Give credit to the Bengals for a great design or blame Mayo for getting in the way, but that's not on Ryan.

Agreed. We basically have to hope that Dobson makes the second year leap and becomes that receiver. If not, we're looking at defenses flooding the field between the numbers again. I'm as happy about the win as anyone, but there are still issues that need to be addressed. Hopefully we can catch a break this year...

Well put. Teams have three years of tape on how to contain this type of offense.*We need Dobson to take over the WR2 job.

* Julian gets open downfield more than Wes did atleast.

Also as shmessy pointed out, hopefully this D can keep us in those type of games better. We probably win the 2010 Jets game and SB46 with this D.

......and of course The Globe Guy was bored:

Ben Volin ✔ @BenVolin
I'm impressed if any non-Pats or Bengals fans stuck with this game last night. The second quarter was brutally slow

Ben Volin hasn't shown anything in his brief tenure as the Globe's On Football columnist to demonstrate he can carry Greg Bedard's or Will McDonough's jock straps. Unless this tweet is a criticism of the referees stopping play every ten seconds with bad calls, he's wrong. That was a great half of football.

Congratulations guys, very well done dominating the Bengals. I love you Pats. Let's open the circus and show everyone real NE football.

Sure you can.. You complain a tremendous amount since you are one of the many Chicken Littles on this board..The game was already over by the 4th Qtr and the Pats didn't want to be accused of running up the score. So they weren't quite as aggressive as they could have been. I blame McDaniels for this.

I'm sure the Pats are not worried about being accused of running up the score. Especially in a statement game.

gotta admit, when Collins leveled that punt returner after he made the fair catch signal i cheered a little.

sometimes you need to just lay some wood on someone.

Same here.

I don't know if he didn't see the hand go up, or if he was just releasing some pent up anger.

Yeah, the next 2 are divisional games within a 10 day period, and both will be challenges in my opinion.

The Bills will be pumped up, especially at home--then we have the Jets with their backs against the wall on a shortened week.

And the jets will be 1-5 entering that game and Vick will be their starting QB. At this point there are no easy wins for them, they are going to have to play at a high level every week to win. This going to be a really fun season to watch as it unfolds, especially if they can build off of that win last night. Buffalo is the team to worry about in the East and they are up next, the patriots really need that game.

FTR, the Lions, to the surprise of nobody, cut their kicker today.

Ya hard to put that one solely on Ryan. It will go down as him giving it up but it was kind of a bad situation. Off the bench after not seeing any snaps against a top 5 WR and then you get picked by your LB which helps Green get that extra step which is all he needs.

I question why they just didn't put Dennard on Green and Ryan on Sanu. Gotta think Ryan has some history with covering Sanu. As they've probably went against each other a few times at practice at Rutgers.

But even then I think the only person that has a chance on that play is Revis.

Did anybody catch Troy Brown's comment on the post-game show that supposedly the Bengals wanted heated benches...In a 50 degree game???? Seriously are they that soft???

0 playoff wins under Marvin Lewis would suggest that yes, yes they are.

Umm.. Yeah.. Except it wasn't really a TD as Green never got both feet in bounds while he had control of the ball. If you look at the replay, Green's left foot never touches in bounds. And neither does Green's right knee. It should have been called back..

It was one of those plays where if it was ruled incomplete it would have stand too.

Revis was a major bright spot. Last night was what we were expecting the night of the free agency frenzy.
I basically got what I wanted in the defensive identity really shining. Revis was in 2010 form last night. He got robbed an INT, he was targetted 6 times for only 3 completions and 60 something yards, but a big chunk of those yards were on the play he got the strip fumble, so they were worthless.

Revis Island is back.

He looked so much more engaged last night with coaching putting him in his position to succeed.

He was shut down, lights out for prime time.

Reading between the lines:

"Cincinnati is a tough team to match up against," Belichick said. "We talked about it at the beginning of the week about how to best do it, especially with their no-huddle and their ability to create big plays with all those receivers. Obviously [Jermaine] Gresham and [Giovani] Bernard and [Mohamed] Sanu and right on down the line. Again, just in the end we felt like the game plan of the matchup with . . . I mean it was all matched up so just the combination of putting the guys on the matchups that we felt we would be most competitive on -- that’s really what it came down to.

"It was a multiple decision...

seems to indicate that BB wants Dennard (maybe also Browner, moving forward) on the other side if they're going to go press man a lot, and he's not going to risk that with Logan Ryan.

Great showing by the fans. Brady chants and signs. Just everything.

Kraft rolled out the red carpet.

Brady was not going to settle for 3 or a punt on the first drive. Intensity that I haven't seen for some time.

The defense was intense as well and seemed to feed off the offense.

McDaniels kept running the ball even when some runs went no place. The same formation changed to a pass fools the defense and buys time.

Overall it was a B + game.
