Can they please make the switch to Dobson over LaFell or at least make the snaps a tad more closer? LaFell was in 77 of the 84, Dobson 11.

LaFell 1 Rec- 20 yards
Dobson 1 Rec- 16 yards

I feel like Dobson would have hauled in that TD that LaFell dropped and would have caught that ball that LaFell just gave up on or at the very least gave more effort on that play.

You're 1 for 2. Lafell should be excoriated for giving up on his route on the long pass. The "dropped" TD however, was an excellent play by the CB chopping his hands at the moment of impact.

Having a serviceable OL makes a world of difference. It opens everything up.

WTF, that's what I said to you last week and you kept insisting that it didn't matter because we have no weapons.

?????

Go back and re-read.

It's too bad the Lions kicker didn't choke the game away yesterday or else the Pats could of had sole possession of the AFC East, these next 2 games are big for divisional placement.

The Buffalo kicker.

Loved the intensity & fire they showed last night.

The defensive secondary were FINALLY used correctly and they held the Bengals to 0% on 3rd & 4th down. A good night for Collins too, Wilfork collapsing the line forcing the RBs to bounce on a number of occasions.

Lots of room for improvement still on both sides of the ball but last night was a huge step in the right direction and it was good to watch.

Implementing browner and tyms into the game plan will make this team even better....and don't forget about the annual bill belichick trade for our 4th round pick.

Rant time on WFAN.....

Kind of late to the thread to offer much new but I will post some thoughts : P

#1 Lafell out Dobson in - Dobson has been inactive a lot and limited in snaps. However he looks faster & quicker than Lafell and likely knows the system better. His 1 catch showed what he can do tonight. I think they are just protecting him right now. Once he is cleared to be full time I see Lafell's snaps diminished. Lafell has been only okay and I see no reason to think he will improve beyond being just okay. You need more than okay from a starting WR. I am expecting this change soon and if not I will be very disappointed.

#2 Ebner was missed. I felt the STs coveraged suffered a bit at times. Ebner has worked his way into a solid role player on D and a special teams ace. That return by Pac Man was something I don't think happens if Ebner is in there. I do not find it a coincidence they had some STs breakdowns with him not in there.

#3 Injuries. Good win but it cost us a little. Revis got a ding but seems fine. McCourty/Easley make me nervous though. McCourty seemed to have a rib injury and Easley a shoulder injury but I didn't see either get hurt on the field and rolled up or anything. So I am hopeful they are not long term. Also Hightower/Chandler Jones are dinged it seems. Hope we can get healthy again soon.

#4 Chung has been good. Yeah, I am surprised too. IDK if it can keep up all season but Chung has been perhaps our 3rd best DB this year and that is not a slight at Ryan/Arrington. He looks like a legit starter. Got to give him credit.

#5 Defense is fresh. They are hurt a bit but only played 55 snaps this game and a few of those were not legit snaps (end of half and a few others). They have been able to do that a few times this season and I think it can pay dividends later on.

#6 Defense was hurt but they played a hurt O. The Bengals had Green but a few key guys on their were inactive too. So I think it was a wash mostly.

#7 Final score was fair. The Patriots left plays on the board. The Bengals left more. They were the old Bungles more than not tonight. I think if this game was called fairly and mistakes eliminated this is what the final score would have looked like. So I am okay with it.

Overall a good win.

Last night was a very satisfying win for me after avoiding all media and this board for a few days. It felt a little like the San Diego win in 2007 right after Spygate broke. Remember, "We're on to the Chargers" in that presser? Anyway, here are my meager observations (in no particular order):

a) The O-Line has found the right combination, or so it seems. This is the most cohesive and effective O-Line we've seen so far this season. The performance came against a very good D-Line, one with seven sacks in the first three games. I think Brady was sacked once and hit once. Really? How many times did we see Brady standing flat-footed at times in the pocket? I counted at least six. It wasn't perfect, but comparitively speaking, it might as well have been. Kudos to that group.

