Rumor: Larry Fitzgerald to the Pats

Okay people, we need a lesson in thread titling. When a thread title states, "Rumor: AWESOME THING COULD HAPPEN!", I open it expecting to see a credible source that could at least give me hope.

In this case, the thread title should have just been a troll face.

I google'd it and it did come up but the news is 5 hours old so who knows.

One positive if this trade goes through is endless Fitzgerald butt talk on Felger and Mazz.

You do wonder if this can happen at some point in the next year or two, though. Maybe Arizona will cut ties with him at some point and he comes here as a FA. Could definitely see him ending up here in that kind of situation with all the talk we end up hearing every year.

Then again, I don't quite know what his cap situation is in Arizona and whether or not he'll be cutable in the near future.

talk about complete BS. This pops up every year. I will hit lottery before Fitz is on this team

OK. According to "Over the Cap", trading Fitgerald would cause them to take an additional $13.15 million cap hit this year. From what I can see, they don't have the cap space to do this.

So, it's not happening..

EDIT: So, could a mod Close this thread since there's no point in talking about this further....

Ya I'm gonna have to agree with you there. I wouldn't be surprised to see an older Fitzgerald in NE at some point. He's such a smart player he will probably be able to play from the neck up when his physical skills slip. Although, what I'm really looking for is the NEXT big thing at receiver, not the hottest thing from 04.

dunno why cards would do this, theyre a playoff contender. worse teams have won super bowls. would be a slap in the face to their fan base to trade him for a pick.

If we get him ala how Baltimore got Steve Smith this year, why not both?

I can see it now....

Patriots acquire
Larry Fitzgerald

Then it starts

1/3 forum: Why is Larry Fitzgerald of all people not going deep?

1/3 forum: Its Brady,the OL,Pick your coach

1/3 forum: He's learning the playbook

:)

Because we don't draft well at the position :(. I try to keep all my Aaron Dobson praise in the Aaron Dobson thread but I think we hit something with that pick.

He would fit a need for us and i'm confident he would do well. Floyd has passed him and he's more a possession receiver.

The idea in ARZ was for Floyd to take over the WR1 role, so at some point--yes, Larry Fitzgerald is going to be moved on from.

Of course, who knows when that point will be?

To say that he no longer justifies his cost would be an understatement.

Are you accusing me of being a bandwagoner? How do you know this team will contend for 10 more years with garappolo? You have one of the top 5 QBs of all time - load the deck in his last few years.

Nope, I was posing the question. I understand the win now attitude but I don't agree with the cost of what it would mean.

No, I'm not saying we will contend for ten years with Garoppolo however I think that we can build a solid team around a player like Garoppolo that can contend.

As I said it's not about Tom Brady and it certainly won't about Garoppolo or whoever else may replace Brady. 2008 showed us that life after Tom Brady can have a silver lining. It won't if we allow the rest of the team to suffer for the sake of giving Brady one bloody receiver.

We just moved Tyms up

To think, I thought Deus was evil.
This is far far worse.
Horrible thread title.

1.) Why would a 3-1 team like the Cardinals trade Fitzgerald?
2.) What would the Pats trade to the Cardinals?
3.) If Fitzgerald is willing to redo his deal, why not with the Cardinals?

FYI - He has a 8 million roster bonus due the 5th day of the 2015 League Year.

About as likely as signing Thor or Captain America. And with less upside (except for the fictional character part).

What are you talking about? We already have Captain America.

Personally, I think he may be a candidate to move prior to that 8 million dollar roster bonus due in March, Miguel.

The basic answer to your questions are that 1) Fitzgerald no longer justifies his salary, 2) Arizona has had success in moving Michael Floyd to their WR1 slot, 3) there have been lots of examples of people in the L.Fitzgerald "camp" who have not been happy about his lack of targets/production--most notably his father.

In a recent primetime game on Sunday or Monday night, they didn't even target Fitzgerald until 57:00 minutes into the game.

I think the writing is definitely on the wall to have ARZ move on from him, and I don't think it's a question of "if" anymore. The main question is whether we would be in the mix, and "when" he'll be moved in my opinion.

Of course, there may be financial implications that you know of that I am not taking into account.
