Browner and Tyms activated to the 53 man roster

It would be nice to know if Tyms made it straight up, or only because Thompkins got claimed.
That makes no sense, they clearly didn't want Thompkins and clearly wanted Tyms.

I wanted both, but hey its NE.

If they truly wanted him they wouldn't have cut him. Too much risk in cutting a player you like especially for a player that has shown some good stuff. They gambled and they lost.

The Patriots took a calculated gamble and now Thompkins is a Raider. I wish him success, but I'll mention this again as far too many fans are overlooking it:

Kenbrell is not a "young receiver with upside" as many here think he is. He is the same age as Antonio Brown, and is older than Dez Bryant and Gronk. At age 26, the NFL is no longer about upside, it's about production. If the Pats think Brian Tyms can provide more production today than Thompkins can, but still wanted to keep KT around, this was the way to do so. It didn't work, I wish it had but I will lose zero sleep over it. He'll likely get a chance with Oakland so it's good for him.

I think there were suggestions that if Thompkins passed waivers then Tyms would have been cut but the raiders claim obviously put paid to that move.

Regarding Siliga, he won't be eligible to return until Nov 23rd (Lions) at the earliest.

cant wait to see browner on the field and it will be a nice story if Tyms can get on the game day roster and make some plays for the pats

Maybe Tyms and Browner spent their four weeks off practicing against each other, lol. Seems like a convenient pairing of four week suspensions: one CB, one WR.

I dont think they took a gamble, if they wanted KT they would not waive him, it was very possible someone would take him, he has decent numbers for a rookie free agent even losing a lot of games.

I think BB wanted him to be claimed, a polite way to cut a kind of important player in the middle of that press storm.

Welcome Tyms!

Tom Curran from CSNE isn't the GM of NE, it is obvious they didn't have love for Thompkins, and regardless of that Tyms would be activated regardless because he has earned the right to play on the field for us.

I really would like to see Amendola benched for a game and give Tyms a chance. I mean, how many catches does Amendola have so far? With Tyms, we get a bit more speed and height. Can't be worst than Amendola.

I could see a formation with:
Gronk, Wright, LaFell, Tyms, Edelman.

I read stats this morning and cringed so be warned:

Amendola 10 targets
Dobson 3 targets

In 5 games..........3x the targets of our best wide receiver. I don't know if it is Josh being a ****head or what but that sent shivers and chills down my spine. They both basically have the same numbers, that scares me.

I think it's hard to evaluate this receiving corps at this point in the season, i think we will have a better read on them in a month or so. I liked Thompkins but he was at the back end of that unit and I like the height, speed, and downfield ability that Tyms adds to this unit. Brady is really going to have some size to work with, they can use mix in Dobson, Tyms, LaFell, and Wright with Gronk and Edelman or Amendola when they choose to use him. So Brady will have receivers who list at 6'6, 6'4, 6'3, 6'2 to go with the smaller slot guys. This is something most here have screamed about for a long time and hopefully the added size will pay off for them.

My personal interpretation of all this is that BB has a very extended view of the roster, in which the bottom tier of players is essentially in flux with the practice squad and players available off the street. This allows BB to operate with much more than a 53 man roster, or even the 63 man roster+PS.

My guess is that BB doesn't see that much talent difference right now between WRs like Thompkins, Tyms and Boyce, or between DTs like Vellano, Kelcey Quarles and Casey Walker. So he toggles the roster from game to game to meet short term needs and game-specific plans, and he's gambling that he can either re-sign a player who is cut, or find a comparable replacement from the PS or off the street. If Thompkins had passed waivers he would likely have been re-signed, but BB was willing to gamble on losing him because he didn't view Thompkins as irreplaceable, and he had Tyms coming off suspension and Boyce on the PS.

Guys at the bottom of the roster either work their way up into a tier where they have a more "protected" status - Nate Ebner, Chris Jones and Sealver Siliga are good examples of players who have done this - or they spend their limited tenure shuttling between the team (often as game day inactives, or getting limited snaps) and the PS (if eligible).

This is all an interpretation, but it seems to fit the way the Pats manage their roster, and some of the moves which otherwise are fairly cryptic.

Honestly I expect them to cut Tyms and sign him to the practice squad and promote Jake Bequette before Sunday. We need some depth at DE.

If Bequette plays as he did in the final preseason game, he would be a welcome addition. I know I am being ambitious here.

Totally different players, Amendola is a slot receiver, essentially he is a player they use on 3rd downs who runs a short route as a check down option, and he backs up Edelman. Tyms would be an outside receiver, I know Edelman has been healthy lately but I do not know if I would go into a game without a player capable of replacing him and Amendola is the best option for that.

And that's why I am glad they decided to keep Tyms around with one Big catch he would easily surpass Amendola's numbers.

the legend bequette. how was he a third round pick? classic BB bust!:D

I didn't like him when we drafted him, but I have seen the improvement and now I think he could actually produce a few sacks if given the opportunity. If we were to lose another pass rusher, I wonder between Darius Flemming and Bequette, who would be called up first?
