Seattle Seahawks trade WR Percy Harvin to the Jets

Admittedly, I didn't see this portion of his contract structure. If they can part with his contract at any point without consequence/dead money that's understandable

they have to pay him 7 mill this year...last of guaranteed $$..then can dump if not working..but next year he is 10.5

A little misleading since the Seahawks used Harvin in short passing situation. He is averaging 6.0 YPC this season (22 catches for 133 yards for the season). He is only passed to on high percentage passes. It skews his high catch rate.
Take away his longest catch of 33 yards
21 rec
100 yards
4.76 ypc

Marshawn Lynch has been a better option at receiver than he has this year.

Well jets have two good receivers. Problem is they don't have a QB on the roster that can throw effectively to them.

I suppose if you're looking to infer that, you can. Since I'm not bragging about post count, but just pointing out that they are there, however, one would have to be deliberately looking for such an inference.

If you want to talk about patronizing, feel free to look at your own post.

Glass
House
Stones

this is why you have the most post. You'll go back and forth with anyone over everything and nothing.

So yes. This is exactly why I inferred it.

But hey, don't let my opinion factor in, after all, I need not make them up when your post count already speaks of it.

Rex is actually pretty good at accommodating prima donnas.

I wonder what the price would have been if Bill called and wanted Harvin for the Pats? Two first rounders?
I personally see this as Seahawks giving NYJ a FU. While Harvin is a good player, they do not see him as worth the salary for next year and not integral to their plans moving forward this year or next. Therefore, they trade to a team that is a non factor and will completely squander his talents and they get something for him. There is no chance they trade him to anyone they think can compete in the playoffs.

Seahawks basically gave Harvin away just to dump his salary.

"Percy Harvin" is basically just a name at this point. Not much production.

Seattle thought he would be a crucial part of their team. They ended up winning the SB without him, for the most part, and Harvin has always been 2 things: extremely talented and a head case who misses a lot of time.

This puts them in position to use the money for Wilson, and probably helps team chemistry. For the Jets,

Harvin
Decker
Kerley

Cumberland
Amaro

Ivory
Johnson

means GeNO! has no excuses.
Sure he does -- he can't tell time.

Let's just hope that the Green Beans climb to 7-9 and the whole circus returns intact next year.

I see Harvins potential as a threat but the guy just disappears for periods of time. No doubt he's talented and will help the Jets run some type of wishbone with Geno and Ivory. They had the cap room and they made the deal. I just think they could of used their money on someone like Revis or Bryant who would have had a much bigger impact.

When I think of Harvin the first thing that comes to mind is he is a dual threat. The 2nd thing is he is one of the most injury prone players in the game. You can roll off all the stats you like to counter that point, but it won't change my mind.

Anyone saying he Jets aren't a more talented team because of the trade are delusional. But they are also taking a big risk with him being injury prone and playing roulette with their salary cap.

What difference does the position make? A head case is a head case whether he's on offends, defense, plays in the trenches or in a skill position. Wherever he plays, a head case is "risky".

Of course you're right. I was being deliberately provocative.

Any time you give a big contract or spend a lot of capital acquiring a player, there is an inherent risk involved if the player gets injured and doesn't work out. More so if the player has known elements of risk in the first place. As NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal put it:

Every team makes personnel mistakes -- the smart teams recognize them quickly.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...-the-seahawks-trade-percy-harvin-to-the-jets

The Seahawks took a gamble in paying a lot to acquire Harvin and giving him a big contract, and it didn't work out. To their credit, they recognized it, cut their losses, and moved on. That's what BB would have done.

Again, you're absolutely right. But it's a good lesson for those who advocate trading for every big name / big contract WR out there as the solution to all our problems.

jeezus...does EVERYBODY just surrender to their fears every freakin' day in here???

Look, Harvin was just dumped by a team that's aiming for the Super Bowl again. A team that just paid him TWENTY FIVE MILLION DOLLARS GUARANTEED. Yeah, but oh noes!!! He's going to really blossom on the Jets!!! Waaaah, Mama!!!

cannot believe the level of Rat paranoia on this board.

He'll be the second coming of San-phony-o Holmes for the Green Beans.

even worse, Tunes...in fact , he's hurt right now...guess we can all get real scared when the Rats are 1-8...you know, because, well Rex is in BB's head and *whimper* *sniffle* *sob* *blubber*....we WON a hard fought game last night. The team that lost did so because they were pushed into a an end game corner. All these crybabies want to have it one way, but it wasn't the Pats forced to call TWO TO's leaving just one before the 2 minute warning. If Genius Blubbergutz hadn't been FORCED into those TO's (and he was FORCED by the Pats into them..PERIOD), perhaps the Rats have a little spare time at the end...of course THAT presupposes the Pats RUN THREE TIMES TRYING TO KILL CLOCK on the possession before. THIS is what kills me, all these whiners ASSUME all things stay the same except the things that fit their scary mary scenarios.

What happened is all that matters. What happened is the Pats won, the Jets lost. Stop bawling about what ifs.

Maybe Rex will make him a captain....

His production is fine. His availability is a different issue.

Look at it this way: 22 catches on 26 targets

For 6 yds a catch from a guy that's supposed to be a threat every time he touches the ball. The KC TE has 2 fewer catches for more than twice the yardage.

Seahawks basically gave Harvin away just to dump his salary.

"Percy Harvin" is basically just a name at this point. Not much production.

For comparison:

Harvin, career:
60 games played/47 started
303 receptions
3,452 yards
11.4 YPC
53 long
20 receiving touchdowns
5 KR touchdowns

Edelman, career:
71 games played/31 started
218 receptions
2,223 yards
10.2 YPC
56(!) long
11 receiving touchdowns
3 PR touchdowns

I know you're joking, but I really don't how this trade represents going 'all in'. The biggest cost here was a mid-round pick, which I fully expect Idzik will recoup by trading down. That's the Seahawks/Packers philosophy that Idzik comes from. The Jets have more than enough cap room to accommodate him, he fills a need, and he accelerates the timeline on which they can evaluate Geno, all without sacrificing any flexibility in the intermediate or long term.
Supposedly could be as high as a 2d rounder.

someone here tried to trade percy harvin to me in exchange for I can't remember who it was for, but i laughed out loud because percy harvin is a literal, and figurative headcase.

him going to the jets the same week we beat the jets is like finding out your promotion at work includes a new car
