The Patriots vs Jets POST Game Thread

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Someone posted a very poor statistic, that happened to get shown multiple times during a review of the action later.

Maybe they meant the most for the Jets during that BB era?

Ninko has looked so out of place this year. Moving away from the line more might not be the worse thing to do, but who do you trust in his place?

Yes, quite possibly--although it wasn't worded that way.

It's not like it's that important. I remember seeing it during the live broadcast and questioning my wife (like she'd know, right?) by bringing up the DEN game from last year.

Later on during the post-game show, they replayed one of the plays that happened at the time when the statistic box was actually up on the screen previously during the game, so I happened to get 2 looks at it.

I hate to bring it up, but we do have a certain mid-round draft pick that was accumulated in the Mankins deal.

The trade deadline is approaching, and I'd have to imagine that there would be any number of players who may fit the bill on the DL. Then again, some will see it as a waste of a draft pick--and possibly rightfully so.

I just don't want to see a repeat performance of giving up an average of 130-140 yds per game like last season, that's all.

Maybe Siliga can come to the rescue (again).

Watching the safeties get washed out on the perimeter hopelessly trying to set the edge in a 4-2-5 is sheer awesomeness....

I hope to god Belichick learned his lesson from 2002 and buries the Big Nickel, never, ever to bring it back as a base defense ever again!

All the memories from that gawd-aweful base scheme from 2002 resurfaced tonight.

I'd have to imagine that he'll be quite a nice addition, although it isn't going to happen anytime soon IIRC.

I don't know if I was getting a different feed in the UK to you guys in New England but on my tv the stat box definitely said most in a game against the Jets.

Don't know how clearly it came across on TV, but I loved the loud booing when Dogkiller Ron Mexico made his cameo appearance during Gee-No!'s "injury" respite. I wonder if he gets the same greeting elsewhere.

I'd have to imagine that it'd be the same feed. That would be like me to see something posted twice and still come away with the wrong meaning ;)

Quite possible that @Deus Irae was correct. It was likely just vs. the Jets if it mentioned his entire career.

This is why I ask these kinds of questions, because there are people on the forum about 10x smarter than I am. Sad, but true.

The Patriots are probably going to need to get on the phone to every other team in the league in an attempt to find someone who can at least adequately replace Mayo.

It's always nice to win vs a divisional opponent specially vs the Jets! I really didn't expect the Pats to rout the Jets cos it's a divisional game. So I'm not at all frustrated on how this game went.

I'm just a little disappointed on offense last possession. I felt like they were playing to lose on those 3 consecutive running plays. Hope they can learn from this. Btw, that's a clutch block!

When can he come off the short-term IR? If I did the math right (out eight weeks), he will be back for the Lions game. Week 12. I think he started contributing to the Pats week 13 last season.

I really worry about stopping Forte. He's been unbelievable. He can run outside and inside all the same. He's the best receiving RB in the league too.

While it's always going to be a much higher percentage play to force them the entire length of the field without any timeouts, I do agree with you about not caring for the conservative approach.

One first down would have put the game away, so in that case I would have drawn a bunch formation to one side for a very safe kind of bubble screen with a couple of blockers out in front. If it's effective enough, it's game over due to picking up a first down. If not, it's just as safe as handing the ball off, and it keeps the clock moving.

What was horrible was the decision to pitch the ball to Vereen. We're going to pitch (and Brady kind of screwed the pitch up, to boot) but not try something like a bubble screen? It doesn't make sense to me, but there's a reason why I'm not a coach and they are! I would imagine that Belichick would stick with the conservative approach in about 9/10 cases.

I think it's something right around there, SC.

Since we're only going into week 8 next weekend, it seems like a long way off to me, and yes--I share enormous concerns over guys like Forte.

I got to see a lot of the action tonight close up and I can tell all of you who watched on TV this..

Hightower played hurt...he's about 75% I'd guess...he let up on hits he should have laid the wood on mutiple times and he looked heavy footed in pursuit.

Collins got blocked off his feet a few times, took some bad angles and essentially played barely adequate.

I got to talk the entire game with a couple of old timers with season's tickets down near the field. These guys know their football and we had a great time sharing thoughts during the game. One of the guys kept telling me " BB does this all the time, plays vanilla/no blitz in the first half...but he'll come out with the pressure in the 2nd half"...well, the Jets came out and rammed it right down the Pats throats with the team sitting in that damned vanilla D again.

I think they had a limited game plan, little time to devise anything other than filling the gap created by the Mayo injury and laid all their chips on Smith making mistakes. He didn't. THe Pats safety blitzed TWICE and blew Geno up both times...so ?...nah...let's go back to bend and break. They better figure out this LB lineup and fast.

Collins doesn't look 100% either. He went from flying around like an all-pro coverage backer to Steve Gregory. His strong point is obviously not the run, but he was extra ineffective tonight.

Happy we got the W and it was an enjoyable game. The Jets were the opposite of what I expected tonight. Their Dline wasn't so big and scary and it looked like we could even run on them if we wanted to. Geno, the guy who has a turnover in every game, played pretty much mistake free. Did the short week make Geno better or did the Jets just not have enough time to put in the usual bad plays in the game plan(things like the butt fumble don't just happen).

I have to say that Ninko was pissing me off for awhile. He was great last game, but basically horrible for most of this game. He was overaggressive and kept getting caught inside. After his talk w/ BB it got better but it felt like a lot of the damage had already been done.

He has looked a lot like the Carolina Panthers game Ninko and less like the Pittsburgh Steelers game Ninko. The defense is a little different this year. He's taken criticism for his lack of pressure. Maybe it got to him? No idea. But he has been horrid on containment and he's taking angles that would make Troy Polamalu shake his head in disgust. I've always been a big cheerleader for him, so I am biased, but I really think he will go back to the guy that picked his spots and did his job with discipline against the Bears.
