The Patriots vs Jets POST Game Thread

the run defense was hilariously bad. for a 2nd i thought ivory was jim brown. they did well in the 4th i suppose. still it's very worrying that geno ****ing smith moved the ball down the field at ease. third down defense is straight up trash.

offense was good. 27 points in 19 minutes is decent

Yeah, it makes sense when you have Seymour, Ty Warren, and Vince pushing the pocket. But we don't have that kind of push anymore it just results in a lot of easy completions. Thankfully they realized that by the 4th quarter and finally started to play aggressive, but it was nuts to see that read and react zone defense for 3 quarters.
Yes but BB plays %s defense. Let them repeat plays and hope they make a mistake. In 40 mins of TOP the jets didnt do too many stupid things which is what he was hoping.

Here is the only thing i will take away from this game as something that mattered (besides the W)

The offensive line play was pretty good again. Not perfect by any stretch but solid. I think everything else I saw doesn't matter much but this was a perfect excuse game for the OL to look like crap and it didn't.
Dont know about that. Jets just pressured 3 most of the time. Even then brady did get flushed out a few times and had to make plays. I thought Rex missed a trick by not pressuring more. He was too worried about his secondary. If BB had run this plan vs another QB we wouldve been killing patricia .

Except when Denver faces weak division foes like Oakland last year and KC the year before. Then they are blowouts.

This division opponent excuse has become tiresome. Good teams blow out poor opponents regardless of whether or not they are within the division - especially at home.

I was speaking of the AFCE. But go ahead and troll about since you know so much about how the NFL works. Like the saying goes, "On Any Given Sunday". Every game poses matchup problems for both sides. The really tiresome posts and comments are the ones on this board that usully follow a Patriots game. If they lose, then the trolls are out in full force calling for Coach's head on a pike. If they win, then no matter the score the trolls will still find something to complain about. Take you, for example.

Coach Belichick once sagely remarked that the only stat that matters is the number of wins you collect. I agree with that completely.

While I agree that Brady had a few blatantly dropped balls, this is quite frankly true of most QBs in most games. For example, possibly a different game if Jace Amaro doesn't drop the world's easiest catch.

Both teams had drops, so that's irrelevant.

Chris Ivory had a really good game against the Detriot Lions too. A much better run defense. It's not crazy for someone like that to expose a coverage linebacker and a sluggish interior line. Siliga and Hightower will have to be used in ways that help stuff those runs. I'm sure the team wont sit around allowing teams to gash them to death. They found a way last year, when all hope was gone.

Ninko hasn't looked great this year. I think that has been a big issue that hasn't been talked about too much. He's always been a favorite of mine because of the way he contains his side, sets the edge and finishes off the coverage sacks. He's had trouble doing all those thing this year. I hope he can find his way. They said he was 'getting coached up' at one point. I bet BB is not happy with his play so far either.

Chandler Jones gets forced to the outside too much. He makes a full swing around the QB, never threatening him. Most the time, the QB doesn't bother to so much as step away from his pressure. He's got to mix it up, because he's getting nowhere on most drives.

Offensive play calling was a bit weird, but they moved the ball just fine. I think McDaniels and Brady had to pick their spots when it came to running the ball. You might look at the YPC and wonder why they didn't do more, but if they had, who's to say it would have worked?

Chris Jones getting the block was awesome. To think they lost a game because of an obscure, one-time only penalty to Jones on a FG against the Jets only a year ago..

Amendola's TD was equally awesome. He might not be the contributer everyone wants, but he is just as willing as Edelman to take damage for the cause. If Edelman happens to go down for a few games, we might all be very glad Amendola is still around.

Walker is the only DT getting any push, and it isn't exactly consistent. I hope that Wilfork is still in something of a recovery stage. He did suffer a pretty brutal injury, so that might be it. He didn't look good at the beginning of last year either, but he already had a foot injury at that point. Siliga can't come back fast enough.

Well I guess we can look at it this way...pats blew out the nyj 45-7 in prime time in 2011....what happened in the playoffs that season? so I guess blowouts don't mean much...maybe?

45-3.

A win is a win.

But help me understand a few things:
  1. Why did we play essentially a base defense of 2 LBs and 5 DBs (nickel)? We're playing against the worst starting QB in the league, yet we play a base personnel that encourages runs? Seems illogical.
Deep secondary, shallow LB depth?

Go find one complaint I had after the Bengals and Bills game. Go on. Do it.

Ugly win but I'll take it. Heartbreaking loss for the Jets. The blocked FG after Folk had made every kick that night previously made it all the SWEETER!! Eat it Jets fans!! LOL

Look ...... Between it being the jets and short week, a win is a win.....between the rbs and their ol, they played their best game and still lost

The only downer is that at lb, they have nothing but special teamers for depth

1) It can only be good news to win a division game and have no injuries. There are no downsides for me.

2) Welcome back Amendola! We now have a kickoff returner and a #3 receiver. Brady has 6 targets he can depend on: 3 WR's, 2 TE's and a RB. And yes, he also has backups than can catch an occasional pass or two: Tyms, Hooman, White and Dobson.

3) Let's welcome Gray to the 53 and to the position of 1st down RB. Perhaps, we'll see White in another game, or NOT.

4) Our makeshift OL did fine against a top DL, even with 2 starters plus a top backup out.

5) Chung (!) had a sack and looked good in coverage!

6) With 2 linebackers (and one backup), we ran the nickel all day, not thinking that the jets could beat us with the run. We were almost wrong. Obviously, the run defense needs to improve, but this was a coaching decision. And yes, Jones and Ninkovich didn't look good at all in setting the edge.

Before we criticize the defensive game plan too much, let's understand that the jets made zero errors on offense, and made many, many good plays in the run and passing game. That just happen for the 2014 jets.

.

Although YPC tonight was good, YPC ISN'T the end-all. The reason to run it more than just 27% of the time is to better set up the pass. This is what happened, in particular against Buffalo last game where the YPC was lousy, but McDaniels used it consistently as body blows that set up the head shots.

At least NFLN must be happy. This ends the Thursday Night massacres this season.

Easily one of the top 3 players of the game tonight.

Not only a spectacular (and clutch) TD grab, but injected life into the KR role for the Patriots and made the equally clutch diving snag of the onside kick late in the game.

The Jets kept things really close against the Broncos less than a week ago. Manning had his quietest game of the season.

The game last week went down to the final minute, IIRC. I think the score was 33-28.
