As if things couldn't get anymore difficult: Jerome Boger will referee game vs Bengals

Last night was a good demonstration of why officiating is a very legitimate concern.

That was indeed a very poorly officiated game. When I said I was glad I was wrong I meant that I was glad we won the game, since I expected to be blown out.

But when you play like that, you don't even give the officials an opportunity to rob you of a victory.

We've all seen badly officiated games but I have never seen anything like what we saw tonight. What a mess.
ben drieth was worse for one game, buger is incompetent every week

Guy had no control of the game. Constantly confused and let the Bengals literally dictate his calls at least twice. He seemed rather confused about the rules and I wondered at times if he even knew where he was at any given moment.

I really hope that's the last we see of him this year. He has no business being an NFL referee.
Buger seems to have a particular dislike for the pats. Like B Drieth thirty five years ago he shouldn't be allowed to ref a pats game again

The officiating last night was as bad as anything I've seen this season. And that's saying something.

At the game I was swearing up and down at the refs. It was so bad. Bengals were holding etc but never got called for it
..But D overcame it

Even Reiss who is not a polemic journalist saw something going on there

"7. Not sure what the officials saw on Develin's rush for no gain on third-and-1 (11:52 remaining), but that is one of the worst spots I've seen in some time. Develin easily had the first down by a yard. We're all human and make mistakes, but that one is unacceptable at this level. Gronkowski's unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was also ticky-tack."

I've never seen a game as consistently bad as Pats/Ravens with the replacement refs. Last night might have been the closest thing since then.

I was getting a kick out of listening to the reaction of Collinsworth whenever they would show the replay of one of these "penalties". He would literally just laugh. He had no explanation to offer. Nothing to say, just dead air and laughter. That is how ridiculous last night's reffing was.

I wonder if Buger is racist and considers the Patriots a "White" team while the Bengals and Ravens a "black" team" (ridiculous, of course)...either that or he was taking bribes.

That's why Rob Parker HATES the Pats. Whitlock too

Somehow, a gif simply can't capture the disgust this post warrants.

That spot was horrendous ... I was at the game and only saw the replay once but I said then we got screwed.
And the problem with the Gronk penalty is not just that it was ticky tacky but the refs overlooked similar acts by bengals both before and after. You just can't call that stuff on only one team.

I have never been one for "the refs are out to get us" theories, but dayum. Collinsworth did his best to sell his "that's what the Patriots are going to do" explanation, even though it's a tad out of date, and never really was that true.

I remember reading the first time the NFL "emphasized" that TD passes put buttocks in seats and sold product, or however they worded it in 2004, and some wag wrote some crap about how it's a done deal that the Colts would win the SB in 2004-2005, "now that the handles are off the Colts' uniforms..." Not so much.

Even back then, the "muggings" that the Colts complained about were pretty much par for the league. Similarly, I reasoned that I could cope with the game being "interpreted" a given way, and so would the Pats. No big deal. We won the next AFCCG, the Colts weren't in the AFCCG, and we won the SB. After hanging a 40 burger on the Stillers' vaunted D, I figured what's good for the goose was good for the gander.

But this guy Boger is a piece of work, if last night's game is any indication. I don't know what his deal was, but it was bullcrap all night, and it was consistent bullcrap (with a call or two going the other way for show). It's got nothing to do with the Pats' "style of play." It had everything to do, from where I sit, with a bias. This isn't something you say lightly... it's been said about the Pats way too often for me to go down this road lightly.

It was just like, dayum. I looked around online and found someone complaining in 2013 that Boger listened to Brady complain about a call last year. Maybe he was making up for it or something, but this game was the most blatant display I've seen since... well, since the refs gave that SB trophy to Pittsburgh.

You are such an embarrassment to this forum.

The officiating was poor. While it made the process of watching the game sort of annoying. The team as a whole was playing so well that I felt like the Bengals needed all the help they could get. Strange.

I can't stand Steratore and his speech announcing the flag, it adds 1 hour in the game length

Maybe, but his crew is really good. He's one of the few I trust to get it right more often than not.

I thought this was one of the worst officiating games of the year. The calls made could have really impacted the game if we didn't dominate. There are 3 that come to mind (not mentioning the other stupid defensive holding calls).

Revis int -Revis for defensive holding. He played that perfectly. It didn't hurt us because we stopped them, but if they convert this is a different game.

Gronk - 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty after his big reception. This was ridiculous, we were in Bengals territory with momentum and boom we get a penalty for being happy.

Easley - 15 yard penalty for a blind side hit. The play was going, you play to the end and Easley made a clean hit on Gio. This basically kept the drive alive for the Bengals who went on and scored

I forget what game he worked last week but I watched it and it was nearly as bad as this one.

Yah, we were saying that NFW would The Booger overturn the ruling on the field despite the WR juggling the ball below his groin as he went out of bounds. He did not disappoint us with his self-satisfied smirk, "After further review, the ruling on the field stands". The only worse officiating I ever saw was Big Ben's 1st SB where with a QB rating of something like fifteen the Squealers beat the Seahawks because of really bad call after call, but not as many as against the Pats last night.

I believe that was Borger.

Im not one to complain about every little officiating injustice, its not an easy job and calls are missed, but last night was a mess. That crew needs to be under some form of review.

They will, but then all the demerits will be wiped out for the playoffs/super bowl.

Would you rather blakeman's approach?
