The Bills board, official "The Refs screwed us" thread

Are you talking about the Edelman PI? He was shoved to the ground before the ball even arrived. There wasn't anything ticky tack about that.
No, that one is about as blatant as it gets.

From Ben Dreith and "Roughing the Passer" through Walt Coleman and the Karma balancing "Tuck" call, and hundreds of questionable calls in between and since, I long ago accepted that bad calls and bad bounces are just part of the game and that, in the long run, they even out.

Why? Because I decided that the alternatives were either to become a conspiracy nut, get a tin foil hat or just drive myself crazy.

I appreciate your equilibrium and I've tried to do that myself. The one thing that I remain convinced of is that, in the days when Polian and Manning were the key figures in Indianapolis, there was a strong pro-Colts bias in the refereeing -- at least as evident in their games against other opponents as in the games with the Pats. I put it down to the way in which Polian would bombard the NFL. At any rate, I couldn't watch their games. The refereeing of the Pats this season has been pretty horrible, but, compared to that, I think I can live with it.

I wish that old Patriots opponents excuse generator website was still around.

Always so realistic! LOL

I thought the refs were pretty bad on both sides. We got a couple of fortunate calls, but they could not stop TB

Hey Bills fans...LIFE screwed you...refs had nothing to do with it.

There were bad calls on both sides. Calls the Bills got we would have yelled at the refs just like they did and vice versa. It's a league wide problem, I think mostly because of the emphasis on calling certain types of infractions. The slightest incidental contact is treated the same as the most severe form of contact. I don't know if the refs are afraid of being downgraded for a call that they end up calling everything.

One thing I don't understand is when an offensive player like a WR or RB has the ball. he can stiff arm a defender in the head with enough force to knock them down but a Defender is hardly allowed to touch an offensive player in the head area.

Basically agreed. Everyone has their beefs. If you listened to fans around the league in 2008-09, there was plenty of griping about how quickly the NFL adapted the "Brady rule" after he was knocked out for the season on opening day, when other QB's had gone down with similar injuries in the past without any change to the rules. As with everything else, we all "stand where we sit." Personally, I always thought that Polian was just doing his job, advocating for his team. Over the top? Sure, at times, but he was looking out for his own.

Or even grab their facemask.

The only problem is, is that the "rule" was already in affect before TB was injured. It was just "A clarification of the current rule". If anything it should be called the "Palmer rule". I'm so sick of the "Brady gets all of the rules changed" BS. The same with the "The tuck rule was created because of Brady", when it was used in a Jest game earlier in that season.....http://www.boston.com/sports/footba.../brady_rule_steps_taken_to_protect_qbs_knees/. BTW, enjoy all of the "point of emphasis" rules this season, courtesy of his royal highness. But don't expect to hear anyone *****ing about that....http://clnsradio.com/new-england-pa...1-has-the-nfl-adopted-the-peyton-manning-rule

"Points of emphasis." Rule changes. Whatever. In the end, it's all a matter of "Where you stand is where you sit."

Some organizations might be a little more obvious about it, but, when you get right down to it, every organization has an obligation to look out for its own self-interest when it comes to lobbying for what they think can help their team, since every other organization is doing the same thing. I just think that people like Kraft and other "classier" owners are just more subtle and behind the scenes about how they do it.

In all fairness those offensive pass interference calls were real bad. Denver would become the first team in NFL history to be shutout for the entire season if they called every game like that. But they gave up a huge play every time the Pats got to 3rd and 20. They weren't stopping Brady that day so it didn't matter in the end.
