One thing I guess I didn't noticed and haven't see anyone mention is that the Pats defense allowed ZERO third down conversions in seven attempts on Sunday night (they also stopped the one fourth down attempt too). Considering third down defense has been a huge issue for this team in recent years, I find this huge and maybe one of the most underplayed parts of the game.

It was wonderful -- and a lot of them were stops on runs that weren't too long. Another very pleasing part of the game.

I mentioned it in the post game thread. CIN was also 0-1 on 4th down. It's great to have the defense get off the field and get it back in Brady's hands.

Not to be picky and I'll gladly take the way they played even with the penalties but....

First quarter

3rd and 1 at CIN 34 (9:43) (No Huddle, Shotgun) PENALTY on NE, Illegal Substitution, 5 yards, enforced at CIN 34 - No Play.

Second quarter 3rd and 7 at NE 18
(6:46) (Shotgun) A.Dalton pass incomplete deep middle to A.Green. PENALTY on NE-A.Dennard, Defensive Holding, 5 yards, enforced at NE 18 - No Play.

Third quarter

(5:27) (No Huddle, Shotgun) A.Dalton pass incomplete short left to J.Gresham. PENALTY on NE-P.Chung, Defensive Holding, 5 yards, enforced at CIN 25 - No Play.

3rd down and long has given me a lot of nightmares in recent years. Great to have a D now that can make some good stops.

The Dennard penalty was BS or at least ticky tack.

That was another bogus Bolger call. In my opinion on the same level as the Revis non-INT.

Bengals receivers had a ton of drops. Defense played well, but I think you have to factor in the fact that Cincy left a lot of plays out on the field.

Not sure how many of those drops came on 3rd down, but still.

Normally I'm fine but when they throw on 3rd and long I still have to some times cover my eyes. Not because I'm dreading a catch but rather the inevitable penalty that is plaguing the team this year.

But this is a great stat to hear. Hopefully it can continue throughout the season.

Looked like Chung grabbed and held Gresham. It was within 5 yards, but I assume holding the way Chung did is still not allowed?

The defense was incredible, let's hope we can keep it up for the remainder of the season. It's been a few years since we've had a defense that we can be proud of, and the guys made me really proud Sunday night! Matt and Bill made incredible adjustments, both in-game and during the week.

It was everyone. Not just him. Plus Dalton had some REALLY bad overthrows and i think a few were on 3rd IIRC. Either way the D had been great this year and is the reason we are 3-2

I'm not trying to take credit away from the team but Revis changes everything defensively when used correctly. The sea rises and the ships rise with it. His affect on the over all defense was predictable and foreseen.

#24 has an island.

I'm not trying to take credit away from the D, but I think the noise I was making on 3rd downs over there in Section 203 is the reason. Hell, I even jammed my finger (it's still black and blue) banging on the railing! Good thing I was lubed up and didn't feel a thing.

But ya, the D gets some credit too.:)

This is something i think many have forgotten with the euphoria of the win. We played well, OL played well and that is the best thing that could have happened.

BUT... Bengals had a ton of drops many pivotal (i.e gresham in the end zone) and a fumble off a kickoff going for 7. Did they have some drive sustaining calls? absolutley.

All i am saying is and the players will know, it wasn't a big of a blow out as it looked.

But i am just happy with a good game on defense against an explosive offense and a building block for us on offense.

He grabbed him at the LOS, released him quickly afterwards and then there was minor contact while the ball was already on it's way.

if memory serves right the entire play might have gone for 3-4 yards anyway.. so everything happened very fast in a tight space..

the same way the refs give ineligible lineman down the field a few yards of a buffer the same should be true for those jams / grabs at the LOS..