2) Revis is still Revis. He has probably been singled out more than any player not named Tom Brady so far this season. He delivered. He showed that when allowed to just do what he does, he is still the best in the game. AJ Green seems a bit salty, stating that there was safety help and he was open on a lot of plays, but whatever. In fact, it is pretty obvious to me, and I said it in the game thread, that Cincy's game plan was to go at Revis early and often. He made them pay. I'm upset that he got robbed of his second pick as a Pat. I'm also slightly concerned about the hammy because I think it's the same one that bothered him a few years ago. Hamstrings can linger. Kudos to Revis for showing he can still get it done, despite the rumblings.

3) Brady. Well, he's Brady . . . STILL. I don't feel I need to say any more. Congrats on 50,000. Gronk being on the receiving end was only right. Kudos to the G.O.A.T.

4) The crowd. I said multiple times that that is the loudest I think I've heard them, and I'm not exaggerating. I don't doubt that there may be a handful of times where they were just as loud or louder, but last night was impressive. They cheered like they were tired of hearing the noise every bit as much as the players played like they were tired of hearing the noise.

5) Ridley ran with purpose. Vereen reminded me of Woodhead. Wright, once he gets this offense down, will make this offense special again. He's not the dynamic player that AHern was, but he's not leaps and bounds behind AHern. He looks to have better hands too. Oh, the possibilities.

I could actually make a longer list, but I'll stop here. I'll mention ST was amazing, particularly Bolden. Josh called a good game, but the O-Line made it happen. The guy from Carolina's practice sqad was good last night. The team overall was very good. Hopefully they'll build from here.

So CIN was 0-7 on 3rd down and 0-1 on 4th. Love seeing that.

I really hope Revis can go forward at 100% and the hamstring isn't a problem. And also that McCourty is able to get healthy quickly.

That punt return was facilitated by a block in the back. Refs did not call it, like they did not call anything for the Patriots. Complete BS missing that block in the back call.

The Lions kicker DID choke. It was the Buffalo kicker that did NOT. (Unless he mangled his words) 102 Pat was decrying the fact that a kicker did NOT choke. Had he done that, in his words, "Pats could of had sole possession of the AFC East".

I think one of the biggest takeaways that I had on the defensive side of the ball is that Wilfork looks like he's beginning to trust the Achilles more and more. He was holding up very well against double teams and was consistently swallowing up those running lanes. Outside of that, we now see what can happen when the corners are allowed to play press. Hopefully McCourty gets well soon and Ryan is moved the safety spot opposite of him when Browner is ready to go.

This +1.

Notice the 1st Cincy TD over Dennard was on a classic LOS +10 yard zone coverage.

It's obvious that the zone must go. With Browner coming in, the point is all the more obvious.

Given the personnel, this team should only be playing off man or zone in certain situations (such as playing with a big lead). Other than that, let them bang at the LOS.

Alex Henery was the kicker for the Eagles last year. He was terrible for them. Just terrible. And he was terrible for the Lions yesterday.

I know which post you were responding to. Do you honestly think that poster would be referring to a potentially missed 58 yard FG as a choke? It's possible, but I think another answer is much more likely.

Seemed much more likely that he meant to post something along the lines of "If only the Lions kicker didn't choke" combined with "It's too bad the Lions kicker choked the game away yesterday" and got the two jumbled.

Yeah I agree I know Lafell has made progress but 11 snaps for a Second year player who you hope make the jump is puzzling.

So eventually our offense is going to morph into a lesser form of the 2010-2012 versions:

Option 1 Gronk (Gronk)
Option 2 Edelman (Welker)
Option 3 Wright (Prisoner)

This is great, but I hope BB remembers what stopped these offenses in the playoffs, a lack of a legit outside WR threat.

2010-2011 Branch and 2012 Lloyd were the 4th and sometimes 5th options in the passing game. Why can't Dobson be our WR2/option 4? He's certainly a better decoy than Lafell at least.

I'm optimistic about the new OL combo and the return of the 2 TE offense, I just want us not to fall into the same problem that our previous offenses had in playoff time. Lafell won't be respected by defenses just as old Branch/Lloyd weren't.
