It was nice to see him get a catch that wasn't called back by a penalty. It was certainly a great catch too (a high degree of difficulty).

Sure, he had a good game, but getting one catch isn't the standard around here. We wouldn't be saying Julian Edelman had a good game if that was his lone catch. Of course, for a guy like Amendola who has been criticized week after week, let's put it in perspective and call it like it is.........a step in the positive direction.

I'm certainly happy to see him conribute.

As soon as he caught that ball last night that was the first thought in my mind...great catch...
I love what Welker did for this team.(But that drop still kills me) But last nights catch by DA was actually a tougher catch because was being defended and there was a lot more on the ball.
Friggin Callahan this AM said it was a great throw. Puhlease..It was a great save by DA. The throw to Welker was an easier catch for Welker considering how he had both hands on the ball.
I gave Danny A my game ball. Solid kickoff returns. Great hands on the onside kick and winning TD.I'm glad for him. Coach was too.

Not sure if it's been mentioned already but amendola seems natural for the team to have as our KO returner

Which begs the question why he wasn't in before. Possibly he was still getting up to speed from groin surgery...which could also explain inability to get separation

Quite possibly they put him back their to get him so reps running w the ball at game speed

However that 3rd down pass break up on pass to DA was weak as he could have came back to the ball and fought for it

All in all, great to see other players start get involved

duh!

We've had Amendola on the team all year and CHUNG has been returning kicks. Ya think that maybe, just maybe, Amendola was not yet physically able to be our KR.

He has had to play hurt at WR, because we had nothing else, and because Belichick and Josh are comfortable with his play (no matter how many message board fans want him to be inactive and cut).

I will give it up for Danny Boy he did a good job returning kicks, the touchdown catch was terrific, he drew a big pass interference call, and sealed the deal recovering the onside kick. Last night was a solid showing by Amendola.

That all acknowledged and appreciated, he had 1 catch on 3 targets so associating his performance with the word great is an overstatement. The catch was impressive, but catching the football has never been a problem for Amendola so I am not surprised by that, his problem is his inability to get open, which was still very apparent on the touchdown pass, Brady threw the ball where only he could make a play and he made a terrific play adjusting to it. I am not trying to rain on his parade but my expectations for the WR who was paid more than any WR other than Randy Moss and Wes Welker in Belichick’s tenure is not referring to a 1 catch performance as great, no matter how impressive that 1 catch was.

I am happy for Amendola that he did something positive, as much as I dislike him as a player and the signing of him I think he is a stand up human who appears to work hard and really care. I appreciate that as a fan. I just have a hard time being overjoyed with a receiver who is on pace for 11 catches and 96 yards this season.

His accomplishments in the game were major factors in the outcome - winning TD catch and the onsides kick recovery, in particular.

As big, for me anyway, was the compliment paid to Amendola specifically by Tom Brady in the post-game interview with Eisen, Mariucci, Faulk, McGinest and Prime Time. If there is improved trust and communication between Brady and Amendola, he adds another dimension to a growing receiving corps that makes the Patriots even tougher to defend.

I think what is lost in the post-game analysis is that the Patriots put up 27 points in under 20 minutes with the ball in their hands. That's incredibly efficient. If the defense could have gotten off the field, it might have been a major blow-out.

I agree, Amendola influenced the outcome of the game. I would expect the sixth highest paid player on the team to influence the majority of the games though so I'm not going to scream from my rooftop just yet.

Speaking of catches called back by penalty, I was just rewatching on Game Rewind, and man that call on LaFell on DAs catch was utterly weak. A crossing route that wasn't even that close to DA.

the call on Browner for holding about 5minutes after the supposed act (once they realised that the receiver didnt catch the ball) was pretty weak too..

Jets had some real questionable calls go their way last night

Somebody posted that the Broncos offense scored only 24 points in 33 minutes against the Jets, as though the Patriots scoring 27 in only 19 minutes indicates an obviously superior offensive performance. This idea overlooks the fact that one should also pay attention to how the offense complements the defense. Scoring points as quickly as possible is not always the best goal for an offense. Sometimes it is better to take longer to score on a sustained drive. The Patriot defense was gassed last night and would have benefited from the offense spending more time on the field. Perhaps if the offense held on to the ball longer the defense would have gotten off the field more effectively. The ability to sustain long drives is something the Patriots have not been especially good at in the past and it has come back to bite them. It is something they are likely to need moving forward, perhaps in a couple of weeks against Denver.

I also liked his KO returns, plus that onside recovery was huge, but that best is that TD catch, the ball was behind him, that was pretty much the same exact catch that Welker dropped in the second SB loss to the giants, that would have sealed he game for the Pats.

Yup, DA made the catch Welker couldn't. I do believe on that catch that DA went the wrong way but was able to correct himself and make one amazing catch.

There was no wrong way. It was a busted play, TB started scrambling, DA took his route outside and then curled around behind the man covering him and came open inside.

Did I tell you guys that Amendola is my favorite Patriot receiver.:p:D Lets hope last night game kick starts Danny's career as a good possession WR. Ps. I have just about given up on Aaron Dobson why he cannot see the field is beyond me at this point. I hope he's not another waste of a Second Round WR selection!

Dobson is injured, competing with Tyms for reps as the #4 WR. IMHO, there is no reason to give up on Dobson. He may or may not contribute during the duration of his rookie contract. In any case, as a backup, he is not very expensive going forward.

Who is saying getting one catch is the standard around here? Making catches like (clutch 3rd down conversiona or TDs) that are though.

I was thinking that Kennan Allen and Terrance Williams and even Markus Wheaton would have been Great Third Round picks they are worlds ahead of Dobson at the moment.

So, I made a joke in the Tyms thread the other day:

You guys do know that because you're all excited about him and making a fuss he's doomed to be inactive and Amendola will put up an 11 catch 150 yard 2 TD performance, just to **** with everyone, right?

The entire purpose of our offense is to **** with any potential fantasy owners picking up one of our players. BB hates stats!

It wasn't to those extremes but found it kind of funny after the fact.

The more I think about the above statement, the more impressed I become. This is going to be a championship offense before this season is over. The OL is SLOWLY being solidified. There truly is no #1 WR....and that's a good thing. We have not only great depth at receiver, but with lots of different skill sets to match up to various situations. I think we'll be OK at RB with Vareen, Boldin, Gray, and maybe even White will prove me wrong and become a player.

I think we finally saw the quickness that made us sign Amendola in the first place. But but unlike Welker who spent several years as Brady's go to guy, Amendola is now just one of may possible good choices for Tommy. So while his personal stats are unlikely to meet our over inflated expectations, his contributions to the success of the team's offense could make him well worth his presence on that team

Sadly, this could be Amendola's only shining-moment of this season.

:(

Saw a tweet, just about everyone got a catch today EXCEPT for Amendola. I believe he still has skills, coaches need to get him involved somehow.

True, I was thinking on that reverse to Edelman that went for 8 or 9 yards it could've gone to Amendola, I mean anything. I pretty much expect nothing out of him but might as well do whatever they can to get him involved. Maybe let him do some returns

Hey we called it 5 days ago brother :D Get the ball in his hands a couple times somehow [in last night's case returning kicks] and it just might've helped get the ball rolling.
