Seattle Seahawks trade WR Percy Harvin to the Jets

I don't get this trade for either team. The Seahawks gave up a lot to get this guy and now they are dumping him for pennies on the dollar. He must be a serious locker room cancer if he can't get along with Pete Carroll. Carroll had problems here but that was because he was a horrible coach at the time but all the players liked him. They gave up a first, seventh, and a third plus guaranteed him over $25 million (which they eat most of that). That is a lot for one great game in the Super Bowl and not much else.

For the Jets, their season is over in October. They don't have much talent. Harvin can't stay on the field and even when he is he is more potential than production. He is going to eat about $6-7 million of their cap money this year in a year they are playing for nothing. He has a high cap number every year going forward. They could lose cap space and a third or fourth for a half the year rental in a season that they have next to no chance to go the playoffs. And if he is the head case that he is rumored to be, he is just going to add to the circus in NY. Looks like Idzik is making a move to show Woody Johnson that there was a reason he held onto that cap space.

I think this could be a lose/lose for both teams. I would say the Seahawks already lost the trade with Minnesota.

Deus firmly believes you can't win anything without a #1 WR...

I've got more posts on this site than anyone else. That being the case, why do people feel a need to make false comments about my positions?

His production is fine. His availability is a different issue.

Look at it this way: 22 catches on 26 targets

A little misleading since the Seahawks used Harvin in short passing situation. He is averaging 6.0 YPC this season (22 catches for 133 yards for the season). He is only passed to on high percentage passes. It skews his high catch rate.

The Seahawks were hoping that Harvin would catch the ball on short passes and make plays with with the ball in his hand. So far this season, he got the catching short passes part down. The making plays with the ball in his hands, not so much.

Overall his production is poor. If the Pats had a receiver who only had 133 yards on 22 catches, people would say stop throwing him the ball. People wanted to bench Brandon Lloyd for more than doubling Harvin's average when he caught the ball. Lloyd averaged 12.3 YPC as a Patriot while Harvin is averaging 6.0 this year.

Why? Look at all the luxury suites with the flat screens and lights turned off, not to mention the empty seats in all 3 levels outdoors. 1-6.

Bingo.

This trade was made by the 1-6 dead as doornail Jets for one reason and one reason only. You hit the nail on the head.

Next up, Michael Sam, Richie Incognito......

Harvin's contract is ridiculous for any team. Not to mention his attitude. I doubt he will do much for the Jets. We should be able to contain him

Why can't the Patriots ever go "all in" like the Jets or Buccaneers???????

I know you're joking, but I really don't how this trade represents going 'all in'. The biggest cost here was a mid-round pick, which I fully expect Idzik will recoup by trading down. That's the Seahawks/Packers philosophy that Idzik comes from. The Jets have more than enough cap room to accommodate him, he fills a need, and he accelerates the timeline on which they can evaluate Geno, all without sacrificing any flexibility in the intermediate or long term.

Seahawks haven't had a 1,000 yard receiver since Bobby Engram in 2007.

Clearly, Seattle doesn't need an elite passing attack to be successful.

Well, I'm thinking that there's a great opportunity here for someone with music & video editing skills to take "Harvin to the Jets" and do a takeoff on Elton John's "Bennie & the Jets".

Might be incredibly funny and snarky if done right. :D

I'm sorry. What does the former have to do with the latter?

It's pretty easy to find my positions. One need not make them up.

Right. This is a better way to say it cause the other way comes across as patronizing and chest beating.

Expensive and made of glass since 2011. In his 6th season - 303 receptions. No 1000 yard seasons. No 100 receptions seasons. $12 million price tag. In two years he has 23 catches for the Sea chickens so I can see why they dump him. The Jets only redeeming feature is an abundance of funds to add major contributors, so this contract takes that bright spot away and forecloses the possibility of adding future saviors.

The Jets were looking for that one last big mistake - enter Percy Harvin and his contract. Say hello to IR in three weeks and goodbye to cap space. The bring back Revis crowd in NY will love this move. The Hawks were stupid to add him at the price they paid, but they are cutting losses and looking to pay for major contributors now. The Jets want to fill seats after reviewing the Hawks deal. Textbook Jets. They may not win the Super Bowl, but they are the undisputed champion of sucking.

I suppose if you're looking to infer that, you can. Since I'm not bragging about post count, but just pointing out that they are there, however, one would have to be deliberately looking for such an inference.

If you want to talk about patronizing, feel free to look at your own post.

Reading your post, and given last night's game, I immediately thought "Here is an example of the Jets wanting to get their own Amendola".

Why does this kind of thing always happen to you?

Patriots almost drafted this guy. They were about to nab him when Brad Childress moved up one spot ahead of NE and took him.

That may well be true - but at twice the price. The Jets will not be outdone by the Pats.

Beware the rematch - if it happens in the next 3 games before Harvin is added to the Jets IR.

Ah yes. I miss Childress. He openly bragged about that and how he outsmarted Belichick.

Good times.
