The Patriots vs Jets POST Game Thread

Needed that one.

2-1 once through the division is much better than 1-2. 4-2 in the AFC and 5-2 overall is not a bad place to be.

I will rejoice. They won. Amen!

Now they got a mini break before the Bears game.

F for the defensive game plan, talk about awful. Made the game much closer than it should have been. Hopefully the short week was why the scheme was very vanilla.

Couple of bad drops by Edelman and another catchable one put down by Gronk, bar that the passing game was pretty good again.

Posted in the first half the Jets would have a kick blocked and it happened.

Amendola gets a game ball; good returns, recovered the onside kick and his TD was an excellent catch.

Now the coaching staff have 10 days to find the running game, teach the defense how to tackle and prepare for the Bears.

And, as always....the Jets suck!

Never want to see that gameplan by Belichick again. Russell Wilson doesn't play for the Jets, Geno Smith does. I'm relieved they won and got the **** out of Dodge because I would have been livid if we lost. Luckily I don't have to break something tonight. On to Chicago..

Woo, I'm jacked up! I kept saying "it'll be alright" in the game thread even though things sometimes looked bleak, especially at the very end, but I was right!

Honestly I'm fine with it. The team had some really tough injuries hit just a few days ago, what with Mayo and Ridley and the O line, and on a short week anything can happen. A win is a win, they pulled it out, it wasn't pretty but they did it and they ripped Rexy's heart out along the way.

I thought the game would be a slog and it turned out to be a slog, though I wasn't particularly happy with any aspect of the game. On offense, any attempt to establish a run game was conceded early on, and there were drops and bad passes all over the place. Even on the touchdown passes, Vereen and Amendola bailed Brady out. Not that Brady had a bad game (and it would have been better if not for drops by Edelman and Gronk) but he wasn't particularly good either, and the inability to convert on 3rd and short is still killing this team.

On defense, I'm sure others will have much more vulgar critiques but the run defense was bad and the passing defense against arguably the league's worst quarterback was surprisingly bad. Jamie Collins is a safety in a linebacker's body and shouldn't be on the field except on passing downs (and even then it feels like he reacts to the snap a second later than everyone else) and Logan Ryan is awful and shouldn't be playing at all (seriously, you have Revis, Browner, Dennard, and Arrington - why is Ryan out there?). Ninkovich had a great game, Chandler Jones was up and down, and Wilfork and Hightower were keys. But you can't play a 4-2-5 and expect to survive, though I do think the Jets rushing attack with Ivory especially is underrated. They did get hit with a few bad penalties (especially Browner), but that's par for the course in today's NFL.

Amendola might be this year's Blount, who was lost in the early going but found a niche on kickoff returns and ultimately contributed in the second half and playoffs. The fan narrative about Amendola is that Brady doesn't trust him but that huge hug he gave him about the touchdown and the Belichick unabashed praise of him in the press conference strikes me differently.

Dobson must really suck. Last year's draft of Dobson, Collins, Harmon, Boyce et al looks pretty abysmal as of right now.

The good news is the long week before the next game lets them heal up. They'll have Connolly and Stork back, and Hightower should be fully healed.

My favorite part of Thursday Night Football was when the Patriots abandoned almost everything that had worked well these past two weeks and still managed to win because the Jets are the Jets.

Run D is a serious issue moving forward. Happy to get the win, not happy with the performance of the team (and coaches once again).

I agree that the run d is an issue but hopefully once Silgia gets back, it will improve.

Pass protection was overall very solid for the most part.

Thought Gray ran well with what little carries he had. Hope to see more out of the kid.

Vereen was dynamic tonight.

Brady was very good and looking like his old self 3 weeks in a row. If the defense played anything what it was capable of Brady probably could of put up 50 tonight.

The TOP was a huge factor in keeping this game close and hats off to the Turds for even being in this game. The run d was disturbing and the containment on the edges was terrible. Hopefully that was due to the short week but I hope the Pats play better moving on in those areas.

As bad as the D looked tonight huge kudos to holding them to 4 field goals in the first half. That may have been the difference in this game. Besides the blocked kick.

I liked the penalty Devey took for his QB. Should of been a flag initially and it wasn't. I'm glad he did what he did and stood up for his guy. **** them.

Amendola missing persons report has been called off. He is alive and well.

Brady post game on NFLN. All class. Dont know how people call him soft or without fire. He is as focused and himself said he has been pissed for 15 yrs. .. Just awesome.

What a weird game.
  • Multiple drops by Gronk and Edelman. (Key Jets drops too)
  • Revis letting Geno get those extra yards early in the first really pissed me off.
  • Brady let a couple sail early, but was otherwise sharp. He's been moving well in the pocket this year.
  • Run D needs some serious fixing.
  • **** playcalling on the final offensive possession.
  • OL was pretty good for the most part.

Feels like we're the worst 5-2 team and the jets are the best 1-6 team. I'll take it though. A victory is hard especially after a div game on the road and a short week with 2 major injuries to starters. We'll regroup this week and evaluate our roster. Then adjust. I hope Tim wright gets some help learning the playbook. I can't understand why he wasn't in more especially since the jets LBs can't cover anyone.

Wow...lots of burping butterflies and farting rainbows after ONE OF THE WORST IF NOT THE WORST offense/qb went up and down the field at will and gashed the pats...last week's good feelings should be tempered after this game... they gotta do soemthing with this defense or it'll be the same ending as the last 10 years....

Not happy with this at all. I'm not buying the "it was only a 4 day week" excuse either. It was 4 days for the Jets as well. And I'm sure an extra 3 days wouldn't have made that garbage game planning on D any better. The basis of it would've been the same I'm sure.

Again, it's so frustrating to watch and the coaches should be embarrassed with the terrible defense they're putting on the field considering the elite talent on all 3 tiers. The inconsistency is unacceptable.

Only positive is how well Brady can move in the pocket and keep the play alive. I'd love to see that some more. He bailed out Belichick and McDaniels with some clutch throws.

We beat a divisional team with less than 20 minutes on the TOP....

Not many teams could do that.

That is a strategy that McDaniels seems to love - - abandon the run. It does not work. Look at what happens when they do that - - Miami game, Oakland game, KC game and NYJ game. And don't anyone try the "well that's what teams do when they are trying to come from behind in a game" because in 3 of 4 of those games they were ahead at the half.

A win is a win. And the Jets are much better than 1-5. The defense was disappointing but you have to like the play of Brady. He was amazing. Now with 10 days to get the house in order, hopefully they play better against the Bears.

Defensive gameplan sucked. They shut the Jets down when they got aggressive but didn't play the way for almost 3 quarters of the game. Offensive gameplan was decent until the last drive when McDaniels did a good impression of Joe Philbin against the Packers. Bottom line is that it's a win. Take it and get the **** out of there.
