They don't have a clear need at WR. They have one on the O-line. Clearly you aren't watching the games.

They have pretty clear cut needs at both. And yes, I'm aware of what the team has spent at the position, so you can save that retort. That only makes the situation there that much worse.

Sorry, Kontra, but they don't have a need at WR, contrary to your claims. Their primary need is on the O-line. You give Brady time, he'll find the open receivers without having to force it in.. By time, I'm talking about more than 3 seconds.. the Standard is 5.. That is how much time an average O-lineman is supposed to be able to hold his block.

Whatever you want to call the play happens at about 14:00 minutes into the video.

I know it looks good, but it never works and I have never seen it go further than like 5 yards. We did it w/ Vereen not too long ago. Maybe if Brady is more mobile.

That's a Double Fake Hand-off into a Screen.. And you're right. It doesn't work. But it has nothing to do with Brady's mobility and everything to do with the O-line holding it's blocks and the runners selling the hand-off. Which neither did so the D-line just kept coming..

Anyone who thinks the Patriots don't currently have an issue at WR is clueless. And, by clueless, I mean they don't know a damned thing about football. We're left to hope that Amendola heals, and Dobson and Thompkins get past whatever it is that's keeping them in active, and that one of them can achieve WR1-level play.

With an OL, Gronk and Edelman from Brady is dangerous enough that it would suffice and open up more for other emerging players like LaFell. Weren't we statistically the best offense in the NFL last year during the weeks Gronk had returned? We're stronger now in our passing attack on paper than we were last year if the offensive line held up. It could always use more super-stars, but if our defense was playing like we expected (and still expect), and we had a 5 second pocket, we would soon be annihilating people as Gronk returns to form.

The reigning AFC Champions have never beaten New England with him on the field.

Our unproductive WR's are a mere after thought with this protection. Our 2007 offense was loaded and it didn't matter in the Superbowl with our line falling apart and Brady getting swarmed and beat down from every direction. A 2 second pocket eliminates the advantages to having a Tom Brady. Not everyone's best game comes 2 seconds after the snap. Some of these receivers, who are otherwise doing nothing, could be getting open with cuts down field and making big plays.

Offensive line is ruining everything.

It is somewhat sad that you need to continue to state the obvious.

We NEED production from this group: Amendola, Dobson, Thompkins, (Boyce),(Tyms)

We can hope for continued improvement from the TE position. They are likely to end up more productive than last year (a very low bar). We can hope that the RB's produce more in the passing game than last year (a low bar). We can hope for a top 10 running game, as last year (a higher bar). We can expect continued production from Edelman and LaFell. Barring injuries, all this seems reasonable to me. These areas are NOT the problem, or even one of the two problems. We know the obvious problem at OG. Even this clear issue can be somewhat resolved as the season progresses.

However, we CANNOT succeed with Edelman and LaFell as our only wide receivers. These guys are not Moss and Welker. We need production from others.

Deus - Your the one who is clueless about football. You prove that on a continual basis..

And Kontra, the fact that DEUS is agreeing with you on this subject should be cause for you to question it as well ;)

The Oline does need to play better, but the receiving group makes even less sense after the KT release. McDaniels is absolutely terrible at roster evaluation and personnel talent. And Belichick is getting too old to make every decision

No, he's not.

McDaniels is hell bent on forcing the shotgun spread offense. This isn't like old Pats offenses where they adjust week to week based on the opponent. Even with only 3 WR's activated for a game McDaniels is going to stubbornly use the predictable shotgun formations over and over and over.

McD seems to be showing that he is a one-trick pony and when that's the guy that's leading the offense . . . you get what we've gotten this season. Certainly not saying there isn't plenty of blame to go around or that McD is the main problem. It's just frustrating to see a team with no offensive identity. It sucks to see TB12 be so frustrated and, way more importantly perhaps, getting up after every throw. It sucks that even some of the most faithful supporters are beginning to show real concern. This has not looked like the old Pats where you always would say, "They'll figure it out."

With all that said, I still believe they can figure it out. I still believe Gronkowski should get better as the season progresses. We saw positive gains with LaFell last week, albeit against some back ups later in the game. We saw a better offensive line last week against a decent D-Line. I know Brady still got hit, but that observation is comparatively speaking. I guess I am choosing to look at the glass half full, but this team has been too good for too long to just roll over. There is a winning pedigree here no matter the turnover in players from year-to-year. That must prevail at some point.

No, he's not.
McDaniels IS terrible at player evaluation outside of WR. That's the only spot he's been successful at and even then it was only with Thomas and Decker. He's missed on such much more..

McDaniels has run this offense into a ditch with bad personnel since 2011 and bad predictable schemes. Par for the course as he was a disaster in St Louis and Denver too.

Now the recent article about Brady being mad. Don't even try to blame the new oline coach, McDaniels is the offensive coordinator and he's been bad for a long time. I'm surprised he destroyed the team in only 2 seasons, thought Brady would mask him longer.
