mankins with tampa

Guys, you are trying to discuss this with a poster who actually complained (about a month back) that the Pats dont spend over the cap, and the should...the cheap bastards LOL

So we like PFF when we trade a guy and they say he sucks but we hate PFF when they say Brady sucks?

Are we going to argue this all year? The people who hated the trade did victory laps after the KC game where the o-line did not perform great in a blow out (although wasn't nearly as bad as people made it). The people who defend the trade are now doing victory laps after the o-line played well vs. the Bengals and Mankins played like crap this past week.

I will say this, the Bucs are losers in this trade. They traded away future value to get better this year in a year their team is bad and have little shot to make the playoffs with or without Mankins. Teams like the Bucs should never make a trade like this because it provides no real benefit.

Time will tell if the trade works out for the Pats. If what we saw from Wright last week is a preview for what we will see for the rest of the season, it is big win for the Pats both short term and long term. That is even before the fourth round pick. If Wright averages 5 catches for 85 yards the rest of the way he will have 64 catches for 1055 yards for the season even after the slow start. I would assume it would be too much to expect he would average a TD a game the rest of the season, but he could have six or seven TDs by the end of the season.

Otherwise, all this arguing about Mankins is useless. He is gone. The Pats have to use what they have for better or worse. We should all just root for Wright to build on his last week performance and hope by the end of the year the Bucs fans are all complaining that the Bucs traded away Wright and a fourth for Mankins.

What Rob says. Only Double!

I don't enjoy debating in general because it's stupid, anyone who thinks "who can argue better" is a valid form of discussion is a silly goose.

This whole mankins discussion can be broken down simply as the following

Is Mankins better then devey?

Was Mankins going to be a patriot next year?

Is Mankins the integral kog that would bring a superbowl to the patriots this year?

The answers I have for those three questions are

Yes

No

No

Is no Mankins, better than no Hernandez replacement?

No.

Logan Mankins, LG, +1.3

Breakdown: Logan Mankins posted his first positive grade in a Tampa Bay uniform while also surrendering his first sack since moving on from the Patriots. The sack was the only bit of pressure he allowed in the game however and his run blocking was respectable.

Signature Stat: Surrendered one total pressure (a sack) on 45 snaps in pass protection

On a per season basis that would mean almost a sack a game, or 16 sacks per season. For perspective, some entire Offensive lines don't give up that many sacks per season.

For a even a poorly paid nobody like UDFA Devey, that would be totally unacceptable.

(AUDIO) Logan Mankins Is Hurting The Bucs O-Line << CBS Tampa

Greg Cosell from NFL Films and NFL Matchup was a guest on a Tampa sports talk radio station on Thursday October 16 to discuss the Bucs. At one point the discussion turned to Tampa Bay's offensive line, which was completely manhandled last week at home versus Baltimore. After mentioning that QB Mike Glennon had no space in the pocket to plant his feet due to poor protection from the o-line, Cosell had this to say:

"It's funny how Bill Belichick is usually not wrong about personnel decisions, because I got to tell you - and I'm just watching film - Logan Mankins is by NO means the player he once was. In fact, he's been in many games kind of a detriment at left guard. So you know, he's been an issue; the whole line has been an issue."

After that there was some insightful opinions on what Tampa Bay could do to counteract the effects of an ineffectual and struggling offensive line; significant considering the struggles New England has had with its o-line, and timely considering the injuries on the OL, about to face a team with a very good defensive line.

Question from host: is there something that the Buccaneers offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo can do play-calling wise to counter a pass rushing attack like that?

Cosell: "Well, then you start having to keep bodies in, you have start adding bodies to help with protection, because when you can't block, when five can't block four, you have a problem. So if you want to keep bodies in, because all of football is a numbers game, then you have fewer receivers being sent out into pass routes. But protection must come first; you have to start with protection.

The other thing that I would personally like to see with their pass game is more concepts. More stack, more bunch, more route combination concepts, that help their receivers and tend to define things for the quarterback quicker. They run a lot of isolation routes, and obviously when you have two big receivers in (Mike) Evans and (Vincent) Jackson, you're counting on them to be able to make contested catches - with the premise that they're 'open' even when they're covered. But to me, that's a tough way to live on a week-to-week basis."

There was more good insight afterwards as well, including how even though DE Michael Johnson is a good player, he was a bad fit for Tampa Bay's defense.

Living in Tampa I get to see these clowns first hand. The whole organization is a joke from the top down. They are the Jets of the south, and the only thing worse than the team is the fans. They ***** about all the blackouts over the years but will not go to the games. You can buy tickets for $20-30 and just move about the stadium as you please. The few people that do go just hang out by that stupid pirate ship where the bars/patio area are and get hammered.
