Matt Chatham with a nice takedown of the "Pats are too cheap and won't get WEAPONZ" crowd

As if woman are somehow less worthy or inferior to men.

I think it's to convey a lack of toughness, and while there are exceptions most of the women I've known aren't tough at all, emotionally or physically.

Sustaining a certain level of excellence for so long is certainly an accomplishment. A Superbowl trophy crowns the best team of the season, but that doesn't negate the fact that the Patriots have been the class of the NFL since basically 2001. When you consider the number of conference rivals we have had that were the primary battle of AFC dominance, it is rather astounding. Where are the mighty Steelers now? Where are the Colts? Where are the Ravens? Today it's Denver. The constant has been New England.

In that regard I agree with AZ, but at a certain point you have to say, "Where the #%$# is the Lombardi?"...

Good points. The lack of a Lombardi since '04 is frustrating but that might be described as a "first class problem." As someone pointed out on the board this week, the Pats' philosophy is to get into the playoffs and anything can happen; and as someone else pointed out, the Pats could be 5-0 in Super Bowls or they could be 0-5. Stuff happens in post-season.

On "sustained success": I've been thinking about the whole comparing of the Pats' past decade to the Dungy-Manning Colts.

The basic argument is "we laughed at the Colts when they boasted of their regular season success all those years, but since the Pats stopped winning Super Bowls they have become those Colts."

The big difference is that the Pats the past decade have had a lot more playoff success than those Colts. Under Dungy and Caldwell, the Colts were one and done five out of nine years. That is really what made them the subject of so much mockery. (The fact that two of the years they weren't one-and-done they went on to lose to the Patriots in the playoffs makes it even more fun ...) The Patriots are one-and-done twice in eight playoff appearances since their last Super Bowl win (09 and 10; the former was kind of expected, the latter a Colts-esque choke). Throw in the three title years and it's 2-for-11. They've also been in three straight AFCCGs since their last one-and-done.

Sure, I wish there were more Lombardis. But I think in a week when it's been open season on the Patriots and their entire way of doing business, it's useful to acknowledge that they have had the sort of success that pretty much any franchise would admire over a long period of time.

Not sure about physically, but as far as emotionally goes, seems like you may have known the wrong ones. Anyway, the whole practice of using those types of terms sort of paints an entire group with the same brush. I try to avoid doing that, but once in a while I slip.

Those who may think that women are not physically tough might want to think about a process called childbirth.

Or just pick a fight with Ronda Rousey.

I bet the Jets grab him

Why would they? Their WRs are already better than ours.

And Chatham's article is wrong for multiple reasons.

Here's why men are tougher than women. Men understand what real pain is, and go out of their way to avoid it whenever possible.

Take childbirth for a woman, versus a man getting kicked in the nuts. Both can be excruciating, but after a few months, a woman will consider having another child. You will NEVER hear a man consider getting kicked in the nuts again.

Anyway, just my 2-cent's worth. YMMV, of course, but that's how I see it.

the reason why is, a woman sees that beautiful baby at the end of labor...the man sees himself taking a gigantic technicolor yawn, barking at the porcelain in agony..

Agreed. Never understood those types of intended putdowns, as if attaching a feminine characteristic to a football player is an insult. We've all seen them, "vaginal bleeding", " wearing a skirt", "she" instead of "he", etc. Hell, I've done it myself and always regret it afterwards. As if woman are somehow less worthy or inferior to men.

It was just a minor put-down and certainly not intended to cause any great offense. Sorry if it was interpreted it as such, it was not intended to be that. I will chose my words more carefully in the future.

Once again, the reaction to a nothing comment has been blown way out of proportion by what I've seen described here as the S.J.W.

Unless we want this to turn into a debate on freedom of speech and censorship, maybe we need to get back to the topic at hand.

No apology is warranted. As I wrote, I've done it myself and don't like it when I do. I just have had too much experience in my life with strong, tough and resilient women who were/are great role models for males and females aike. To use terms which suggest that they're all weak is nonsense.

Sure let's do that. We'll start with posters whose opinions generally suck. Smile for the camera.

Yeah, and how many women these days get drugged up during birth or just get C-sections?

I don't have any complaints in regards to our personnel moves at WR/TE. I think the dynasty years showed you don't have to surround Tom with studs for him to succeed, and I beleive the current talent at the skill positions are as good if not better than they were those years.

Where the Patriots have failed is at building an interior OL to keep defenders off Brady. In the glory years we never had a stud OL and our run blocking was never anything special, but we always seemed to be, at the very least, above average in pass protection. You would think now more than ever with his career winding down there would be more emphasis on protecting Brady but instead that area has been almost completely neglected for years. It's incredibly frustrating when the playoff losses have highlighted that is Brady's kryptonite altogether and pretty much the common theme in those games.

Please go instruct the JEST on what they do wrong, Major Rock.
