Now, let me start by saying I don't think that we sign any of these. But I want to know who do you think ends up on a new team, who weakens or strengthens our greatest opponents?

Here's the list of "top tier" names:

Wes Welker
Reggie Wayne
Demaryius Thomas
Torrey Smith
Sidney Rice
Hakeem Nicks
Jeremy Maclin
Jermaine Kearse
Michael Crabtree
Dez Bryant
Nate Washington

A couple "close to home" names (that I think we resign) would be:

Bryan Tyms
Matthew Slater

Who do you see making a splash that is relevant to our team? If the Jets continue their current course for the season I find i hard to believe that they don't sign at least one of the names. I can't see Thomas or Bryant leaving their respective teams, Bryant has been reported as potentially signing a deal before the season started, so barring a setback, it is just on hold, and Thomas is just too important to Peyton if he doesn't retire. Maybe the Jets make a move on a guy like Torrey Smith or Crabtree to pair with Decker and their top 5 QB draft pick.

Again, outside of Slater and Tyms I find it very difficult to picture one of these guys playing for us, but I also have no issue imagining us facing off against any of the other names in 2015 unless Sandiego wins their divison (We're scheduled to face Bryant and the Cowboys in 2015).

Who do you think we see?

Just to boil the list down some more:

Sidney Rice is retired.

I don't see Welker coming back. He isn't the type of receiver we need, and he didn't leave on the best terms.

Reggie Wayne will probably stay with Luck. He's old and probably doesn't want to learn a new system when he already have a top QB.

The name that sticks out to me is Demaryius Thomas. It will never happen, but I'd love to stick it to the Donkeys . ..

If Dobson progresses, we won't be in the market for a receiver though

Per @Miguel, Tyms is already under contract through 2016.

The Broncos have a real dilemma on their hands. They have both Thomases and Welker as free agents next year. Both Thomases are going to demand top of the market deals. They can only franchise one of them.

Elway was stupid to not re-sign Julius Thomas before this season. He is not only on pace to break Gronk's TD record for TEs, but Moss' TD record for any receiver. He is going to get more than Jimmy Graham got.

Yep. And what makes this even more delicious is that Julius Thomas is nowhere near the level of Gronk or Graham. He is the player that benefits the most from Manning in the Denver offense.

The Broncos will have to overpay relative to his skill level to keep him. Works for me..

I wouldn't expect much knowing how we are with WR signings. But I think Maclin and Kearse would be good fits here. Nate Washington wouldn't be bad either.
Let's see how Dobson and Amendola finish the season though

Wes Welker - no
Reggie Wayne - no
Demaryius Thomas - yes
Torrey Smith - no
Sidney Rice - retired
Hakeem Nicks - no
Jeremy Maclin - yes
Jermaine Kearse - yes
Michael Crabtree - maybe
Dez Bryant - yes
Nate Washington - no

Note that Bryant and Thomas will cost too much. Maclin will get paid, too, but not as much as them.

Kearse is a guy that screams "Patriots free agent acquisition" to me. And I think he would probably be pretty good here too.

The Pats will not sign any of these players but instead sign the WR that another team cut when they signed one of these receivers.

Welker has nothing left and is one concussion away from the end anyways.

I wouldn't mind that. He definitely got his name out there with his SB play, I think he'd be a good #3/4 here behind Edelman and LaFell and, hopefully, Dobson/Tyms.

The concerning thing is that Seattle is ranked 31st in passing offense and no receiver has hit 200 yards after 5 games, but I guess that is to be expected when Wilson is averaging only 28 attempts per game.

He's really one of the only viable names for NE to look at.

Man would I love to see a team like the Raiders open up their check books and sign away the Bronco's WRs for Carr. I really want to see their off season spending come back to bite them.

I mentioned this is a thread about Amendola not too long ago as well.

Assuming Dobson works out which I think he will. And Tyms can continue to do what he has shown then you have 4 guys locked up for a while Edelman, Lafell, Dobson, Tyms.

Those 4 + Gronk/Wright/Vereen are enough "headline weapons".

You don't need another play maker or solid B option. You are just look for a 5th guy for competent depth. I don't want the Patriots to spend more FA money on a WR when they could use it on LB, DE or OL where the needs are bigger.

Give me a guy you can bring in on the vet minimum. That is not incompetent (a Collie like player) and I am set.

I'm good with Edelman Dobson Tyms Lafell would like to see us try to trade for Kniles Davis from KC or Isiah Crowell from Cleveland.
Danny A should be served up in trade talks.
At receiver I wish we never let Andre Holmes out the door but that was a huge miss by the coaching staff.
Wish I knew who to blame.
I would send a pick for either Cecil Shorts the third or Justin Hunter but I have high hopes for Tyms.
Stealing Demaryius Thomas from Denver would be priceless.
But way to costly and improbable.
At linebacker what about a player like Sio Moore absolute beast and Oakland is a fire sale waiting to happen.
This would cost at the lowest our 4th.
I would also like to bring Brooks Reed to the Pats on the way via trade.
Who wouldn't do Danny A for Reed straight up if it was a shred of a possibility?
Offensive line? I think if Stork can stay healthy he can develop into a top tier center. Vollmer is solid Solder has regressed at a ridiculous rate.
So what Tackles could be out there and available?
What about Michael Roos? Titans need picks to rebuild which I would call the Titans about Morgan, Roos, Hunter.
Oakland I would call about Moore they won't part with Holmes.
Just some mid level trade shopping.

Any of the top guys would help our opposition. As a few bloggers have mentioned, I don't expect WR to be a priority.
I do hope the Patriots continue to draft a wide receiver and sign a free agent or two. Despite their lousy record for
obtaining WRs, they might get lucky.

I've pretty much lost all hope this year for Dobson, so he goes into his 3rd year as an unproven/unknown. Thomas would be an awesome signing, he's gonna get 15+ mill a year though, so my guess is they put their money towards signing Revis.

you might as well add Revis to the list. I know technically he has another year but I don't think anyone here thinks he will see that unmodified..
