Seattle Seahawks trade WR Percy Harvin to the Jets

This move is simply to boost PSL sales.
Look at all Jets moves in that context and it makes more "sense" in a twisted kinda way.

There are 2 issues: Harvin's character and his forecast production.

The cost to the jets for the rest of the year is about $6M plus the draft pick which "should" be tied to whether he is on the 2015 roster. I suspect that this is money well spent. He will get fans interested in the 2014 team, will sell seats and other stuff.

The jets have an option to continue paying Harvin $10M a year or so, ask him to restructure or cut him.

Seattle has cut its losses and wants to move on. They will save the $6M for the rest of 2014 plus $10.5M in 2015 cap room, and secure a draft choice.
=======

I don't know the details of Harvin's character issues or health. As I said, I don't see a lot of downside for the jets. To state the obvious, if he had been playing last night, we might very well have lost.

Two teams unload him in his prime and the Jets think they can handle him? The only thing I can think of is they think he'll help free Decker. But... who is throwing them the ball? Watch as Geno passes fall a few feet away from him and he starts complaining... The Jets are done if they lose two more games, so clearly they're thinking about next year? Or the GM is thinking about signing a big name to buy himself time?
Yes, just maybe the GM and coach would like to buy some time. As it was, either could be fired at any time.

Jets had 22 million in cap space. I hate the Jets as much as anyone, but I don't think this is a bad move for them. They get a very talented yet overpaid utility guy who will help their return game, passing game and running game. If they can get him to restructure its a good deal, they got him for practically nothing.

Very talented is a vast overstatement.
He wasn't helping Seattle's passing game what makes you think he would help New York's?
If you think Harvin is going to restructure after half a season with that joke of an organization, you are ill informed. Only way jests keep him is if they continue to overpay him.

Well this is interesting. I don't think it is a huge blow to the Seahawks but it hurts a little. He drew coverage when he was on the field and opened it up for others.

I am honestly thinking for the first time all year the Seahawks might not be the most likely SB rep from the NFC.

Seahawks team source: "Percy didn't want to be here. We accommodated him."

Value wise I don't think the Jets might have made out OK for his talents( Way too late for the trade though). But Harvins really feels like a head case. Great prototypical Jets trade!

@RapSheet: "This is one they’ve been considering for some time for a couple reasons. One, in the locker room."

So he's still a headcase and now he's joining the New Jersey circus, this will be fun.

Classic Jets move.

They're adding a highly injury-prone, prone to complaining (there's a reason he's on his 3rd team), bad lockeroom character WR with a huge salary to a 1-6 team whose playoffs chances for this year are already dead.

The absolute ceiling for this move is he stays healthy this year, helps the Jets finish 8-8 against a cupcake schedule and Woody Johnson decides to bring the whole gang back (Geno, Ryan, Idzik) along with Harvin's awful contract and gear up for what will be their 5th consecutive year out of the playoffs in 2015.

I was told “Go find a team picture from Super Bowl and you can still see part of the black eye Tate got from Harvin"

Yup, this is a Jets trade alright.

God forbid they finally figure out that bringing in a journeyman QB (think Carson Palmer) may actually allow them to compete. They never have a viable QB option. Even Sanchez was good enough to take them to the AFCCG two years in a row.

I was told “Harvin’s anger issues are just too much to deal with and he could single handedly bring down team chemistry”

saw that on twitter. those florida players have anger issues.

Harvin was more difficult to deal with last year than anybody knows. He has real trust issues with people. No getting it back once lost.

here is peter king. he loved percy harvin all yr last yr but since he is a huge carroll fan, he has changed track today.

Not to mention his anger management issues. Seattle finally got tired of it.

Kinda feel sorry for Ryan. Pretty sure this was the last thing he wanted, and as he has zero veto power, he'll have to make do with what his GM gives him.
