ABC News: Did Divine Intervention Help Tom Brady Sunday Night?

Status
Not open for further replies.
Why would someone or something intervene in order to have one of his/hers/it's entities come out on top of another?

I think the Patriot's just beat the Bengals because they worked harder, and that shouldn't be taken away from them.

Everything may be created equally, but that doesn't last past creation, it takes special mental and physical attributes that are earned through endless hours of study hard physical work to separate yourself from the pack over time. The Patriot's showed those attributes on Sunday night.

Not looking for a religious debate, I just don't like to see someones hard work be nullified by saying it was granted from somewhere else for a specific reason, whether it is in jest or not.

No, it was earned.

(also not a shot at CC in any way, before anyone thinks that, simply my opinion on the subject)

Wasn't Brady picked on a Sunday?

I've always used the fact that Giselle has a twin sister as proof that Brady has made a deal with the devil (cue the old Dan Marino skit). But maybe he just has God on his side.

All I know is back in 2004, he won his third Super Bowl on Sunday, was playing in the Bob Hope Pro Am on Monday, and married Giselle the next week. I'm just saying, if I were to make a deal with the devil for my soul, the payoff would look a lot like that week in Brady's life!

I never said what you are claiming I know in regards to Catholics. So please don't claim to know what I know in regards to Catholics.

Excerpt from this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholicism
"Many individual Christians and Christian denominations consider themselves "catholic" on the basis, in particular, of apostolic succession."

Brady and his family do believe in God. Thus, not only is he a great QB, but also a believer in God. I like Tom Brady and wish him and his family nothing but the best.

Now whether or not you or anyonelse believes in God is up to each individual person. Based on your post stating "the imaginary sky god". I can only interpret that as, YOU don't believe in God. Now that is your right to believe or not believe in God. All I ask is that you don't infringe on my right to believe in God and please don't claim to know what I know or feel in regards to catholics.

You stated that you don't feel this thread is interesting? Well NO one has forced you to come into this thread and discuss the topic. Nor did I say anything negative about Catholics. I come from a huge family with a few who considers themselves Catholics.

I never even called upon you by username until you quoted me. Nevertheless, Larryo if you don't believe in God that's fine. Again all I ask is just don't infringe on my right to believe in God and don't make accusations like I am condemning anyone because I am certainly not.

Some people in the United States DO believe in God and some people in the United States DO NOT believe in God. That what makes America great, freedom to believe or not to believe.

If you look on that U.S money you and others carry around in their pockets it says "in God we Trust".

I am going to quote supafly who is well known on this board and is a catholic. Supa posted this in another thread.
"For the record, as I've stated before, I am a confirmed Catholic--so we share the same kind of similar Christian beliefs, although I am not as open as you are about those beliefs."

I am going to quote mgteich who posted this exact quote in another thread

"Most players pray together before each game. I doubt that very many would be at all upset at ccat's comment: After that it is in God's hands to make sure all the players are in good enough health to perform at their best.

then mgteich continues with his thoughts below
In any case, our society and we as individuals are in serious trouble if the mere use mention of the word God is a flashpoint.
Shall we stop saying God Bless You when we sneeze. Shall we remove "In God We Trust"? Should we stop installing government officials with a bible?
I apologize for the rant, but the mere use of the word of "God" in a sentence shouldn't be objectionable anywhere in the US."

12 paragraphs. TLDR.

Only on patsfans does a thread featuring a video showing Brady's parish priest commenting positively on Brady's Catholic faith devolve into a discussion about deals with the devil...

As a practicing Roman Catholic (unfortunately don't get to mass every weekend but definitely more than the Christmas/Easter folks) who sends his kids to Catholic school this little bit of Brady info makes me like him even more...

I made the mistake of sticking with last year's lucky Tastykakes cream-filled swirly cupcakes and an 8oz Red Bull as a pre-game snack for the first 4 games. Sunday, I had Hostess cream-filled swirly cupcakes and a 12oz Red Bull.

New season, new cupcakes. Should have known. My fault Patriots players and fans alike, things will be clicking now.

Have you considered TastyKakes Krimpets??? A most worthy successor!!!

Your edgy opinions on Christianity must make you quite popular at Hot Topic.

Edgy? You either don't know what edgy means or don't get out and about around the Internet much if you think anything I've posted is edgy.
Don't post on Hot Topic forum.
Kind of cute you still worry about being popular.
Hopefully this gets moved or shut soon to make room for football discussion.

You could use the "Thread Ignore" tool...

Haha. That's laughable. A christian complaining about intolerance. Oh the ironing is strong with this one. You're either trolling or extraordinarily naive.

