for him again. Its in his best interest to be the perfect teammate for the Jets.

2. If he's healthy its going to cost the Jets a 2nd because he'll like meet the 2nd round standard.

3. In an ideal world, Harvin will get the Jets to the 6-10/7-9 level, without beating the Pats in December. As much as I dislike the Jets, I would hate for them to be picking in the top 3 of the draft.

4. I have to give the Seahawks some credit. They made a mistake giving Harvin all the money and the Vikings all those picks, but at least they had the balls to admit it, and got what they could back and cut their losses.

5. Once again the old Pioli quote comes to mind. "It's not about accumulating talent, it's about building a TEAM".

Classic case of using stats but not actually watching the game argument.

Yeah, he had three TDs called back against a bad Redskin defense, but he got at least one of them for holding. I forgot about those and it was one game vs. a bad defense where the Seahawks still scored 27 points even with three TDs being called back.

But then again, that is indicative of Harvin's career. He is a stud one week and non-existent the next four or five. That is why I don't like guys like Harvin. You can't trust them because you never know which version of the player you will get from week to week. Same reason I never got the love affair with some on this board for Torrey Smith.

Jets cut David Nelson to make room for Harvin. one of the pre-game shows on Thursday had a great piece on Nelson and his brother, they bought a few houses in Haiti and are running an orphanage for kids who were literally living in gutters. hopefully some team picks him up, so he can continue his work.

So the Jets removed a guy from their locker room who literally saves children from dying and replaced him with a guy who regularly beats up his teammates, yeah, great move Rex!!!!!!!

This is going to be very interesting to watch.

Harvin could light it up in a Jets offense that's comatose most of time. Kicking FGs is the road to losing in the NFL unless youre playing in a monsoon. Harvin could bring TDs in the passing game and KOs that the Jets desperately need.

Harvin could also go berserk in the NY night life where trouble is always waiting to happen. Something bad is bound to happen when you've got a short fuse guy like Harvin in that atmosphere. He strikes me a someone who doesn't give a crap.

I still don't believe that the Jets will make the playoffs though. NE, Denver, SD, Indy, Cinci and either Baltimore or KC are my contenders barring unforeseen circumstances.

And it'll almost certainly be a top six pick. That's Seattle's reward for burying him on the Jets.

I have little doubt Rex will make him a team captain.

I can see that this being like the Santonio Holmes move. They get him, get one good year, make a big commitment to him, and then everything falls apart. I can see that Harvin playing to get his money next year will fly straight to get the Jets give up the 2nd round making him uncutable at least for the 2015 season (no wy Idzik gives up a second rounder than then cut Harvin and keeps his job).

Without knowing what the deal is for draft picks, I don't know if he going to be worth a second rounder or not. If the second rounder is only contingent of him being on the Jets' roster at the beginning of the 2015 NFL year, I think the Jets give up the second no matter how good he is. I can't see Idzik making this Hail Mary trade and cutting him unless he is an absolute disaster in NY. He is forced to keep him beyond this year because his job is now in part tied to this trade. If the Harvin deal is a bust, Idzik is likely gone.
