It was already a matter of time: Brady trade talk has begun

I've predicted that this is Brady's last year as the starting QB of the Patriots, but even with that, he's not going to get traded this year.

Unless Brady pulls an Aaron Hernandez, he will never be cut. His next three years become fully guaranteed if he finishes the season the roster. He will be only traded at that point if they are going to get rid of him even if they got a conditional 7th rounder for him.

FYPFY.

It's definitely understandable to see Brady allegedly frustraded. It's also not beyond reason to see him being traded, given his salary hit, his age, his clear decline and his fire for another SB and our appearent lackluster team (There is still time for us to improve). Yet, i don't see it happening. I can't see it happening. But it's understandable

If this report is true, who the hell can blame him? To date, the OL has been about the worst in the league and the WR corps is just about the worst in the league as well. The Patriots have the least yards per play at 4.61 in the the league. Yes, lower than the Jaguars and the Raiders. They had to do more than LaFell at the receiver position in the offseason and simply did not do it.

Guaranteed salaries don't hurt tradability because they're low.

@Rob0729 isn't arguing that he'll never be traded, merely that he'll never be cut. [The Pats are still on the hook for the $24M in guarantees if they cut him, but not if they trade him.]

Anyone have the Mortensen article? This is the only quote in that entire article. “uncomfortable”. He could have had a bad burrito and that reporter could have speculated on the rest. Sheesh.

"Several players, coaches and former players have rendered an unsettling picture that all does not look well with Tom Brady and the Patriots and there's a reason for it," Mortensen said during Sunday NFL Countdown. "Even though Bill Belichick chuckled when asked Monday night about Brady's status, others close to the team now believe that when the Patriots used that second-round pick (in 2014) on Jimmy Garropolo that they were, in fact, choosing Brady's successor, perhaps sooner than later.

"Sources say Brady is uncomfortable with the personnel and coaching changes, the consequences have led to tensions between Brady and the coaching staff, with Brady's input into gameplans, personnel packages, formations, pre-snap adjustments being significantly diminished.

"Has the staff lost faith in Brady? Or is it simply the residue of shaky personnel decisions, including the undeniable fact that since 2002, the Patriots have used 11 draft picks on wide receivers and only two -- Deion Branch and Julian Edelman -- have made any impact."

All this media talk is getting me fired up and filled with anger. I hope Brady, the team, and Belichick is watching this **** and get fired up as well.

I predicted the Bengals win 34-10 in the predict thread but now I'm going to change it to the Pats win. All this media hate has fired up my Patriot spirit. Brady and this team needs to make a statement with this game. Let's lay the smackdown.

Gotcha. That's a non issue, though, he'd have trade value. Check Miguel's tweets, a trade after 6/1/15 while giving us hefty dead money saves cap money in 2015 & 2016.

Sources say.... = crap

Everybody needs to make money, including the press, fabricating news

This season is a lost cause my friend

Purely from a salary perspective, it's not impossible to keep Brady as Garappolo's backup through the end of his contract in 2017. The salaries are high for a back up, but not impossibly high and they are offset by Garappolo's low rookie numbers.

The Pats have set themselves up pretty nicely, I think. They can simply start whichever one is better. And listen to trade offers is somebody wants to knock their socks off.

I know very well the issues we have now and it's fine to be concerned but this is a little much.

Belichick has destroyed this team and I have no clue why. Releade of t Kelly makes no sense and made the team worse, trading mankins made rhe team worse, going into kc w 3 receives made the team worse...this team is full of jags and (entire offensive line) and "decent" players who lack consistent big play impact (mayo, mccourty, edelman, chandler jones), and guys who wouldn't be playing on other teams (hoomanawanui, ninkovich, chung). of The two impact players one is being used in a confounding way (revis) and the other is certainly not 100%. couple all this with a 37 year old shell shocked qb who cant throw past 10 yards and you have an at best mediocre club.
im really sick of the coach's act and head scratching decisions...they haven't won it all in 10 years amd they've gotten blown out of the playoffs the last two seasons...fix it bill or get him gone krafty...

