The Patriots vs Jets POST Game Thread

Brady was 54% throwing against a "bad secondary" which was dropping 8 into coverage.

Good idea to run the ball more then?????

Jets might have the worst secondary in football. running the ball on them plays right into there hands.

First game without mayo and Ridley showed. OL still needs Connolly and stork back.

Whoever thought this would be a blowout is dumb. A 1-5 division rival playing for their coaches job is what we saw. We saw a desperate team that three everything at us they had.

Dola was productive and clutch at the end.

Average game for the offense.

Defense didn't play as well but again, loss of mayo and addition of browner.

Great job to escape with the W and get 3 days of rest.

Really think they should have run Gray a little more. Hopefully going forward they ride him a little just to see what they have.

Bradys coat at his presser is terrible...

Here is the only thing i will take away from this game as something that mattered (besides the W)

The offensive line play was pretty good again. Not perfect by any stretch but solid. I think everything else I saw doesn't matter much but this was a perfect excuse game for the OL to look like crap and it didn't.

First, Brady was pretty damn good again. Missed a couple balls high, but other than that was great.

Vereen still looks tentative hitting the hole, but was better tonight.

Gronk is Gronk. BEAST

LaFell is a lot quicker on the field than a lot of us thought I think.

JE drops were almost extremely costly, but he had the big catch and spin down the stretch.

OLine played pretty damn good. I loved the Devey retaliation for Brady getting hit late. Why do they continue putting Cannon at T? Slow and soft is not a good combo for a OT.

Defense was just bad enough to win if you know what I mean. Wilfork was a bright spot. Hightower sniffed out a couple of runs. Nink was BAD.

Is it just me or does it show how good Revis is that he allows 3 targets for 42 yards and we think he struggled?

Exactly!
Playing without 2 of the 5 starting OL, the best RB, and the best LB, on 3 days prep. Getting this win was great!

What a weird game.
  • Multiple drops by Gronk and Edelman. (Key Jets drops too)
  • Revis letting Geno get those extra yards early in the first really pissed me off.
  • Brady let a couple sail early, but was otherwise sharp. He's been moving well in the pocket this year.
  • Run D needs some serious fixing.
  • **** playcalling on the final offensive possession.
  • OL was pretty good for the most part.

Definitely with you on the Revis play. That said, it seemed like the second/third guy in was laying up repeatedly tonight. How many times did ivory leg pump for extra yards while the late man in put his hands down on him and backpedal?

Surprised nobody has mentioned Walker. Thought he played a hell of a game today, he also makes the the 34/43 hybrid make much more sense with Jones/Jones/Vince and Siliga(sp?) coming back. Vince and either of the big body candidates (walker!) with Chandler and Nink outside make for a good hybrid front. You can "respectfully" run a 3 front with either end dropping, and can certainly run a 4 assuming we have LB help. You could also theoretically jump to a heavy 42 with some of the mixes of personnel...

Chung was mediocre(at best) with his lb duties tonight. Against the run he seemed poor (with Collins seemingly the reason tonight), but against the pass he proved a decent rush option.

Collins. I hope he still isn't healthy. While decent against the pass, repeatedly he looked awful against the run. One play in particular, dline contains, Hightower blows up his gap, and Collins gets blown up by 44. I don't know if 44 is a TE or a FB, but God Damn was that pathetic. In hindsight, that may have been the play he was grabbing his hammy after...either way, the kid needs to heal up, quickly.

Well I guess we can look at it this way...pats blew out the nyj 45-7 in prime time in 2011....what happened in the playoffs that season? so I guess blowouts don't mean much...maybe?

A win is a win.

But help me understand a few things:
  1. Why did we play essentially a base defense of 2 LBs and 5 DBs (nickel)? We're playing against the worst starting QB in the league, yet we play a base personnel that encourages runs? Seems illogical.
  2. Did they watch any films and see how much Geno struggles when defense put pressure on him and make him make quick decisions?
  3. Why did our CBs play soft and give their WRs clean releases? The Jets have an even worse WR corps than us, yet the technique our CBs used suggested we played speed burning playmakers. Besides, our CBs play better when they are allowed to bump and run.
  4. Why did it take 3 quarters to realize a read and react defense is just not the best way to utilize the personnel that we have?
I can't really gripe about our offense. Some of McD's playcalling is still awful. But Brady makes up for it and they played pretty well and executed in the Red Zone.

Collins is HORRIBLE defending the run in between the tackles. Skinner should have been out there in the middle. Hightower playing the strong side and let Collins play the weakside and let him use his athleticism.

Pats need some healthy linebackers who can play immediately.

I hope the terrible run defense was part scheme and not something that continues to be that horrid. Sucks have 2 of your top 3 run defenders on IR or IRR.

Somehow this is BB's idea of defending running QBs. The CBs give WRs clean releases is part of the zone coverage where they dont want to man up and let geno run .
This is BB's style of defense for a long time. They missed mayo big time. The swapping of hightower and collins was an important switch.

Shmessy, their were probably 4 plain drops and 4 throw aways. Brady could have easily been 24/37= 64%, then 28/37 would be 76%. Context plays a role. Use it without talking out your rear end.

While I agree that Brady had a few blatantly dropped balls, this is quite frankly true of most QBs in most games. For example, possibly a different game if Jace Amaro doesn't drop the world's easiest catch.

I have nothing be good feelings after this game. The Jets played their best game. They dominated the TOP (40 mins to 20 mins), had no Turnovers. Also got some help from the zebras on some ticky tac calls. Gronk and Edelman had some key drops and yet we still found a way to win. That is all that matters. Especially with the brutal stretch of games we have coming. We need to just pile up the wins, and go home.

I'm good with it. Division games are always dogfights.

Except when Denver faces weak division foes like Oakland last year and KC the year before. Then they are blowouts.

This division opponent excuse has become tiresome. Good teams blow out poor opponents regardless of whether or not they are within the division - especially at home.

There are no BAD wins in anything. Just my opinion.
Agreed. If only we could fully relive '03/'04 in real time via messageboards (scary!)...there's ugly wins in there. There seems to be a deference towards thinking everything has to be a dominant win or its worthless. You win all the games you can, however it happens. Then you try to win more in January. Some are 45-3, some are 27-25. That's the NFL. Problems in October aren't always indicative of postseason struggle, just as winning 52-7 in October doesn't guarantee you a SB win. The '06 Colts were historically bad in run defense heading into the playoffs. Their Lombardi trophy is the same size as all the others. Cliches abound, you are what you're record says...Pays are 5-2. Who would've turned that down? #ontocutlerhellprobthrowlike6picksimeanshititscutler

Yeah, it makes sense when you have Seymour, Ty Warren, and Vince pushing the pocket. But we don't have that kind of push anymore it just results in a lot of easy completions. Thankfully they realized that by the 4th quarter and finally started to play aggressive, but it was nuts to see that read and react zone defense for 3 quarters.

No, it would have been idea to catch the ball.

Personally, I prefer a tough win over a blowout. Any team can have a bad game and lose horribly. Beating the teams that are playing well on any given night is more impressive imo.
