The Patriots vs Jets POST Game Thread

Almost half the fans around me left after they missed the 2 pt conversion..like it was over....1/4 of the stadium filed out..like all over. It was far from over!

Stayed till the end having a heart attack but we won. I knew it wouldn't be a blow out. 5-2 baby F the jets

The Jets kept things really close against the Broncos less than a week ago. Manning had his quietest game of the season.

I didn't see any way that this game wasn't going to be a total dogfight.

In the past 6 years where we've played the first of two vs the NYJ, we've lost 3 and won 3 (by two, three, and three). All six of those first meetings have been very close, with the exception of the 14-28 loss that we experienced either in 2009 or 2010.

Easily one of the top 3 players of the game tonight.

Not only a spectacular (and clutch) TD grab, but injected life into the KR role for the Patriots and made the equally clutch diving snag of the onside kick late in the game.

I don't think there's any doubt that Amendola is incredibly tough, gives his all, and is very gritty. Hopefully the new KOR role will allow him to get charged up a bit. He's played it before, and played it very well.

Good call, Bill.

Although YPC tonight was good, YPC ISN'T the end-all. The reason to run it more than just 27% of the time is to better set up the pass. This is what happened, in particular against Buffalo last game where the YPC was lousy, but McDaniels used it consistently as body blows that set up the head shots.

I wont argue against any of that. I'm a big fan of a running team running the ball. I've always liked to think of the Patriots as a team that makes running the ball a priority. Brady needs the threat of the rushing attack to get those deep routes open.

tB has won 41 strait home games vs afc east

Pretty obvious where the issue was tonight, run defense. I, and others, called it the key item for the Patriots and that ended up being an understatement. It seemed the Jets' success on the ground was assisting mightily in opening the middle up for pass completions. It bears serious watching to see what can be done to improve the run defense.
Notable items:
- Amendola looked extra aggressive on KRs. If this is what can be expected from him on KRs then he has officially won that job. Kudos for him on several plays including the game winning catch on a less than great throw.
- OL, my second biggest concern behind the rush defense, held up relatively decent in pass blocking. Jets moved away from the rush only 4 (something teams had been having success with) and blitzed more based on, IMHO, the OL successfully containing the rushing only 4. It was far from perfect but it is improving. Liked seeing Devey have some fire in him.
- Brady was overall effective. JE with two drops right in his hands (one happens, two is no damn good!) -- one of those was going to go for a significant gain. Brady had some accuracy issues at times but definitely got it done when it was needed.
- I'm a bit perplexed on why Wright isn't being put in the pass-play mix more. Is he hurt? In the dog house?
- I SUPER appreciate the Refs, considering last year's abomination for calling a newly minted/never before called penalty right on a last second game deciding play, following that up with multiple calls on the Patriots that were not even handed (either call it tight like that on both teams or not at all). Several replays were almost comical for what you see the penalty call is for, only to see other replays where these, and other, "penalties" are happening commonly.

With that said, a win is a friggin win! I'm happy!! As others have correctly pointed out this was a division game against an arch rival (an arch rival that was desperate for a win and would play with extra abandon).

Wins are like sex and pizza, even when they're bad they're still pretty good.

???

Gronk missed 2 catchable passes. Edelman also missed two.

Amendola TD reception and both Vereen TD receptions........

You get some and you lose some.

Brady was very good tonight. He would have been Buffalo-good with a more balanced attack where he could have sold play action as a threat..

In the meantime 41-19 TOP inbalances hurt the team more with a D missing IT'S QB.

Gameplanning was a rout in favor of Rex Ryan over Bill Belichick tonight. Thank goodness the Patriots have enough of a talent surplus to overcome that.

The Vereen TD pass was on the money. Go back and watch it again. Watch what Vereen does. That's where the issue was.

Deep secondary, shallow LB depth?

I don't think the depth dictated the game plan. When Mayo got hurt, we plugged Skinner in there last week the rest of the game.

You are certainly entitled to you own analysis. Brady seems to think that Vereen made a great catch, and implied that he might have thrown it a bit better.

It is good to have at least one LB available in case of injury. If we played Skinner, no one but special teamers would have been available. If Skinner was to be used in the base, then I think that Fleming would have been activated as a backup LB.

Brady always says things like that, as you know. Go take another look at the play.

Coincidental that Chris Jones ends up blocking the FG to win the Jets game after having that ******** call on him in last year's OT meeting?

I think not.

I would have to assume that the odds of winning an even turnover game where one barely gets into the 19:00 minute mark for TOP is remarkably low.

I'm guessing less than 10 percent at best.

Regular season--of course.

Definitely an impressive statistic. I believe they are in the 30s as well vs ALL AFC teams when Brady starts.

Even Brady said that it was a great catch and that he thought he led him too far.

(Post Edit: I see that Mgteich has informed you of that too)