I mean I think the story is crap but as I sit here watching Jay Friggin Cutler throw to Jeffrey and Marshall I can understand Brady being unbelievably pissed at a team that is double digit millions under the cap and not improving his line/receivers.

The team is in a rebuilding phase. It it truly amazing to win 10 games every year and tie or the division EVERY year, no matter whether on top or rebuilding. The team continues to go to the Championship Games every year.

And where are we? 2-2 as many SB winners have been. We are likely to win our division and again be in the playoffs. And we whine, and we whine. Pass the cheese.

This is NOT a boom or bust team. Choose another team if that's what you want (or whine).

The team has failed at developing receivers. That's been true as long as Belichick has been here. Even Edelman could have been signed by anyone before we re-signed him to a minimal contract. To add insult to injury, Tate will be playing against us tonight.
===============================
THE CHOICES BEING MADE
No fan likes the idea of building for the future. But Belichick has does this in many, many years.

DEFENSE
Belichick has chosen to spend lots of resources on the defense. Some folks don't like his choices. But Wilfork was brought back (many here said "no"). We've recently added Jones, Hightower, Collins, Revis, Dennard, Browner and Easley. We expect to pay McCourty. Revis will be re-signed or the money will be used on another top corner. I expect yet another defensive front seven addition next year in the first 2 picks. Is that a terrible strategy by Belichick? We have criticized Belichick since 2007 for not using resources on the defense. Well, now he has been listening. I agree that he has found S2's hard to find. IMHO, the novel strategy of using one S2 in the base and another in the sub package is a fine idea, and a good use of resources.

IMHO, other than luck, the biggest reason for us not doing even more in the past few years is the health of players come playoff time, especially Gronkowski. This is difficult to deal with. But our defense has also needed to better. So, that is the focus.

OFFENSE - LINE
Belichick is at least a year late in drafting offensive linemen. However, the real problem this year is the crazy OL transition. Why would anyone have Cannon play OT all preseason and then start him at OG? That makes no sense. The misjudgment on Devey is exactly that. The team certainly had lots of opportunity to see him in the off-season and preseason. And yes, we should have added a veteran OG to be on the roster instead of Kline or Devey. So, here we are. We're 2-2. The OL played better last week. This week we have Wendell healthy instead of Fleming. This OL is in transition and is likely to be OK as the season progresses. Belichick is likely to add another 3 prospects next year. Connolly and Wendell will be backups or will be replaced by other vets. Is this a bad plan?

OFFENSE - SKILL POSITIONS
Here there are the REAL question marks. We have question marks at every position (QB, WR, RB and TE). We do need to see the future of Brady, Gronkowski, Dobson, Amendola and Wright. We will need to acquire RB's (not all that expensive). Gaapollo, Edelman, LaFell and White are likely to be back in 2015. Hopefully Gronk will recover. The time has come to rebuild the skill positions. Belichick has chosen NOT to do what everyone wanted and spend the money in the last two years on expensive wide receivers.

BOTTOM LINE
If Brady, Gronk, Dobson, Amendola and Wright can produce, we have a team that can compete for the SB this year. But, as we all know, the offense that has played the past four games is not likely to go far in the playoffs, even with the likely improvement in the OL.

More unnamed sources that continue the feeding frenzy.. this morning I pick up the ProJo and Donaldson and Reynolds are piling on(both remember the dinosaurs) it is easier for all of these scribes to perpetuate rumors and pile on, rather than to look at things intelligently.

It was the first by line on Drudge.. do not understand the fascination in all of this, almost as if they all want Brady/Pats to fail to get a gotcha moment on Belichick..

Perhaps it is the audience or maybe it further proves Marshall McLuhan's adage, "The medium has become the message"....

i can only hope that BB does what is best for the team going forward

cant get sentimental about brady just because his position is QB

i trust BB to do the right thing, either way

We should thank our lucky stars that it looks like we will be blessed with BB as our leader for many more years

Brady being frustrated could be true . But this stuff of him not having any input in game plans and pre snap stuff is full of BS. This is a very easy story to write behind sources and it is sensational news. I don't believe all these details from mort one bit. Like a witch hunt .
