Will Tyms see the field?

Yes

Have you read this thread + Danny Amendola threads?
I have read this one but have ignored the other Amendola threads.

why would anyone think Tyms will be a better option than Thomkins was?
Thomkins last year proved he can make NFL catches, and the coaches & brady said he was working hard and improving this preseason. So instead of a second year jump, we see him inactive most of the time and then cut.

Tyms is now on his 4th NFL team, in his 3rd year, was suspended, and he was on the sidelines his entire first year, and last year had only 2 receptions for 12 yards.

How exactly is keeping Tyms over Thompkins the right move? I wouldn't be surprised if this is just another case of the staff outsmarting themselves

Maybe he gives the Patriots another big receiver on the outside. Tyms is 6'3 - 210. Watch this:

I hope he does, how well he knows the offense and can get in sync with Brady is a huge uncertainty but he's the best athlete we have at WR. Better than Dobson, better than LaFell and better than KT was. And his actual play intrigued in preseason. I don't expect to see a lot of him but he gives us athleticism that we're lacking.

BTW he's 6'1" not the reputed 6'3" unless he's grown two inches since the combine. Maybe he has, I don't know, but he was 6'1" at the combine and his pro day.

So clearly he wasn't getting any better, despite what the coaches and Brady said. Thompkins is a limited player who could contribute but really should never have been starting. That wasn't going to change, especially since Thompkins was an overager (8 months older than Tyms). Tyms is also probably a limited player who can contribute, but we'll see.

I think the Patriots wanted Thompkins back, but figured Tyms was a decent trade if they lost Thompkins on waivers. They would have waived someone like Kline to promote Davis if losing Thompkins was a huge deal.

I liked Thompkins just like the other guy but you have to admit he has stone for hands he was also a older prospect. Maybe our Coaching staff thought his development was rather slow. That said Brian Tyms is one of intrigue he hasn't had a fair chance to prove himself and maybe better than regarded. Many Teams have Players that seem to come out of nowhere I feel Tyms is one of those guys. He could fill a need for us as a Big outside Target with Speed one that threaten the Safeties Deep. We hope Aaron Dobson can do this but until he's up to speed Tyms should fit the bill. Tyms outplayed Second year guy Josh Boyce in TC that says something. *Boyce had a year in the system* Also Tyms and Dobson are very similar in make-up both 6'3 and change. P.s. not happy with Brandon LaFell running go routes that's not his strenght I gurantee if Tyms or Dobson run those routes and the ball is thrown correctly they come down with it. LaFell should be running the intermediate stuff. I hope Tyms have a good Practice this week.

Love the way Tyms tracked the Ball in the air that's an art that separates Good WR's from average ones. Dobson have shown that ability too LaFell not so much.

When the WRs and offense have played the way they have over 4 games we have players to cut. Tyms fits a need as a physical X receiver
I could make the same case for the offensive line, yet Devey and Kline are still under contract.

Strictly based on what we saw in preseason, he definitely has the ability to pull jump ball passes over DBs.

Aaron Dobson has similar skills and to some extent so does LaFell. I question why we would add another receiver with similar skills, but a skill that our offense doesn't even utilize.

Aaron Dobson can barely get on the field as it is. I thought making sure we have enough DL/DE depth was more pressing.

Nope. Not unless we sit Amendola which has not been the case all season and I would rather play Dobson over him unless Dobson is hurt which does not appear to be the case.

I don't see how we activate more than 4 WRs unless we sit an extra defender or something.

On O the everyday actives when healthy are (for better or worse)

QB - 2
TE - 3 (you need Hooman for blocking)
RB/FB 4 (White can sit or play depending on Bolden and STs)
OL 8 (backups seem to be Flemming, Devey and Cannon right now)
WR 4 (Dobson/Tyms fight for last spot)

That is 21 which is the max you can have unless you short yourself on D.

His vertical was 39.5" at the combine. Dobson's was 35", KT's was 33". So there is a reason, Tyms is a really good athlete. His Broad Jump was 10'10", both Dobson and KT were 10'1".

Is that a joke Tyms practiced last week?
Yes. And browner did too. They just weren't activated to the 53 until this Monday.

Tyms may not be a better WR the KT we don't know but Brandon LaFell is a better WR then KT and is only one year younger so why keep two WR's that cant get on the game day roster

Patriots website has him at 6'3 204 lbs. He is a large target with 4.4 speed and a really good vertical and broad jump. He is an outside threat and a redzone target in the making. Young kid just needs a chance, because he clearly has the physical tools.