Here's a link for ya. 20 more years it will be even less. The dinosaurs are dying.

What was your point in coming into this thread?

When I first posted in this thread I mentioned what I believed in and how I thought this thread was interesting. I never condemned Catholics

Catholics have similar beliefs to Christians. Both religions are extremely similar and believe in the same God.

No one intially called you into the thread that you felt was not interesting. However, you had a clear purpose when coming into this thread and that was to belittle people like me because I believe differently than you.

You came in here quoting my post telling me your beliefs which is that God was imaginary, YOU accused me of condemning Catholics, and then YOU say this thread was not interesting.

So basically you came into this thread to quote me and tell me that YOU believe opposite of me, that this thread was boring, and YOU claimed that I am condeming Catholics. All your posts in this thread show that you have a problem with people like myself because I believe differently than you, that YOU feel Christians have something against Catholics, and then YOU link some article that claims Christians are declining in an attempt to belittle Christians. To me I see that as religous intelorence.

I have no issue with anyone stating that they're atheists, Hindu, Buddhist or whatever. However, I have a problem when someone does like what you did; seek a poster out to tell them that their belief in GOD was inaccurate, claiming to know what Christians know in regards to Catholics, and then claiming that Christians are going to be nearly gone in the future. The only purpose I see in YOU doing all that is to state that what Christians believe is wrong, for YOU to portray Christians as hateful(hence the condeming catholic comment of yours) and to claim that Christians are no good since they are as YOU claim disappearing. To me I see that as religous intolerance.

If you would have simply came into the thread and stated your personal beliefs on the topic without singling out and belittling Christians by making false claims about what Christians know, feel, believe, or how many Christians there will be in the future. Than I would have had no issue with your post even if you believe differently than me.

Tom Brady and his family are catholic and believe in God. Since YOU believe the opposite of those who are Christians/Catholics. Do you have a problem with Tom Brady?

I'd like to echo it's OK to self-identify your spiritual beliefs, but attacking the beliefs of others is going to lead to trouble.

It's worth repeating at an automotive forum, and the theme was drowned out by a number of members attacking religion almost hourly for five years. People like myself finally responded and religion at that forum was eventually banned as some members chose to be nasty about it. It's interesting to note most of the flamethrowers walked out soon after religion was not a permitted discussion topic.

Isn't it obvious that whatever ones beliefs are, they are not going to change on an online argument? The surest way to keep anyone from changing their mind is attack and ridicule. Salespeople and anyone in PR dealing with people knows you develop rapport and a relationship to bring people to your point of view.

One thing I've learned from nearly 15 years of forums is there are less people that are like you than are different from you....if you are going to attack them, prepare to be miserable.

Blessing to you all.

Anyway, I thought that was interesting... the priest mentioning Brady specifically. Also very sweet.

In the words of the famous comedian Artie Lange "Waaaaaahh". Wow your jimmies are easily rustled and it's hilarious.
You take yourself and your interneting way too seriously. WE'RE HERE! WE'RE QUEER!" GET USED TO IT!" no homo haha Not going to argue with a zealot. Should have just mocked religion like 20 the posts without quoting you and you wouldnt have been able to jump on your soap box.

Tim Tebow is not on the team any longer.
Good luck. It's been real.

I'm going to take the advice of the forum know it all and put this thread on ignore.

I agree that a football forum is not a place to attack a religion, but it's also not really a place to constantly enshrine it in the heart of all one's posts. It gets old after awhile and starts to sound preachy, and someone overly preaching (pushy) about it can be every bit as annoying as someone filing a suit against a school because the entrance way says "In God We Trust."

A lot of people respect religion but they don't need the pamphlet.

Attacking a religion sounds antagonistic and probably needlessly snarky, but constantly promoting one with an air of self-righteousness isn't the best fit for a football forum either. Just my opinion!

Suffice to say, if a Muslim poster was referencing Allah all the time, and praising Allah, and telling another Muslim poster how great it is to talk to them while so surrounded by heathens and infidels, well, that just wouldn't go over very well, which is why in general it doesn't go over very well.

Anyway, put me in the `Not Divine Intervention` camp. Tom can win his own games and God is probably busy with Ebola and the rise and fall of nations.

It was considered common Stage Coach etiquette way back in the 1800's when probably 99.9% of the fellow passengers you'd meet on a coach would also be church-going Christians.

1. Dont talk religion or politics.
2. If you bring drink, share it with the other passengers.

Sounds like the perfect set of starting rules for an Internet community as well -in my opinion.. :)
